ITT: Favorite obligatory episodes cartoons do I'm found

Venture Bros' Noir parody episode is one of my favorite episodes of television

The "gotcha!" secondary love interest plot.
Right when you think it'll be canon, some other person swoops in only to drag out the inevitable and make the drama last more seasons.

I'd say it's an "obligatory episode" since that shit usually gets one particular episode to really rub it in.

its hard to put a name to but i always love it when the hero disappears for some reason and the villain starts to win and you get to watch his friends try and deal with it without the hero

I guess I'm blind, so I didn't see the 'favorite' stuck in the OP. I actually really hate this kind of episode. Fuck me.

Alternatively, I like the episodes where characters can't use their magic/powers/whatever, and have to resolve the problem just as themselves.

An episode dedicated to whacky racing is generally the best episode a given cartoon can offer.

I'm always fond of that one Rugrats episode that was a parody of the Maltese Falcon: Radio Daze
