Jasper's sense of selfworth depends on being the strongest and best at fighting. Earth gems are generally considered worthless by Homeworld, which is why every other Earth Quartz besides Jasper has been stuck at the human zoo doing jack shit and getting nagged by Holly for their entire lives. Jasper knows that she failed her purpose just like they did and that the only thing that kept her from being thrown away like them is how she was born physically perfect, this causes her to constantly overcompensate in order to reach those perfect standards that she has set for herself. Unfortunately for her, she chooses to prove her superiority by putting others down and distancing herself from everyone emotionally, and this caused her to become a friendless bitch who is very emotionally stunted

She appears like an arrogant psycho with a superiority complex on the outside because she actively hides her fear and vulnerabilities, but as Earthlings shows, she is actually very insecure and lonely, Garnet even foreshadows this revelation about her character with the "I think you're just mad cause you're single" line

She originally did not like fusion because she saw it as an unhonorable way to get stronger, but after Garnet beat her she was willing to do anything to win, because to Jasper, failing proves her worthlessness. She is constantly beat by fusions because it represents how she is wrong in believing that you have to be strong by yourself and that receiving help is a sign of weakness. She eventually becomes a fusion whore because Lapis fusion raping her for so long caused her to feel weaker without the strength that they shared together, and the way she got sad about Lapis and the dog she raped leaving her shows that she genuinely wanted to understand fusion/relationships, but instead failed and realized how unlikable and alone she is, which just made her feel more worthless and is why she felt she deserved to get corrupted instead of letting Steven help her

Their fake superiority complexes and self worth issues are the same. I don't think her arc was written that well (I don't think most of SU is written well), but I love Jasper's character, and her issues with fusion and relationships are something I really want to see resolved by the end of the show. She is a sore loser but I don't think I'd call her a hypocrite, since she admits when she realizes she is wrong and is just as critical of herself as she is with everyone else. I wouldn't call her spoiled either since she is a sore loser mainly because she is self loathing rather than snobby and bratty, the arrogance she displays is more of a facade than anything. She is admired on homeworld for her accomplishments during the war but she doesn't bask in that admiration because she doesn't feel the same way about herself as homeworld does and doesn't think she deserves it. Honestly, I don't see Pearl being satisfied with that fusion. All she'd get out of fusing with Jasper is the spin attack. Pearl already has super strength, durability, and fighting prowess, she doesn't need more. Hell, she held her own against sugalite, a fusion of a quartz and garnet. Pearl has shown that she's enjoyed fusions that give her different powers, like fusing with garnet and rose. She doesn't seem to enjoy fusing with anyone who doesn't have much to offer like amethyst. But, it is a very small sample, so who knows!

This is proven by pearl and garnet fusing even though pearl had different intentions for fusing. Garnet wanted to destroy the tower, pearl just wanted to be fused with Garnet. Not in sync at all.

So, why didn't they form alexandrite? Because the writers are idiots who either forgot alexandrite existed or they knew alexandrite would OHKO Jasper and they needed that "arc" to last at least 2 episodes.

Pearl and Garnet both wanted to fuse, they both liked each other, and they both enjoyed being Sardonyx. Before Garnet found out about Pearl's deception, they got along really well.

If two gems haven't fused in a while and aren't in sync then the dance takes a little while longer, the more they do it and the better the relationship between the component gems, the easier it is to fuse. At that point of Jailbreak the relationships between Pearl and Amethyst was still too strained, finding common ground between all 3 of them to form Alexandrite would take too long.

Also why would they need to fuse to beat Jasper at that point? She'd already been beaten by Garnet solo, she was badly hurt from being thrown into the engine. Between the three of them and Lion they could beat her again with teamwork instead of fusion.
