Okay episode. Muscle memory was good. Ending was surprisingly good. I was expecting Summer to be a lot more annoying, but if this is any indication her role will be tolerable. On the Adult Swim stream, a black lesbian interviewed Harmon and one of the female writers.

Harmon's biggest point about having female writers was that it let every writer be more free with pitching ideas, because they could get a hot take from someone in the room who knew about that stuff. If you had only one woman, guys are afraid to pitch because it could offend, and the one woman is afraid to object because she's outnumbered. Even ratio means everyone can relax and just try and make things funny.

But then he also shitted on the female writer by saying that even though her name was credited with writing the episode, all the writers write all the episodes, and it sounds like what stalled production so long was that you had harmon, roiland, and 4 male writers who had to do more work while accommodating the women who weren't funny and couldn't write, and that if there's a season 4, it's not going to do the even ratios thing again.

Both E01 and E02 are half good and half bad right now. On one hand, they both have that kind of circle jerk where they call the characters badasses for being uncaring nihilists which made Season 2 kinda shit. They also lacked what made Season 1 great, which was just being adventures about drunk grandpa Rick and his grandson Morty. They've changed the character dynamics to be more snarky or quippy or whatever for the most part. The references are also as tired as they were since Season 2.

Still, there's enough there when the writers stop sucking themselves off to say that it's watchable. Summer talking to Jerry at the end was a better approach to covering the episode's moral instead of Morty suddenly shoving in his connection to the episode's overarching plot while smashing bandits. Morty's dialogue and interaction with Armthony outside of that scene and Rick's interaction with the rock and bandits as a whole was more fun than Summer just suggesting they piss on the "billy board." With better execution, both of those scenes could've been good as well, so maybe they can turn it around. It's not exactly bad, but it's a far cry from the genuine fun they made with Season 1.

Instead of blaming females maybe consider the show was always dumb? like this was better than stuff like the parasite ep

I'm impressed with this episode.

It showed the actual feelings for how things played out when going through something emotionally depressing as Divorce. For Summer she had to take a walk in her own mother's shoes and really get the feeling of what it's all like first hand and as for Morty, he was able to work out his aggression and anger with the help of his Arm Ghost.

It was really thoughtful and inspiring.

This episode is just as good as everything else they put out. The difference is you didn't have to stew for 2 years in fresh squeezed nostalgia with the old episodes. Literally everybody's complaint boils down to "it's not as good as the retardedly lofty standards my imagination set it up to be," so everyone instead is blaming anything they can (the pacing, the word count, the divorce subject, new women writers, summer's character growth, you fucking name it.).

tl;dr the episode was fine (good even) but people expect it to rival their expectations, which never happens.

Think you've got two main styles of R&M episode:

There's the one that really blows your mind and deals with higher concepts even. And I'm not just talking about Rick Potion #9 where you're just gobsmacked at the end because they started life anew in a new dimension, but like, The Ricks Must Be Crazy with the stacking universes, or even M. Night Shaym-Aliens! with the simulation stuff.

And then you have the episode where they just kinda fuck around and throw crazy shit at you because they can literally make up anything due to the nature of the show and the aliens and different dimensions and Rick's science. A lot of these seem to be the ones where a lot of the catch phrases and marketable ideas - which you could arguably call memes - come from. Stuff like Mr. Meeseeks and Tiny Rick and of course, Get Schwifty.

I would argue the first kind tend to be better, because they're really playing into what made the show popular, these somewhat high concepts that go in a different direction and make you think, even if they did it in a total hand woven, nothing matters, forget it, manner.

Tonight's episode was the second kind, where you had Mad Max world, and you had Morty with a giant possessed muscle arm, and you had Rick with the robot kids, and it ties together a bit, but in the end didn't really pack that punch. I compare it to Get Schwifty where you have goofy things like Headism and Water T and you might have that moment of relevance to the plot at large (Morty talking with Bird Person and seeing that photo of him seemingly as a baby/Summer speaking with Jerry after tasting both mindless thrills and settled married life,) but overall it didn't thrill you or stick in your mind the same way the first kind does.

Doesn't make for a bad episode of course, but this show is so hyped up, it either has to be really funny, or really fucked up to get the thumbs up from the majority now. This one was very much a mixed bag.

I think the Mad Max backdrop really lowered the overall quality of the episode. Unlike the purge episode, they didn't really do anything that interesting with the parody aspect, and there was no need for it outside of giving the audience the gratification of recognizing something popular and a weak connection to teenage rebellion. Lot of small moments made this episode more enjoyable, but doesn't detract from the fact the framing device isn't all that interesting or fun. B-tier episode.

Normally the episodes focus on 1 main plot and maybe 1 secondary plot.
This one changed the atmosphere too much and felt like it's 2 times longer.

The thing that makes other episodes fun is the sense of danger.
This ep lacked that, after the first chase there was no danger.

I've never seen so many emotionally crippled men in one thread Jesus fuck you guys. It's one fucking episode, the first episode was really great, and this one is pretty decent. The "women ruin everything" mem needs to die- you all sound like a bunch of five year olds boys upset that you have to share a toy with a girl. Grow up. Much of the show's audience is female. Suck it up and stop being a bunch of pussies.
There's no solid evidence of a trend of worsening episodes because none of them are out yet. It's also not as if they have a quota: 'a woman must write 25% of an episode now'. They can use as much or as little of the female writer's material as they'd like in the episode. So even if the episode is bad you can't just point your finger at the woman, you have to look at all the writers and realize that they all agreed on it.
Jesus, give your opinion on an episode, but there's no need to pull speculation over the ongoing quality of the show out of your ass.
Also, different people react to divorces differently. "If you have feelings over divorce, you're a pussy." Suck a dick, no one cares that you're emotionally crippled and have issues coming to terms with other people's feelings and experiences. We get it. You're very macho and we're all very impressed.

They need to be careful about everyone becoming gigantic assholes towards everyone else. Used to be Rick wasn't even that humongous of an asshole. Even complimented Morty in the pilot and seemed to value having him around. Now Morty is hitting back about as hard as Rick gives and Summer is doing the same. Not everyone can be an asshole, they need at least one character with a decent moral center to play off of Rick's assholish nature. Used to be Morty but he's gotten pretty murder happy recently.
