"Adult cartoons", why is it that so called adult cartoons are in every way more juvenile than shows put out for kids, even the best ones put out for very young kids? There are plenty of kids shows actual effort seems to go into in terms of making enjoyable characters, worthwhile stories, and humor that has subtlety, meanwhile the genre of "adult cartoons" seems to be plagued with edgy crap only a non adult would consider "adult", HAHA SEX, HAHA GORE, HAHA CHRISTIANITY BASHING man my mom would probably FLIP if she saw this, or they're literally nothing but a setup for corny punchline after punchline by some Jewish Hollywood writers, OR it's totally random pothead bullshit
>>
>>94320362
Adult cartoons are also plagued by shit animation.
>>
>>94320571
Because the audience doesn't care about animation, it would never be a critique. The audience is just there for the "humor"

Why..? I really want to know why people put in little effort into the art style/animation.
I mean people make the excuse for lazy art/animation for kids stuff.

I suppose that leaves only "family" entertainment then?
>>
>>94321142
Do you really think the audience that finds the humor in Family Guy to be top shelf in the humor world gives a crap about quality animation?

In fact, I would wager it's quite the opposite. The more like childrens drawings it looks the more comforting it is to them because it's less to take in and think about. They would probably consider anything more than that to be pretentious and nerdy.
>>
OP is a fag
>>
I swear to God OP you'd better just be taking potshots at family guy....

Found the "adult cartoon" fan. Good news is you can get a job at Fox or Adult Swim writing cutting edge entertainment for sophisticated grown up minds!
>>
>it's another christfag wailing as his imaginary friend gradually loses relevance in the modern world episode
>>
>>94320362
It's okay buddy, adult cartoons are not aimed for you anyway.
>>
Pushing boundaries in a kids' format means tackling adult themes and creatively writing around limitations imposed by censors.

Pushing boundaries in adult animation where there's no real limitation on what you can show usually just means pushing the bounds of bad taste.
>>
This is what happens when you ban Steven Universe generals /co/
>>
>>94320362
Because animation isn't considered a serious medium, therefore cartoons aimed specifically for adults try to be purely comedy and severely over compensate for being a cartoon with super edgy humour because just telling a good story is not seen as something adult cartoons should do.

Hell, even Ralph Bakshi had plenty of the shit you complained about and he's one of the only people who genuinely believed that animation could be a serious storytelling medium.

Basically, cartoons are seen as kid shit, this will never change.

Morel Orel isn't a cartoon tho, it's a puppet show.

They have to work in a vacuum with a limited tool set and are being challenged as such. Not always but usually works that are challenged and limited (example: OT Star Wars) grow from their need to overcome the limitations while something completely left free to itself with no limitations (Prequel Star Wars) suffers greatly because there is nothing challenged to force the writers/directors to rise above their talents and skill sets.

You know genres exist for a reason. I go to a bookstore I have options. I watch tv "not movies movies are dying." I have options.

Video games I have options

I try to watch an animated show... my options are either A:SITCOM FAMILY CARTOON or B:Adult animated SITCOM.

Animation should push boundaries more man. We don't know h ow May years CN NICK AND NOT TOON DISNEY HAVE LEFT?

They should get really weird with it

OP you're a piece of shit. I couldn't stomach your retarded run-on sentence beyond giving it a simple skim. But I'll buy into the premise of the thread because I recently watched pic related, and realized it's the only non-comedy Western adult animation I've seen in a very long time. And it was honestly really good, albeit criminally short.

it does count as Western animation, r-right?

I guess Samurai Jack kinda counts? But that started as kids' stuff, so I dunno. Didn't feel like it 100%.
>>
>>94321621
It's /co/ material regardless.
>>
>>94321721
You are just taking it to the other extreme and you know it. Yes some can work fine without limitations but more often than not people have serious blind spots in their artistic vision and horrible and/or poor ideas would rise when there were better options. Hell most good creators that work freely admit they both limit themselves on purpose and try to challenge themselves, somewhere there does have to be challenges for the better product to happen. It is so very rare something good is made without a group gather challenging ideas and swapping input with each other.

According to who exactly? Your sorry ass?

You think you are so above it all cuz you watch cartoons that adhere to your worldview thanks to censorship. I bet you're one of those train wreck people that thinks killing is never ever ever justified no matter what. And that you get birthing about "mean spirited" characters or episodes.

Get a fucking life you contemptible snob.

That's not what you're selling though is it? Self imposed limits are fine. And any person whose worked on any entertainment product will tell you that it's ALWAYS a group effort.

Having the fcc or whatever corporate studio producer ram their restrictions down your throat is a different matter. And you know it.
>>
Adult cartoons = cheap shit to fill airtime
>>
>>94322075
>Having the fcc or whatever corporate studio producer ram their restrictions down your throat is a different matter.
is it? According to Spielberg, Kershner and others a lot of what work in the OT trilogy was due to Fox directly meddling with George Lucas script and what he wanted vs what they wanted. Fox had an aimed goal of it all making sense and less preaching to the audience. Most question how true this shit was till 20 years later when we got to see that, yes if left running wild Lucas would rather have a strange dogma lecture about space politics that hardly make any sense even in narrative. We always remember when it turns out bad but never catch when they actually make a product better.
>>
>>94321992
I think killing is never justified? I only watch cartoons that adhere to my worldview? LOL! The more talk, the more you unknowingly reveal about yourself. You're one of those people who equate maturity and adulthood with being able to do all the things your parents told you not to do when you were a child, so like a grown-up juvenile delinquent you chase after those things. Booze. Sex. No consequences. And then, of course, you're attracted to shows with a similarly juvenile, two-dimensional view of the world.

So here I come along, the big bad anon who thinks he's above it all, suggesting that maybe there's a wealth of children's shows--even comedic ones--that are written with far more depth than most adult cartoon shows out there, and 'OH NOES, THIS CONTEMPTIBLE SNOB I TRYING TO CENSOR ME'. The fact that you immediately to that conclusion amuses me as much it as speaks volumes about you, you petulant child. Keeping on fight against this perceived "censorship" of yours, but you will never be able to truly get revenge on mommy and daddy for not letting you cuss when you were little.
>>
>>94321894
>>94322033
Found the angry atheist. Did you parent force to go to church when you were little? I feel for you, but that's no reason to cling to narrow-minded preconceptions about Christainity. Speaking as a former atheist, I urge to you please open your mind a little, anon: http://www.reasonablefaith.org/
>>
>>94322033
Buddhist, but nice try, hatemonger.
>>
>>94322142
You what I'll admit it. I'm immature. Same as you I like the occasional outrageous act of violence in media and the character studies of the kinds of people who got into that lifestyles. I also like the odd harmless but entertaining children's show even when you can see they wanted to push a little harder and the networks

Don't hate my parents. Have a decent job.Cuss a little. Ok maybe more than a little.

And YET I'M not the kind of dead weight that trashes on anything they don't understand. You do you man but don't think your projections and autistic screeching make your . Posts the GOSPEL TRUTH. About the state of animation.

Enjoy your misery cuz it's like the song goes

I like somethin you don't and you're tellin me it's shot.

But it's a waste of time you can't change our opinions.

Did the big bad adult cartoon make fun of your stupid imaginary buddy?

>>94322179
Nice try Christfag but we're not falling for that one you cunt.

Protip-Children's cartoons are lame because the network restrict's them from being as funny as if they where allowed free reigns

Hence Why Brickleberry is the pinnacle of adult animation unlike some wussy cartoon that clearly tries to be too subtle but ends up being wishy-washy.

Well I have some good news and some bad news and some worst news. The good news is that there are adult cartoons that do not adhere to what you have posted. The bad news is that most of them are foreign. And the worst news is that some of them are from Japan.

sorry about that double post. Didn't mean that.
>>
>>94320362
Because retarded writers think "adult" means "sex, drugs, and violence", while it really should mean "sophisticated". As in "you must be this old to really appreciate all the finer details of story and execution".
>>
>>94320362
I've noticed that it is the more grounded stuff that tends to get cancelled. Characters that act very human and relatable, even if the premise is wacky, never seems to last.
>God the Devil and Bob is seen as being offensive despite being way more respectful to religion than Family Guy. Gets cancelled
>Mission Hill got fucked
>King of Hill was taken out for the Cleveland Show
>If you're not some Seth McFarland show, Simpsons, or manage to catch a break on adult swim you're fucked.
Honestly I'm grateful for King of the Hill.

Here's a secret: most "adult" cartoons are actually aimed at teenagers.
>>
>>94320362
because most most modern 'adults' have been reduced to mental infants by our societies advanced conditioning.

the 'adult cartoons' you're thinking of, along with nearly all mass-media, are just part of the maintenance of that conditioning.

>>94320362
I would say most adult cartoons is like what you described (lacking any real subtlety and always trying to be as offensive as possible) is because they are trying to hard to justify age rating.
Being in a culture that is still determined to think animation can only be for kids because reasons
>>
>>94335895
Weren't there a lot of parents that took their kids to see Sausage Party or whatever it was called?
>>
>>94336126
Yeah but it probably because a lot of them just assumed it was kids/family film with it being animated
>>
>>94335580
It's still seen as manchild and actual child bullshit there save for the occasional Miyazaki film.
