>What if Superman had been evil, we would need a countermeasure to him
>So I've assembled a team of a guy who throws boomerangs really well, a guy who's really good at shooting normal handguns, a guy who's as tough as a regular guy but can tie good ropes, a guy who's tougher than a regular guy and can swim really well, a girl who owns a baseball bat and is literally insane so she can't be relied upon in crisis situations to save even her own life, and a guy who has powers that might for one-tenth of a second mildly irritate Superman
>>
>>94074458
Well desu Enchantress alone might have been enough.

HOL UP
>>
>>94074458

Also Enchantress and Diablo. Who might be able to actually do something since their powers are magic-based.
>>
>>94074458
And you want them to fight Superman?! That sounds like some kind of Suicide Squad!
>>
>>94074458
Took you 1 year to come up with this, you are a year too late dude
>>
Was anyone else bothered by the way Waller just guns down her own people in the movie the second her rescue arrives?
>>

>They all come together to form a single Batman
>Boomerangs - Baterangs

I feel like they didn't really think that team through.

to fight Superman I'll assemble a team of guys who got their asses kicked by Batman
>>
That's dumb. Let's just continue our demonstrably ineffective tactics against superpowered threats.
>>
>>94074819
Why not? That was such an out of character moment for her, there was a time when Waller told a suit (I can't for the life of me remember his name) to fuck off when he wanted to kill deadshot for talking back. Waller, just murdering her underlings was a terrible way to show that she's cold hearted.
>>94074765
Glad to know I'm not the only one.
>>
>>94074458
>Taking Wallers speech word for word

She basically just tried to sell her task force x program to the higher ups.
It was a starting point, in time she'd want to add stronger metas to the team.
>>
Gentlemen, I propose we assemble a task force of some of the worst criminals on the planet for perfect scapegoat/black ops purposes, but lets still give them an armed military escort. Im sure no one will ask questions
>>
>>94074928
>Why not
Because Waller is a cold woman who gets shit done while being deeply involved with black ops. Which is the kind of stuff that might require you to shoot an employee or two
>That was such an out of character moment for her
Not really
>>
What was the justification for forming the squad in the original comics?
>>
>>94075073
They were there to stop the bad guys of course.
>>
>>94075098
Mayne it's just because I stopped reading modern Suicide squad and just stick to the Ostrander run, but that scene just rubbed me the wrong way, felt like it was forced in just so we would think Oh what an evil bitch! I don't usually fall back on the Not Muh argument, but I have no choice here. Waller, in that moment, was portrayed worse than in most runs, the only worse bit I'd say is from the first arc of the new 52 series.
>>94075124
To preform missions that the US Government wouldn't sanction, the advantage is that since they're all villains and get out every other month, if their mission failed they could be disavowed and the world would just write them off as villains doing villainous things. They del w I think more political problems that with super shenanigans
>>
>>94074458
you gotta level up. Deadshot, Captain Boomerange, and Harley let you get a lower level meta, then those get you more on the level of diablo and enchantress, which waller got lucky finding them

get to more adventures and capture more criminals, eventually all of them together can take on superman, or a bunch of your diablos and enchantresses can take on the justice league sans superman.
>>
This some kind of suicide squad?
>>
>>94074550

The writer/director simply does not get Waller, same as the current run. they keep referring to herself as the devil and feel like they have to evil her up. Amanda is a pragmatist who may be too passionate at times, she says it in Janus directive best "I do not throw away lives for nothing"
>>
>>94074550
Yes. It wasn't even a morally questionable moment, it was outright evil.

Afterwards she reassures Rick Flagg that he's not a psychopath because he can't sleep peacefully after all the things he's done. Earlier in the movie, when Rick has insomnia, he calls Waller - and the movie cuts to her missing the call because she's sleeping peacefully.

Movie Waller is an outright psychopath, only slightly better than those locked up in Arkham because she has some notion of the greater good that matches our national interest.
>>
>>94075311
Maybe Waller was never in a situation that required her to shoot her own people in the comic. Because while you say
>Waller told a suit to fuck off when he wanted to kill deadshot for talking back.
at the end of the day she is still the woman who put an grenade inside Deadshot that she will blow up should he disobey orders.
>>
>>94074889
Batman kicked supermans ass in the movie, so a team of guys he beat could work t.b.h
>>
Their job in the movie was to literally escort Waller up a flight of stairs.
>>
>>94075390
>"I do not throw away lives for nothing"
Fuck man, I want THIS Waller back, she was great in Oatrander's run, like, you hated that bitch, but goddammit if she wasn't right most of the time
>>94075424
I can garentee you there were moments where she didn't need to, but she sure as fuck wanted to shoot Digger right in his dumb face. But in the film, she didn't need to gun her people down, it was just a moment that came completely out of left field, there wasn't even a "No one can know I was here" line to elude to her killing her people.
>>
>>94075527
>For nothing
Well neither did movie Amanda
>she didn't need to gun her people down
Then all saw stuff they weren't supposed to see.
>>
>>94075579
And Flagg and Deadshot? Flagg maybe gets a pass, but Lawton should have been killed the moment he stepped in that room by your logic.
>>

Holy shit this might be the most autistic thing I've ever read on /co/
>>
>>94075098
Anon, you can't "get shit done" if you don't have people to do shit with. The only times Waller ever got mean with her employees was when they questioned her, and most of them either backed down or stood their ground because they knew she was doing something wrong. She respected the people who did the latter, she wouldn't just shoot them unless they were actively trying to undermine a mission.

I don't know how you can say it isn't out of character unless you actually haven't read the comics.
>>
>>94075645
>>94075655
Also Deadshot was part of the Task Force X program, which is what the employers got killed for. The saw the Task Force X program that they weren't supposed to see
>>
>>94074478
Enchantress had teleportation, summon normal swords, and a doomsday spell.

If her powers were any more versatile than that it wasn't shown.
>>
>>94074568
Croc is from New Orleans.
>>
>>94074550
She was as bad as CW Waller.
>>
>>94075746
So when 20 of her employees sees something they aren't supposed to see how does she handle it? Give everyone a promotion?
>>94075782
She also had hallucination powers
>>
THIS IS KATANA
>>
>>94075828
Everyone she works with knows what's going on. That's kind of the point, you don't hire people to work in a super prison that you run a black ops group out of if you don't want them finding out.
>>
>>94075073
And a lot of the armed military escorts made it to the end, making the non-superhuman SS members seem even more pointless.
>>
I don't really get the setup of this movie, although I didn't see it so maybe I missed something.
Correct me if I'm wrong with any of this.
I do know however that the reason for the suicide squads existence is to send in criminals to perform morally questionable black ops raids(assassinate a corrupt politician with good publicity) that the government can write off as a terrorist attack if it goes wrong and Insta kill anyone who tries to break the rules. This makes sense to have Harley for example, because she is a wildcard who the public will easily believe committed said terrorist attacks of her own volition.

So if that's the case, why send them to fight what(judging by the trailers) appears to be a supervillain who has attacked new York avengers style. If it's very clearly a world threatening doomsday villain, why not send ACTUAL armies or superheroes?
>>
>>94074506
Fuck you, I'm cackling on the bus now
>>
Bronze Age suicide squad was really good if you could just take out that cyberpunk chick
>>
>>94075873
She wasn't in the super prison went shit went done
>>94075896
>why send them to fight what appears to be a supervillain
Because said super villian was part of the squad as the anti Superman weapon, but they had to take her down and they needed meta humans to get the job done.
>ACTUAL armies or superheroes?
The army that they did send couldn't get close and it wouldn't look good if the entire US army suddenly invaded a US city because people would start asking questions. As for superheroes, there aren't any.
>>
>>94075896

Because the studio suits make their hired hack directors make the movies according to the Blake Snyder's "Save The Cat" formula and nobody actually understands or familiarises themselves with the source material.
>>
I'm still salty we didn't get Dutchess in this movie, it would have been a great way to bridge suicide squad and JL together.
>>
>>94075984

>actually trying to rationalise SS' abortion of a plot

wow
>>
I hate this complaint. It's not like they could just walk out and grab the Atomic Skull and Parasite, they don't exist in this universe. The people they got are the closest things to superhumans they have available to them.

To be fair, this whole line was a really pathetic attempt to tie in this movie with the cinematic universe, and even worse it infected the whole movie by taking a team created as covert ops and trying to jam it into the shitty superhero movie formula.

>>94075928
There isn't a Bronze Age Suicide Squad. There's a Silver Age and a modern age.
>>
>>94075984
>they needed metahumans
Last I checked deadshot and Harley weren't metahumans
>>
>>94075998
Fuck you David Ayer is a good directer
>>94076030
It can be done
>>
>>94076019
For me the lack of Bronze Tiger was unacceptable.
>>
>>94075782
Superman has no immunity to magic swords though, so they would stab him.
>>
>>94076062
Think there is any hope for us in the sequel?
>>
>>94075797
What? They don't say this in the movie, do they? He's in Louisiana because he'd in Belle Reve.
>>
>>94076043

The one with the Iranian flaming sword guy, and the BDSM lady from Apokolips isn't Bronze Age? It was mid-80's if i remember correctly. Wouldn't that put it in Bronze?
>>
>>94076044
Borderline Meta, Capitan America tier.
>>
>>94076076
Why? They were made with magic but that doesn't mean they can slice through anything.

>>94076104
There's no hope for anything in the sequel.
>>
>>94075896
Because having them do politically sensitive stuff that comments on government secrecy, realpolitik, international law, and interventionism like Ostrander did would be too complex for a vehicle to sell some Harley Quinn merchandise on her "off-beat and lovably psychotic" image.
>>
>>94076112
Captain America is a guy juiced up on superhero serum, he is full on meta.
Deadshot is a human with really good aim, and Harley is a average strength human who is mentally unhinged
>>
>>94075865
SHES GOT A BACK
>>
>>94076112
Says who?
No version of Deadshot has that, and nothing indicates movie Harley is enhanced.
>>
>>94076056

He's a one trick pony like Neil Blomkamp. He just keeps making worse versions of his breakout one hit Tranining Day, and everything outside it is either straight up garbage or mediocre as fuck.

He even cucked out when asked directly about who had the final cut of Suicide Squad. He's a definition of a studio hack with artistic pretenses in really lowbrow material.
>>
>>94076106
Not in the movie, but that's the origin of the character in other universes, so it's logical to conclude that's the case here too unless it's said otherwise.
>>
>>94076163
>>94076198
Captain America is not meta, he is enchanted but not meta. Like Deathstroke

As for Deathshot his aim is just to good for a normal human and the chemicals did something to Harley.
>>
>>94076263
Peak human =/= fit guy

And nothing in the movie suggests either are physically more than fit adults.
>>
>>94076200
You never saw Fury did you, and he only wrote Training Day he didn't direct it.
>He's a one trick pony like Neil Blomkamp
Pretty sure that word you are looking for is one hit wonder, not one trick pony.
>>
>>94074458
>a guy who throws boomerangs really well,

Actually he didn't. In the SS movie he threw his boomerangs horizontally. The correct way to throw boomerangs is vertically.

If you throw a boomerang horizontally, it goes up and away from you and never comes back. 2 fucking minutes of research on the internet is all the SS movies guys had to spend to know the correct way to throw a fucking boomerang. Too much work for them.
>>
>>94074458
>a guy who has powers that might for one-tenth of a second mildly irritate Superman

he's literally just a guy with a portable flamethrower, this seems really optimistic.

>>94074478
If her performance in physical combat is anything like Incubus's, then lol fuck no.
>>
>>94076557
>he's literally just a guy with a portable flamethrower, this seems really optimistic.
Powered by an Aztec god
>>
>>94076311

Fury was a very mediocre war movie which is now notable only for being a moderately big studio picture Shia Lebeouf managed to get casted in after being blacklisted for badmouthing Spielberg.

No, one trick pony. Their movies that went after are thematically and fomally identical, indicating they can't think of an original idea.
>>
>>94076595
>Powered by an Aztec god
It doesn't seem to effect anything, at no point are his flames shown to be more potent than normal ones, and he got knocked around enough times to show that he has more or less normal human durability.
>>
>>94076595
So a portable flamethrower with an attitude
>>
>>94074492
*gets jiggy wit it*
>>
>>94076595
But nobody knew that, and the actual fire seems to just be regular fire.
>>
Has Waller ever saved the day in an crisis that was not caused by her or her employers?
>>
>>94075478
>kicked supermans ass in the movie
>A Superman holding back and not instantly decapitating or burning a hole into Batman if he was as much of an evil shit as he Bruce assumed he could be

Wouldn't work on any Kryptonian like Zod or his cronies, who could just splatter Batman and then proceed to fuck Earth to death all by themselves.

Anyone who isn't a high-end meta themselves isn't shit to a Kryptonian threat.
>>
>>94076779
Well, technically, she was responsible for Terry existing, so every time he saved the day it was indirectly her doing.
>>
>>94074492

>>

>>
>>94074458
Nice Nostalgia Critic quote
>>
>>94076632
Well, except for that part where he melted another gods chest.
>>
>>94076779
It depends what you mean by "saved the day" I think. The only Suicide Squad worth talking about is the 80s one and actually they're pretty rarely in "save the day" stakes: almost the whole point of the Squad is that because they're covert, deniable, disposable etc and because they ought to be in jail they CAN be used politically in a way you can't normally do with a default DC superhero.

So usually their objectives are like "rescue this writer who's in prison in another country so we can use her for PR" or "kill these terrorists" or "depose this dictator". In the latter half of the run they are technically mercenaries, but they're still basically on-hire to governments for causes and missions Waller thinks are worth being paid for. The run never really went all-in on the PMC and privatization stuff it could've hit there, but it was the 80s.
>>
>>94077587
The one who was blown to smithereens by a normal bomb? And has zero feats proving that his flesh has a particularly high melting point?
>>
>>94074458
The entire reasoning for the formation of the Suicide Squad was so shitty. They're supposed to be a covert black ops team who do shady wetworks stuff without any accountability. But they're formed to be an anti-metahuman task force? Fucking why?

>>94074550
Uh, yeah? Literally something The Wall would never fucking do. Christ, this movie was fucking shit.
>>
You know what else is stupid. The original Suicide Squad wasn't to fight Superman/Superheroes, it was black ops wet work with disposable agents.
>>
>>94075896
>So if that's the case, why send them to fight what(judging by the trailers) appears to be a supervillain who has attacked new York avengers style
Because The Avengers made a shitload of money.
>>
>>94074458
Superman was just an example. The point was the government currently had nothing with to combat beings like Superman. Starting a new secret metahuman black ops program and running it, with more recruits and resources as time went by was going to remedy that.
>>
>>94074550
No. Waller has done a lot of underhanded shit beyond Ostrander's original Suicide Squad run. In 52 she engineered a situation where she could get Osiris on tape murdering a member of the Suicide Squad. She's all about cause justifying the means.
>>
>>94076109
Bronze Age ended in early to mid-80's, typically thought to coincide with TDKR/Watchmen. Suicide Squad was '87.
>>
>>94076595
That actually might be the difference, Superman is historically weak to magic. If this counts as magic fire it might actually be a fight.
