That game was abject shit in every way shape and form. The story was contrived and try-hard, the game/level design was redundant and boring, it was literally just a story "memeing" the fist MGS game and while that might sound cool and you might think I don't understand what Kojima was trying to do with meta-contextual story telling, the man isn't a Stanley Kubrick by any stretch of the imagination and the execution, on top of that, with some cringe-worthy OC DONUT STEEL character (Yes I know they're all his original characters with Raiden no less than the others, but you couldn't paint "try-hard" more obviously without giving him a suit made of zippers and pockets).

Twin Snakes and Snake Eater are the only two MGS games that got the whole love letter to political thrillers/war drama tropes right. MGS4 dares to do a twist on post-modern warefare and succeeds in its aesthetic, but fails at everything else (really more damage control for MGS2 than anything else). MGS Rising and MGSV are essentially franchise wheel spinning and friendly reminders that the gimmick of giving the different "Snakes" titles still hasn't worked as a passable or convincing story element since Solid and Liquid.

MGS2 is the kind crap that Zack Snyder apologists would fawn over as it apes its superficial story elements and tone just enough to trick your average sub-normer into thinking it's lol-so-deep story telling by virtue of confusion, but it's ultimately just a bad story that for all it's clever aspirations fails completely to achieve anything more than literally constantly reminding you through its own narrative and meta-context how much better and original the first MGS game's story was. The game was written like a bad self-insert fan-fiction.
