I never understood it's humor when I was young, can anyone tell me if it's any good?
>>
It was alright for its time, the humor it had when I was 17 was hilarious, now I went back and watched it and it was not quite as funny as before.
>>
>>94128210
I think seasons 3 through 7 still hold up very well.

Then again I love this show so maybe I'm too biased.
>>
>>94128210

It's more fun for the cartoon-only segments. The problem with the interviews is that they're disjointed between the celebrity and Space Ghost. They're never having a conversation. You can always tell that the guest was asked a series of questions and gave their answers, then new dialogue for Space Ghost was written around those answers to try and be funny or make the guest look foolish

So it's a lot of talking AT each other and never WITH each other and it gets kind of annoying. It just looks like Space Ghost is trying to have a conversation with a video tape.
>>
Harvey Birdman is way better
>>
>>94128676
didn't they start doing the interviews live at some point?
>>
>>94128210
It's very post-modern. Also very stupid. I think it's funny, but looking back there are at times a few too many non-sequiturs. They can be funny, but it's kind of easy humor that can get stale if overdone. There's a lot of very funny and clever stuff to the series though. It's definitely worth watching.
>>
>>94128714
Harvey Birdman has aged the worst out of the shows in the original [adult swim] line up.
>>
>>94128210
It's antihumour. If you're into being made into the punchline you will enjoy it, it's one of my favourite shows of all time.
>>
>>94128210
I still think it holds up very well. Especially the middle seasons.
>>
>>94128836

No, they started scripting them. "Table Read" proves as much, because one of the guys is reading lines that Conan O'Brien said in the interview segment of "Fire Ant".
>>
>>94129476

Also "Fire Ant" is the show's greatest episode. Don't (You) me.
>>
>>94129356
I disagree wholeheartedly. Space ghost and Sealab have aged way worse.
>>
>>94129356

Harvey Birdman still holds up. (Except maybe for the last season.)

>>94129509

SeaLab is fine through Season Two. SGC2C was always hit or miss, but the hits still hold up.

The Brak Show, on the other hand...
>>
>>94129501
Only if it's unedited.

Was the full thing allowed on air?
>>
>>94129509
>Sealab aged badly
Them's fighting words you tasteless nigger
>>
>>94128210
It's great, but a lot of the humour is just so god damn wacky and off-the-wall that it will boggle you unless you watch it multiple times.

Opening seasons and later ones are a bit worse. Stuff like Telethon is awesome.
>>
Space ghost is too meta meta for any of the plebs on this site to understand.
>>
>>94129509
>>94129566
Rewatching Harvey Birdman was a chore compare to the other shows in the original lineup. My main issue with it is that it has a great concept but it never truly commits to it other than a handful of episodes. It feels like the writers are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Some of it is funny, a lot of it isn't. The quality of the episodes are all over the place. People say that season 4 is the worst but it honestly doesn't feel that much different form seasons 2 and 3 other than it's much shorter.

Also the show had a tendency of beating jokes to the ground constantly throughout the series. Some of them are funny but the show repeats them at nauseum.

>Everyone making Harvey seem like an incompetent tool despite being a descent lawyer
>Phil Ken Sebben's saying a complete non-sequitur, laughing and then leaving
>Peter Potamus likes having sex and asking people "Did you get that thing I sent ya?"
>Birdgirl having an internal monologue but she is really saying everything out loud
>>
>>94130072
>Space ghost is too meta meta for any of the plebs on this site to understand.

It's definitely high-tier when it comes to insane humour.
>>
>>94128271
You may have watched the later seasons and then gone back to the early seasons, or vice-versa. The humor changed and got a lot edgier as it went on, because when it began Adult Swim wasn't even a thing.
>>

Adult Swim didn't exist in name but the concept was still in play. Space Ghost usually came at night and was followed by the Midnight Run which was a small anime block that played less edited episodes

Nah, I like Pinky & The Brain. The problem with Harvey Birdman is that those running jokes and gags get old rediculously fast and the show heavily depends on them when they don't have any other jokes.

I can see why Lazzo doesn't think too highly of it now upon rewatching the entire series last year its VERY hit and miss and not very consistent even in its heyday almost the entire humor hedges of the reaction from the guests and they ten to vary from being too self-aware to oblivious outside that early cartoon network skits were not particularly funny as entertaining Zorak's and Mortar's banter was. The show was very experimental almost to make up for the lack of budget but man if they missed they really missed (Story Book, Sharrock, etc.) but rather than being awful its more so boring. The adult swim seasons are pretty bad because they feel a tad too "edgy" and generally miss the appeal of the pre-adult swim era seasons also at this point the interview aspect is completely pushed aside since they're all in on it at this point. Overall its still solid but I feel that Williams's Street has grown a lot since then.

Not even fucking close. Harvey Birdman is without a doubt the best show from that era and still hold up incredibly well. Sealab becomes unwatchable once Harry Goz passes away and gets replaced by his not as funny son.
>>
>>94138130
If you watch it in the previously mentioned anti-humourous light, it's pretty great. I feel like it purposefully makes the viewer ask himself "why am I watching this?" only to answer back with "I don't know, why are you?"

Can someone tell me which episode it is in which space ghost fights a giant runny dog hand puppet which is attacking a planet?

I have the vivid image of it in my head but I can't find which episode it happens in
>>
>>94138496
I want to say it's Knifin' Around but don't quote me on it.
>>
>>94138474
I guess. I loved the shit out of it as a kid because I didn't understand what the hell I was watching but as an adult I see that they were really padding shit out and ad-libbing to get through bits that didn't land or if the guest just wasn't good enough to carry the episode. I feel like shows that came after Space Ghost pulled off the "anti-humor" aspect a lot better but considering that Space Ghost feels like a prototype for every William's Street show up till now it makes sense.
>>
>>94138806
I don't know, I feel the fact that it clearly doesn't give a shit if it's boring its audience is funny in itself. "Fire Ant" is a prime example of that.
>>
>>94138615
Just watched, sorry, but that wasn't it.

Intense Patriotism. Particularly the bit with Zorak's kids.

>SG: Uh-huh. HEY, CHAMP! They seem to be very strong swimmers.
