You can either dick around on 4Chan, or you can practice drawing. But when you're lying in bed, I know which one you'll feel better about having done.
Ahem... let's try that again.
Progress on Chel drawing. Came up with an alternate pose (right) that I like just a bit better. Will flesh it out tomorrow.
Trying to do short animations with very loose clean up inspired by that Mall 84 short. Hopefully it'll get me wanting to animate again.
This is the short I'm referencing:

I finished my latest drawing today. I invested a ton of hours drawing with colored pencils and markers and I know it's for nothing, but still, feels great finishing every piece I work with. And after finishing it, I feel sad and even bad for not being faster and better at art, and making something actually good out of it. Despite feeling happy because I like what I achieved as a product. Even if it's not rteally good.
It's weird.

Only on days of the week ending with a 'y'.
I need some feedback please, my dudes.
I'm really happy with the big guy and his level of detail, but the armored guy doesn't feel like he's part of the same picture. He's supposed to be floating behind what will be a team group shot. I have no problem laying on the gribbly detail for organic surfaces but tech is one of my weak points.
Anyone got any idea how I can draw the two characters together to feel more cohesive?
I tried adding scratches and ships to the armor but it doesn't seem to help.
>>94527101
I didn't know Liefeld posted on /co/
The dude that is about to take a poop looks cool at first glance, but quickly falls apart.
The further leg looks like it is attached to something 1m away from the hip
Both feet are just blobs and their direction is off
The hands feel stale and makes me think you only know how to draw hands in certain petitions and went lazy.
Right dude's legs/feet feels off and flat, but the mayor issue is that the balance is off. It looks like he is about to fall over.
I tl;dr and first thought it was just random drawings on the same canvas. There is NOTHING that indicates that they are existing in the same space.
But it's fixable. First issue is that there is no sense of surface (because you've been lazy with the feet), make a 2p perspective floor grid in your software so you can understand the plane you are placing them on, and adjust the feet accordingly.
Next could be shading since it creates ground and can connect the shapes. If the shadow of pooping dude hits falling dude, you'll understand that they are next to each other.
Iron-Man is a bit more difficult, but you could add a shadow on the ground to indicate indicating that he's in the air.
And brighten the lines up a bit.
Darker lines in the front of the image, lighter in the back. Words to live by.
And to make it feel more techy you could always look at how other people have drawn Iron-Man, and what cars look like, engines, tech-stuff. You get it.
You do have some really nice line work, tho.

Stressed? No. I only really get stress when I try so I'm ironically more productive when I'm stressed. It also helps I get night terrors when I'm stressed so it's harder to waste time trying to sleep away my existence.

kind of a cool body design. the segments in it's body look nice as well. although maybe you should taper off the head like how earthworm jim is. the perfectly round head doesn't lend to the worm aspect of it

Try making the left hand a little bigger to give the illusion that it is closer.
>>94529788
I'll try
>>94529505
Okay, so I tried to do a shitty draw-over to figure out for myself what the problem is with your arm there. Seems I forgot how shoulders work.
An easy way to help you construct limbs (and general shapes) with volume is to do a "coil". Use construction lines to wrap a coil around the limb and this will help with visualizing the depth and volume.
When you do foreshortening, that's going to help you a lot because right now, the issue with the right arm is that you are putting lines on there you shouldn't be seeing from that angle. The inner elbow is too defined. The lines on the wrist go too far into the hand.
Also, the construction of your right hand is kinda messed up. Hands are a bitch to draw so it's best to work larger and construct the shape from primitives.
What I tried to do but is a bitch to see because I can't do clean linework to save my life is to stretch out the right hand like the left hand, which will result in several fingers disappearing behind the lower arm in perspective.

At the same time though, I'm ass at writing, cartooning and framing. I should be practicimg them as well. Im somewhat unsure of how to go about this. Has anyone had experience finding or working with writers? Should i just find an existing story to adapt? Maybe I should just keep grinding.

>>94532209
I would say to just practice story boarding. Take one of your favorite books and try to adapt a small bit that has little/no dialogue, but plenty of action.
>>94532328
Damn that's actually a good idea.
Storyboarding would be ideal, that way I can still grind rendering normally without spending a ton of time on each comic page itself.
I'm not sure about the book thing, but it does seem like a good exercise.

>>94533553
My issue is mainly how to handle a multipoint perspective where the points are outside of the boundary of the picture.
I'm sure none of that terminology was right.
>>94543059
Terminology's mostly correct, you're trying to do two-point or three-point perspective while the vanishing points are not on the page.
Well, the way I used to have to do this when I was doing technical drawing in college was by using another sheet of paper to "expand" the sheet I was working on, and then draw a grid from those. When you're finished with the drawing (or grid) you throw away the pages you only used for vanishing points.
If you're working digitally it's a lot easier. In photoshop there's tricks to make perspective grids, and then you can just move the vanishing points to be wherever you want them to be.
The final way is just to eyeball it, and imagine an off-paper vanishing point, but I reckon you wouldn't be here asking about perspective if this worked out for you.
If this is giving you problems it's probably best to stick to two-point perspective and leave three-point perspective until you manage that. And for the love of god stay even further away from four-point perspective. There's a reason it's hardly ever brought up, if at all.

A cute jacket would help her look a bit more girly. Gonna sketch up some designs for that for sure.

Okay, I'll try.
You lack knowledge of anatomy, proportion, perspective, and construction. You're trying, which is good, but you'll need to exercise more.
What you should be doing is life drawing exercises. you should be doing gestural drawings. Read your Vilppu. Use one of the several sites for drawing figures to start out.
Instead of trying to draw this vaguely human form you're doing, stay away from trying to represent the pectorals and the abdominals for now, especially if you aren't trying to copy an image. You should be working on getting your large shapes right, constructing the form from primitives.
next, refine your lines. Do your line drawing exercises, hold your pencil in different ways, experiment and learn. It will come with time and mileage. Consider drawing with ballpoint pen per Scott Robertson. Check out Scott Robertson's guides on drawing if you consider doing so.
Right now I think you would do best reading Andrew Loomis' "figure drawing for all it's worth" (and "fun with a pencil" if you haven't yet), the Vilppu drawing manual, and my most favorite of books, "figure drawing: design and invention" by Michael Hampton.

>>94576684
>I draw people from life a lot but never really managed to get a lot out of it
It will pay off if you keep doing it. Not sure if drawing people in public right now is good for you, maybe a still life would be better practice. Take your time observing.
CTRL+Paint had a good exercise that helped me a lot. grab an object from your room that's box-shaped and then draw it a dozen times from different perspectives. It helped me, it might help you too. I've also got a plaster skull lying about which I often use for practice, and will have to do until I can afford a full skeleton.

I'm uh, not much for redlining or readable sketches, but maybe this will help.
The pieces separately look alright, but you're having a big issue moving them and having them look like they're attached to one form. Work on your shoulders and hips-- draw megaman panties on your characters before you draw legs, and look up traps and draw some backs and shoulders.
Youre trying to push your poses without quite understanding line of action, but this is one of the smaller issues.
Honestly, pick up Force by Michael D Mattesi, I can't personally yell enough about how good that book is.

I've been trying to meet my quota of "One drawing per day".

Very well-defined chest. Aside from the one with the sword, and the right leg in the golf club pose, the dynamic poses don't come across as sloppy or amateurish

you should up that to several gesture drawings a day as a general rule.

That's because I blocked it in with a hard-round brush. much easier to get the idea down and ensure there are no gaps that way. Now I'm working the detail into it.
