What are some good examples of Cerebus Syndrome? Where an originally funny comic slowly gets more serious during its run?
I've seen a ton of comics that were ruined by Cerebus Syndrome, but I've been curious about an example that's worked.

Bellybuttons, Les Nombrils in original French, started gag a page, and later, maybe not so gracefully, developed to increase the drama.
Funky Winkerbean. It was a gag newspaper strip for a while until the creator gave his characters life problems ie: domestic abuse, teen pregnancy, cancer, etc. The most dramatic arc was Lisa's Story where a character and her family had to deal with breast cancer
