I have no real thoughts about this. Jinkx seems like she wanted to voice a gem for awhile, so good for her. As long as the voice is done well, what's the problem? I think more people make a bigger deal complaining about it than the person in question. Drag queens tend to be pretty chill and funny on the whole, which is probably a better way to enjoy life than getting bent out of shape about everything--including who is voicing characters in children's cartoon shows.

In regards to the Smiley/Frowney relationship being confirmed behind the scenes, I see what you're saying. If it was being tacked on at the last minute for brownie points, I absolutely agree with you. When I watched the episode, I thought it was pretty clear that there might have been something more between these characters. You have to consider too that CN flat out won't air reruns of certain episodes in certain countries because of LGBT stuff, and that the notes about Smiley/Frowney were written in the storyboarding process before the episode was actually made. CN might have shot down anything that explicitly stated their relationship, forcing Sugar and her crew to be more subtle.

I love it but you really have to embrace it's ridiculousness. And if you can't then you are probably just going to cringe most of the time.
I mostly just watch it for the really creative costumes and the likeable personalities of some of the queens. And how unpredictable the show can be at times. To me it's basically like one of those shows where the plot or writing really isn't anything great but you watch it because you like the characters and you want to see them do shit. That's how it is for me. I can't think of a season where I didn't like at least one queen.

It gets beyond insuferrable at times, especially when you can just tell how forced the drama is or when they try to get preachy. There's a lot of manipulative editing involved and that kind of takes you out of the show a little. And if you are easily annoyed by exaggerated queer behavior or Tumblr-isms or whatever then you should avoid it. I don't, I'm used to it, and even though I often disagree with the political and social sensibilities of the show and it's fans, I enjoy it.
It really depends on what you get out of it. To me, it's the only reality tv show I enjoy.

Start with Season 3 and if you like it go on from there. The show peaks really hard at Seasons 4 and 5, loses it's footing a little but is still entertaining in Season 6, takes a massive fall in Season 7, and then recovers it in Season 8. Season 9 had a lot of split opinions on it so let's just leave it at that.

I say you should at least give it a shot.
