Not until 2020. With the lifestyle of the average /co/ user, it wouldn't be surprising if you indeed didn't live to see that day.

The lack of updates isn't a problem now but it could bite you in the ass in the future when whatever is the current OS you're using doesn't support them properly anymore. That being said someone is bound to come up with a replacement.
>>
>>94167425
>Firefox
>and only users running the Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) will be able to continue using Flash through the final end-of-life at the end of 2020. In order to preserve user security, once Flash is no longer supported by Adobe security patches, no version of Firefox will load the plugin.

>Chrome
>Chrome will continue phasing out Flash over the next few years, first by asking for your permission to run Flash in more situations, and eventually disabling it by default. We will remove Flash completely from Chrome toward the end of 2020.

They won't support it at all by 2020. You will not be able to load flash videos. If it's not supported by Adobe it's a security risk, so they're just going to remove the plugin altogether.
>>
>>94169276
Sure your average youtube kid wouldn't be able to play your newgrounds games or warch flash video, but as long as the website stays up, it's not like flash is going to vanish. The problem is exactly that though: web hosts might see the drastic decrease in pageviews and drop sites altogether.
So yeah, once 2020 rolls around i'm sure someone would have already made a flash centric browser, possibly with VM/sandbox features for security. It would be a good idea to start archiving flash shit though. Let this be a lesson to not rely on proprietary software as an integral framework of a significant part of internet. Of course, i'm kidding, we'll never learn

Who gives a shit, it's always going to be possible to make flash content using old versions. All this means are that there will be no new versions. Nor should there be, flash is rubbish really. But all your flash cartoons and games are safe forever, the plugin isn't going anywhere even if Macromedia don't offer it for download themselves, it'll be somewhere.

This changes nothing for anyone.
>>

Flash CC (now Animate, because we truly can't have anything anymore) exports their videos in HTML5. I don't know what features they keep from Flash - embedded timelines, actionscript, etc. But at least it's something.

Hopefully there will be some kind of converter that can turn .swf files into HTML5, if that's even possible. But I doubt anyone would go through the trouble, really. No one gives a shit about Newgrounds or Flash videos anymore, not since Youtube and Steam took hold.
>>
>>94170998

>>
>>94182594
Newgrounds in particular really harkens back to a forgotten age of the internet. I remember going on it in 4th or 5th grade, which would have been 1998-2000ish. The internet was really the wild west back then, and people were still figuring out how to use it and what kind of shapes it would take. In one way or another a lot of modern internet culture derives from it, but it's morphed so much.
Thinking about the pre-social web always hits a very particular nostalgia button for me. It was such a different experience. Fuck, I'll have been on 4chan for 13 years before the year is over and even that feels like "modern internet" to me.
>>
>>94167685
>javascriptless internet in a very near future or some shit like that.
I already use noscript. You can block 99% of everything and sites don't look/function any differently. The vast majority of javascript is literally just imbeded adware to track your habits.

It was inevitable, and I think rose-tinted glasses color a lot of the old internet nostalgia. But still, there's something about those old Geocities websites with their MIDI music and obnoxious mouse cursors with glitter trails and god awful repeating backgrounds...

But on the other hand, I don't miss spending 3 hours downloading a 40 MB .rm file to watch a single episode of anime in absolute terrible quality and have no other real options.

Nah that's not true. I liked vinyl before the boom in interest just recently and I am not a boomer. Vinyl just have the added bonus of both being a cool medium for music storage with years of history AND audio quality that keeps up with modern technology. This is why cassettes are dead, they sound like shit.
>>
>>94185094
Vinyl audio quality is literally not comparable to digital, there's a qualitative gap there that cannot be bridged. And it's not in vinyl's favor. (I can certainly agree on the "cool medium for music storage with years of history" part, though.)

And again, cassettes are dead because they're primarily associated with the 90s, and a generation whose nostalgia is simply not mainstream.
