Most writers think of Reed has a autistic child who spends way too much time playing with his toys in his lab. He has been depicted as having no real social skills on top of being incredibly passive when it came to family issues.

He deals with science so far advanced it delves into magic sometimes. Sue is depicted as a neglected wife who just wants to feel affection. Its been like this for years. More often than not she is depicted as a mother figure.
