Pretty much when I realized Secret Wars didn't fix it.

After secret wars 2

It was the dying breath of the old marvel and the demonic birth of numarvel
>>
When DC announced a Fantastic Four book, and Marvel announced Two in One Special.

I was holding out hope for F4, but the only book I'm actually excited for on any level now is Waid's Cap and that's it.

And I'm not even a big cap fan.

The last Marvel book I cared about was Moon Knight. Now that's over, there is literally nothing worth reading.

There was no breaking point, I just gradually lost all interest in what they were doing like five or six years ago. Although outside of the cartoons, I never had much interest in Marvel in the first place. I can read anything from the 60s-80s, but after that their stuff just didn't click with me.

I tapped out of DC a few years back and haven't had a single regret. The stories were bland as fuck and I can't even remember the last cross over they did that was good

My pull list from Marvel consists of The Unbelievable Gwenpool, Ultimates^2, and U.S.Avengers, thanks for asking.

Avengers Arena.

>>
>>94310475
I dunno, turn of the decade? I realized that since Dark Reign ended, Marvel hasn't had a status quo that actually felt familiar to me, it's like every time I look at it now, it's a different flavored What If universe.

For example, I'm seriously supposed to believe right now that Hydra conquered the US, replaced its government, and has an entire infrastructure in place and did this all off-screen between issues? Like it's only important to show the superheroes get defeated and then we can just ASSUME that means major changes to the world follow automatically between fights?

One More Day.

The few storytimes I've read on /co/ from new shit over the years is what's keeping me away.
>>
>>94310475
I tapped out of capes in general a few years back. As loathsome as the tokenism shit Marvel is currently doing is, the quality of stories is almost uniformly mediocre across Marvel and DC, and certainly not shelling out money for on the regular.

I occasionally pick up books that have genuinely fantastic creative teams. The recent Vision run is the last Marvel thing I read, and the only DC product I'm touching is Shade.
>>

Waid's Cap will just be a white apology book with some hamfisted social politics. If you want good Cap stories, read Brubaker's run.
>>
I've been dropping and picking it up again for 10 years, but I dropped it in full 5 years ago. Marvel peaked ages ago. I'll still read an issue or two of something that piques my interest, but I'm not actively supporting the company every week like I used to.

Right around Secret Wars. Everything I was reading got cancelled and immediately renewed so I just let that train leave the station. Prez got canned around the same time so I gave up on DC too.

Cutting corporate comics is clean living and I highly recommend it.
>>
>>94314139
>except comic shops out of business

Nothing wrong with that. Lots of small businesses go under every month. Marvel will have to do figure their shit out when the only stores left selling floppies are huge stores in major cities
>>
>>94310475
Just before Clone Conspiracy started. I had financial problems so dropped all comics, but only went back to DC Rebirth as Deadpool, Spider-man, X-Men, etc all seemed to be all over the place story wise for me missing only 3 months of comics. I mostly only read Cosmic books, so with the cancellation of Ultimates I'm down to just GOTG. Thanos didn't grab me and I feel the Rocket and Groot series are stealth minis that will inevitably be collected, probably together. Really wish Marvel hadn't cancelled Nova.
>>
>>94310475
I still read a few Marvel books sadly. It's just kind of a hard habit to kick. But the amount of Marvel in my pull list dropped sharply after the bankruptcy and has only declined since. Mostly it's just characters from my youth who I've stuck with like Venom.

I "TAPPED OUT" during the late '90s.
It wasn't one thing.
I first started reading X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Amazing Spider-Man in 1992.
I started X-Men with the Jim Lee issue where Mr. Sinister comes back from the dead to stalk Cyclops (Scott Summers) and mentions that there's a third Summers brother. I should have known then.
My first issue of Spider-Man was during the Maximum Carnage crossover. It took me a little while before I bought another issue of Spider-Man.
Then came the crap like Onslaught and Heroes Reborn. I stopped reading anything Avengers, Iron-Man, or Cap America at that point.
For a while there I thought Spider-Man would get better and started reading it again. I was wrong. I've taken an oath to never again read Spider-Man. I still don't.
The second half of the '90s was really bad for X-Men fans. After that turned I began only reading Ultimate Marvel comics.
With Ultimatum I gave up and "TAPPED OUT".

...

It was a few years before I came across a 2000 X-Men annual by Morrison laying on a magazine rack while I waited around the mall for a movie.
Since then comics have been worth reading.
You idiots have no idea what you are talking about.

I thought I wanted the absolute cancer writers like Kelly Sue Decornick out so that talent had the space to flourish in, but instead what happened is that it became a whole bag of nothing

We have America Chavez replacing books like Loki, Agent of Asgard.
What's the point any more?

The last thing I bought from Marvel was Siege, not to say I didn't siege, it was great but after that nothing really seemed to interest me.

I was mostly out after OMD and completely after Thanos Imperative ended. I only started reading comics again because Rebirth looked interesting. Marvel looks shittier than ever though.
>>
At the end of AvX with Hickan's Infinity, 2012.

After every title was kiled and replaced with a more retarded version, I lost all reason to pick up any new book. The stories I was following just ended abruptly and were replaced by completely different stories.

Recently some small pockets are starting picking up. Deadpool's comic has been pretty good, and Marvel cosmic may be onto something.

Last comics I read were:

Deadpool
Invincible Iron man
Amazing spider-man

I grew tired of Marvel creators being cocksuckers (Dan Slott, Nick Spencer, etc.) I also hated the fact that they were changing legacy heroes like Thor, Hulk and Iron man into SJW/PC avatars.

So I stopped reading once Civil War II began.

Haven't missed it since.

>Do you remember Knightfall? Emerald Twilight? Superman's mullet?
You mean some of the best eras for the respective characters?
Are honestly saying Knightfall is bad 'cuz Jean Paul is 90s and edgy? That's the whole point of his character.
Esmerald Twilight is a great fall of a hero story and mullet superman had great stories all around, especially with the more street crime stuff.

Basically Soule took a whiplash 180 from Waid's run. Changed Matt into a prosecutor from a defense attorney, alienated Foggy, removed Kirstin and basically turned Matt into a collossal asshole for no reason, only to backpedal with the Purple Man's kids being the cause for all the OOC fuckery. Plus the artist is shit.

Did you actually read anything other than Spiderman?
>>
>>94310475
I refuse to read any slott or bendis related shit, but I have renew your vows and spectacular now thank god

Remember The Superior Foes of Spider-Man. Remember when we thought that Nick Spencer was a great, hot-shot writer that could save Marvel until he went all political on us?

Why have Marvel forsaken us?
>>

I would accept all the terrible writing from Slott if only for his last issue it would all be revealed that it was just Mysterio fucking with everyone.

>spectacular
>thank god
Spectacular is an insult to Spider-Man. An absolute insult. There was actually more respect shown for Spidey by killing him off in the Ultimate universe than what they are currently doing in Spectacular. There has never been a more immature and emasculated version of Peter than the one Zdarzsky is writing.

I read more Marvel than DC.

Marvel is not the most fascinating line-up at the moment, but I can't think of single DC title that really is good. It's sad.

Deathstroke, superman, nightwing, aquaman, detective, flash, and doom patrol are all pretty solid.
>>

For me it was the culmination of a lot of things:
Terrible events.
S Y N E R G Y.
Constant Relaunches.

I pulled the plug around CW2 as it was all those things in one. Now I'm just buying RYV until it ultimately gets cancelled.

Sad stuff man.

What Marvel books are you reading?

They keep saying he is but I have yet to see DP in a romantic or sexual relationship with a dude or someone that's not female.

I dropped the Spider books after One More Day. Looking back, that was probably the start of it all. Hickman was the one thing keeping me going, and the end of Secret Wars seemed like a good jumping off point.

I'm still buying Scarlet Spider out of PAD loyalty but I'm wavering. I'll also buy the upcoming Darkhawk one-shot because I love the character, but that's it.

Sins Past. Joe Quesadilla should've lost his career after greenlitting that shit.
>>
>>94310475

I refuse to buy anything from them until they issue a formal apology for inflicting America "ME GENTE" Chavez on us.
>>
The end of FF and around the third relaunch of Captain Marvel.
>>
>>94326442

That series was GOAT.

Spencer could have been the hero Marvel needed.
>>
Onslaught: I got tired of events.

>Esmerald Twilight is a great fall of a hero story
t. Kylefag
Emerald Twilight was an editorially mandated bullshit event to set up their new poochie. It backtracks Hal's development and then throws him under the bus so they can introduce a HIP, YOUNG GREEN LANTERN WHO LOVES THE JAPANIMATION JUST LIKE *YOU*, YOUNG READER!
