While I understand that they are trying to make a point and the MMO is just a motif, but I just can't help but feel like they don't play MMOs. I play an MMO since 2004 and have heavy gold farmer issue during first half of that time, and chinese gold farmers has always been some of the most orgnized and well equipped "guilds" that were not part of some big Japanese player collectives. They were also very good and griefing and monopolizing resource gathering and key raids that were not instanced back in the day.

Also the Chinese is a bit off here, it technically means "where can I see you" but its very literal in its Chinese, so its kind of weird it use "meet" in machine translation, because that's not what should come out. It should use 在那裡碰面 or 在那裡見面 instead. Also, those seen to be traditional chinese, which is not used in mainland china, they were primarily used in Taiwan and overseas chinese areas, which I were not aware to have heavy gold farmer presences... or at least, not organized ones.

Not OP Okay here's the thing about this Storytime of Pain can be a good storytime of pain if you know about MMO's and the actual issues of gold farming. Because well the book was written by a guy who never played MMO's there is an afterword in this book that was not posted where he declares this because this book glosses over issues that need to come up.

*The gold farming being entirely reliant on the game developers not changing the system to discourage gold farming making it pointless to do it.
*The issues of how some Gold farmer do ruin the fun of the game by fucking players over, that bully character makes sense if you know how fucked they can make your life if you run into them.
*The story makes up the game mechanics as it goes along.
*It never brings up the fact that China has a very different culture than we do and the idea of Union's is not new there....just never goes well.
*same lame girl gamer stereotypes that will pop up.

This year World of Warcraft changed it's entire gold system giving less bang for your time so it's very easy to see this story as well, how do we unionize an unstable economy that was only meant to help players in a game that can go away at the whim of some nerds in California. It's painful because this is not a good idea and won't help anyone.
