I disagree. I think Dan and Arin are actually as close a pair of friends as they like to talk about.

The problem is that they're the type of friends who aren't as natural with their duo comedy as Jon and Arin were together.

Arin doesn't work well as active, but it was what he had to do with Dan in tow. Dan is extremely passive in his dialogue, which is not a bad thing at all. Just a bit of a different flavor, which is naturally...not great for some people.

I do agree that Dan is super supportive, but you don't keep up a large channel like this, plus a live show, plus a fucking band without actually enjoying each other's company. If he wasn't, then the second Grump could have easily been sweet and innocent Ross.

Beyond that, Dan's friendship with Arin feels a lot more reliable than Jon's. I mean, look at how the two split up and how there was literally nothing else between them for years. A real friendship wouldn't have had that happen, and speaks to their character more than any bad game opinions and tactless, uninformed racial commentary ever could.

And yes, the reason for splitting was probably Jon not wanting to be contractually obligated to Grumping, not some insidious inside story that no one has ever divulged.

Dan tries but Arin's method of being "the loud one" is just to make a lot of dick and fart noises.
Jon was a loud goof and Arin was able to use that as a spring board, but Dan is too chill and just not as crass as Arin. there's times when you can hear Dan just being sick of the baby shit Arin is throwing around but has to hold it together.

HOWEVER, The four funniest moments are the two Sonic'06 tantrums, the Nickelodeon Guts spaz and the Battle Kid ordeal.

I think he knows how good off he is right now. They are very clear on accepting that the Grump life is a temporary life and they're working on getting eggs in the basket ahead of time. I remember recently finding some nu-game grumps video turn up on my recommended feed, and watching it to see if they ever managed to overcome their mediocrity without jon and to see if it'd manage to give me a chuckle. It was really embarrassingly bad, there was this drawn-out segment where dan randomly started mentioning antisemitism or whatever. it wasn't even remotely appropriate, they were doing some edgy joke about a stranger mentioning depressing things and he took the opportunity to, for some random fuckin reason, start blubbering about how the """alt right""" or /pol/ or whatever uses the echoes meme to identify jews. like, literally out of the blue and completely uncalled for.
