Are there any instances of superheroes in Marvel or DC overestimating their opponent's durability and accidentally killing him? You have to figure it's happened at least once.

I can't think of any Marvel or DC off the top of my head, but Invincible did just that.
Barry Allen breaking Professor Zoom's neck.

Spider-Man accidentally killing a guy in a mech suit when the power was deactivated. He then became a master assassin.

Obligatory
Context: Ock and Spidey mind-swap. Ock underestimates Spidey's strength and breaks Scorpion's face. Realizes Peter had been holding back the whole time.

To add further to this, the reason Ock needed to mindswap was because of the damage he had taken because of Spider-man. Even with holding his strength back, Peter didn't know how many times he concussed Otto.

Retarded.
>All those fights where Spider-Man was apparantly desperately fighting for his life.
>Turns out he could kill him in one punch if he wanted.
Not sure if it counts, but still...

>Turns out he could kill him in one punch if he wanted.
>if he wanted.
But that's the point, dum dum.
Infinite Crisis

Superman always holds back. It's better to underestimate and get hurt than overestimate and kill someone.

Oh god this thing
I hate Injustice.

Well, to be fair, they retconned it.

When the blood starts gushing 3 feet in the air and the guy stops hitting back it's usually a good clue that he's out and that you don't need to superpunch him 5 more times.
If this comic didn't need to have rivers of blood flying everywhere all the time maybe I could buy him being surprised.
Also doesn't that guy kill all the time anyway?

Especially dumb considering Scorpion's whole schtick is that he's physically stronger than Spidey.
Not Marvel or DC but:

There was a bodybuilder that died a few days ago. He tried to do a backflip and landed on his neck.

That's always been the case. Spider-Man's capable of comfortably lifting around ten tons, and he's moved much more under stress. Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven, Mysterio, Shocker, basically ANY of his main villains would be instantly dead if he actually hit them with his full strength. Hell, he doesn't even need to hit them; all he needs is to do is touch them, stick to them, and he can pull them apart. The fact that he can move fast enough to dodge bullets and has combat precog means Spider-Man, for all that he's usually classed as street level, is easily one of the most horrifically dangerous people in Marvel.
