Yes, but it still feels...cheap. Like its funny when mr jellybean tried to rape morty, or when bueno excellente rapes bad super villians, but when you have a villian like the joker who in many stories including killing joke you were supposed to feel bad for and realize hes still vunerable, making him a rapist erases all of that and makes him just another characterless monster. Hell, since im on a roll with my joker rant, heres an unpopular opinion. Joker shouldnt treat harley like shit. Be like the 1966 comic harley relationship where he genuingly loves her because he has someone crazy enough to relate too. Fuck, i mean im sick of seeing characters flanderized to the point that they miss the entire point of their original characters. I mean its not like batman doesnt have enough already good dark villians. Even the joker face saga couldve been played for gore laughs as he prances around town scaring everyone shitless that he has no face yet acts almost oblivious to that fact. Its so goddman easy to write for this character yet everyone seems to fuck it all up. Goddon would be proud because batman doesnt even need to rape the joker, modern writers have been doing it for years.

Picture Batman, half-naked, running down an abandoned city street at night. Tears are running down his face as he gasps and sobs. He hears an odd noise, quiet at first, barely there but soon it becomes louder. Squeaking. Constant squeaking from multiple sources. Then they come around the corner.

Clowns. A dozen of them, their shoes making loud squeaking and honking noises, their painted on smiles only slightly larger than the real smiles they have on their faces. The Batman is equipment-less and is quickly caught and surrounded by these painted up attackers.

Before he can cry out, a balloon giraffe is shoved down his throat as several clowns take out their own balloons and begin putting them onto their throbbing erections. He's bent over one of the clowns while two others come at her from the front and behind. They quickly penetrate him and begin honking their horns in rhythm with their thrusts while the idle clowns perform somersaults and pratfalls as they wait their turns with him.

The honking begins to speed up as the clowns near orgasm and increase the rate of their thrusting. Shortly after, they all pull out of him and ejaculate into their balloons. They quickly remove them, blow them up and make them into different animals as the other clowns move in to take their turns.

Millar gets a lot of shit but that is a pretty reasonable statement. Of course rape is seen as so reprehensible that once a character commits it you can't really show them as a fun villain any more. So it restricts what you can do with a villain if you make them rape. No one will accept lighthearted stories about Joker if he's a rapist (I recognize that doesn't make a lot of sense given the other awful stuff he gets away with but that's the way it is).

I can think of a few things worse than rape. Rape combines sex with a lack of consent/control. Torture, on the other hand, can combine lack of consent/control with a lot worse than forced sex if you're particularly depraved/creative.

It'd take a while to explain, but I kind of get the sense that the whole "rape is a special kind of evil" thing to be related to the romanticized view of sexual intercourse and old school notions of purity.

Besides, if rape was worse than murder, then we may as well put a rape victim out of their misery, if death is preferable to having to be a victim.
