Maybe, just as with Star prime, she's rather irresponsible with the wand and dimension-hopping. The twist is that every time she dimension-hops, something from the other side ends up slipping through. Bit by bit, Echo Creek starts to look less like earth, and more like a dimensional crossroads, to the point that lifeforms from all over the multiverse are now a common nuissance. In addition, any time she uses her wand on another being, it could temporarily give them some inconceivable condition, only to dissipate as suddenly as it came; she could also summon (cutesy) eldritch abominations in a similar manner to narwhals, warnicorns, etc.

I'm better at worldbuilding rather than character development, so take this with a grain of salt.

Season 2 had that really irritating slog of episodes at the beginning where Ludo was off doing his own thing, so he wasn't around to come in and add conflict to plots like "Star can't ride a bike" or "Janna and Star break out of detention".

Even then that's including episodes like School Spirit and Royal Pain as "filler" when it could easily be argued that they're relevant because they establish and expand on aspects of the characters involved.

The main plots of this show are character-driven drama, so establishing characterization is very important. The show also does a great job of setting up its plot points well in advance of when they actually become the focus of the story.
Star Vs has 72 segments and only a handful of them could be missed without really missing anything.

The whole episode is just the two of them acting like dicks to both each other and everyone else but Star. They don't "become friends" by the end, they just stop fighting and work together so they don't ruin Friendship Thursday for Star. Marco gets along much better with even Tom.

I'll probably always think most fondly of season 1. The show started off on the worst foot, but the theme was so catchy that I watched a few more eps on the strength of that alone (also it looked nice visually). And then the "lol random" stuff dropped off significantly and the show introduced a pretty interesting universe and history along with Marco and Star discovering them. And then the the ramp up of the ending was super satisfying.

So the "most improved" aspect of 1 makes it more memorable in my mind. 2 was mostly fine but some stuff didn't hit that well with me. I think part of it was how so much was happening without anyone really reacting? Star was business as usual, no one in the kingdom cared to investigate. It felt like a lot was happening in a vacuum. There's still lots of good stuff, but the meteoric rise of season 1 eclipses it in my mind.

I think 2 was better than 1, but despite that, the introduction of a plot and more serious elements in the latter half of 1 had kind of an effect that can never be replicated again. Now that everyone expects plot and lore and mildly grimdark stuff and shocking twists, etc., and the show's upfront about it too and just does more of it, that "oh shit what the fuck's happening" feeling as it slowly hits that something's building up is gone.

I overall like what they led up to better, when it felt like they began to put more thought into plot progression and character development even outside of the biggest plot episodes, but the first 13 episodes on their own really do almost work as a nice self-contained thing. A story about Star's world moving from simple to more complicated as her friendship with Marco grows, which I guess is the entire series in a way but more compressed.

It might just be a result of Proto-Star never getting developed into a full series that it seems so limited, but compared to how Daron then came up with the basic premise of Star Vs. just based on "make the magic real" (inheriting royal magic wand, being from another dimension and traveling via scissors, foreign exchange student on Earth) and a bunch of the characters (Marco, his and Star's parents, Ludo, Toffee, etc.), even the basic details seem to have more going on. Of course, it could just be the other way around: maybe if Original Star got to be a series Daron would have come up with a really interesting use of Star, Sol, the conflicts she'd face, etc. The worldbuilding another dimension offers does interest me more though.

Well, I've heard anyone currently working at Disney TV Animation can pitch a show, so it seems like working on Wander Over Yonder was what got her in the door in the first place. But she was just a storyboard revisionist then, not even a boarder, and her other jobs were similar (those last two things I'm pretty sure were just like independent films).

More than a lot of other people I think she just got lucky, like a right place/right time deal. She hadn't been in the industry long enough or in high enough positions to make it seem like she worked her ass off for it, I don't think it was nepotism either because of her previous jobs being so small by comparison to showrunner/executive producer. More than anything I think she just got extremely lucky, and that kind of pitch about magical shit was the kind of thing Disney was already looking for at the time-- what she pitched was close enough to that, and she was willing to go along with the suggestion, so it got made.

(there was how she went to Cal Arts, but that's more for how she got IN the industry in the first place, not how she got a show)

Season 1 started off okay, but didnt really get interesting until toffee showed up, and even then, was still hit and miss. Also, Besides a couple episodes, I personally couldn't stand the animation throughout. Early episodes were too bouncy, and the later episodes were too stiff.

Season 2 was an improvement in every conceivable way, and I will never be convinced anyone who thinks otherwise is being sincere.

Seconding "A Habit Hard to Break," it's good stuff even though the pacing is glacial.

I don't know if it's quite what you're looking for but my other favorite fanfic is "Dragon Kick Your Butt Across The Multiverse." The premise is pretty campy, and it more or less starts out that way, but it's well written regardless, and then it starts taking itself more seriously and shit hits the fan fast and hard.
Characterization is mostly very solid which in my opinion is the most important thing. And the author both updates often and puts out a lot of content; the fic isn't even 3 months old and it already has over 30 chapters and is fast approaching 200k words.
Kind of like the show, give it a chance and look past some of the sillier stuff and it's more than worth your time.

That's the point of the archetype. An actual kid with an overactive imagination isn't "chuuni," a teenager who ought to be more mature and grounded acting the same way is.
Proto-Star was a sixth grader so she wasn't quite that old, but still old enough that it would ostracize her from her classmates. And the bigger problem with basing your show on the premise of a delusional MC is that it's obvious from the start that the plot is basically going to be them doing dumb shit for most of the series until they eventually have to "grow up," put their fantasies aside and face reality.
It's a slight deviation from a standard coming-of-age story but with much less flexibility in how the narrative can play out, because your main character is locked into a bizarre and specific archetype that greatly limits their options for interactions and growth.

I think the show got out of hand when the camera suddenly became an actual character and "Sky's" love interest on top of it. Out of nowhere too, Star just starts talking to it and suddenly everyone acknowledges it as if it's a character. I mean, it completely fucked the format and presentation of the show. So now the camera is a sentient being? Is it through the eyes of a person? Is it a stand-in for the viewer? It's never even explained. They never even give it a name.

There's actually an explanation for this. The blacked-out circle is Heinous and is supposed to be Moon's older sister, removed from the family tree. Presumably she was banished or disinherited or something.

Sky was his original design for Moon's mother, before Battle for Mewni was even announced. When Moon's canon mother was revealed, his fans said he shouldn't get rid of his character even though the artist also says he wants his works to still fit into what we know of canon. And so in this universe, Sky, Moon's biological mother, died giving birth to Moon, and the queen we see in the episode was her sister and Moon's foster mother, who raised Moon and who she would only know as her mother.

Convoluted but there it is. I suspect his designs for Eclipsa's mother and daughter will get similarly messed with when her backstory is revealed.
