You have to remember SM3 came out in 2007 (just one year before Iron Man and TDK change the game) and Sony tried pretty fucking hard to bring back Raimi and Tobey Maguire back for a SM4, even at ridiculous wages. By 2010, they were running out of time and decided to reboot then. But the Sony emails showed that Pascal still wished they retained Raimi.
