What really hurts is that the ending of Samurai Jack was almost beautiful.

In the end, love and compassion is what gets him home.

His compassion for Ashi gets her to see the truth and she saves his life in turn. Twice.

His love for Ashi frees her from Aku and her love for him gets her to take him home.

His compassion for all the people he helped inspires them to free him when he is captured.

But then in the end all of these people are obliterated from existence. All for caring about Jack.

Almost beautiful. Ultimately twisted.

Why are people so confident that Jack would even be able to kill future Aku?

Every other time they've fought, Jack swings his sword, Aku flies away, probably saying something like, "I'll be back, Samurai!", and then he'll flutter over the horizon and they won't see each other for like a week. Then they'll do the same thing all over again. And during this time Aku still has his evil empire.

Killing Aku in the past, when he was weaker, was the only way. It's been established.
