How should a show or comic set in a fictional world deal with technological inevitability, or the idea that science would be bound to discover specific technologies in a certain order? I'm not really talking about broad ideas, like a society getting a shot in the arm once it figures out how to make wheels or spark fires; it'd be stuff like when a civilization develops television before it sorts out air propulsion, or stuff like that. That sort of thing can piss people off sometimes. Should it be a major concern? Can less serious stories ignore or play around with the idea, or will it overshadow the series in the long run, like what happened to the original Flintstones show?
