Stand Still Stay Silent is a Post-Post Apocalypse Webcomic set after a plague has wiped out most of humanity and most other mammals. A few turned into horrible Cronenberg-esque monstrosities rather than merely dying. The comic takes place 90 years after the infection first hit, with the Scandinavian survivors launching their first research-exploration mission into the unknown.
After having posted the prologue on /tg/, I am now posting on here. I plan to get through the whole webcomic, but I have a math-lab in the morning so I think I'm just gonna do the first chapter and pick it up when I get back.

But you need a lot more than just sheep to support a population, and small islands are generally hard to live on without outside help. Before modern transportation there people who tried to colonize distant small and cold islands simply all died there during a bad winter. Imagine a whole population who dies because they couldn't get any provisions from the outside, and there's not much supplies they can store especially since the whole world isn't exactly overflowing with food and other supplies to send them.

I can´t shake the feeling that the faroe being abandoned is for purely narrative reasons rather than logic. Part of the premise is "only Scandinavia survived", and the Faeroe aren´t Scandinavian, they´re scottish. Having Scottish (or any non-scandinavian) civilization or even culture alive wouldn´t fit in the setting she wanted. Ergo, they didn´t make it.
There´s too many parts that feels that the setting twists itself way too much to justify a lot of the things in the story, like with the technology and the religious stuff. Like, they explain the virus and how the world ended, but did they explain the magic? Where did it come from? and, if I recall, they forgot way too much about stuff like geography and history, specially considering Iceland is mostly intact. They "devolved" way too quickly into vikings and priests. Not to mention the religion is the same they had 1000 years, without any modification or mutation, while conveniently forgetting about Christianity, islam, budism, etc. Not to mention the Finns have their own gods and beliefs, that work only for them, which is not touched upon nearly deep enough in my opinion.

It´s beautiful artwise, and the characters are well developed and interesting. But the plot holes in the larger setting really keep me from fully enjoying this comic.

It's virtually impossible to make a comic like this, especially with zombies, and think everything through because the reality would be simply boring. It has some explanations, and while a lot doesn't make sense it's good enough to ignore those parts. One thing that makes me wonder though is why did they bother with distributing the "cure" if they could've just simply used other methods to kill the mutating patients. It's not like they had to concern themselves with public opinion when it became clear that it's an apocalypse. Even if they hoped that it could work on some percentage and then figure out why it worked for those few people they made it fairly clear that it's too late to try to help the infected ones, so waiting for it just doomed everyone else.

I've already read the comic not that long ago so I know what happens. But ripping steel or other metal apart isn't a matter of strength. A properly made train just wouldn't be possible to rip without tools because there would be nothing to grab on it.

There is no magic strength potion that will make bones or muscles more resilient and harder than steel, and that's exactly what you need if you want to damage it. To make a note of this. I find poking holes at what's essentially a Science-Fantasy a bit round about. Think of it this way, there was probably a small percentage of immune people everywhere, but there weren't enough to survive in heavily populated areas. The rest either died during the long time since the outbreak or lives in isolated communities. Iceland has the least people immune because only there non immune people didn't die en masse. As for the culture, it just makes things more interesting to read about I guess. If you want an actual explanation let's go with people panicked and blamed modern cultures for the disease so they went back to the roots since to them it seemed like only the shared Nordic cultures have survived, and since the big multicultural cities likely met the same fate as the rest of the world only isolated communities, who tend to be old fashioned, survived. Technology needs to be manufactured otherwise it breaks in a few years, and most of it is produced in cities, and a huge portion is imported. They lost the access to cities and any imports so that severely limited the access to it, though I'm guessing military and scientists might still have some of it.

There's an interesting book, "Hitler's Table Talk". The man was obsessed with his legacy and knew people much later would want to know his thoughts, so he had everything taped and written down. Even private conversations. The book is a collection of those. He has a ridiculously good grasp of politics, but when it comes to economics or strategy he's a complete idiot. The book struck me with how human he comes across, especially in private moments. But multiple times he gets frustrated and angry with the occultism in his own party.

Don`t get me wrong, this comic is fantastic in several levels. The art is simply gorgeous, the writing works really well, (the humor can be amazing, like in>>93966351) and the attention to detail is admirable.
It`s just that the few things that irk me irk me a lot. They realy distract me from the experience. Placing it in the real world, and so close, yet not close enough to reality just opens so many questions that won`t be answered because they don`t matter but are still there, and it ruins it for me. And I know I`m wrong, and I should brush it off and enjoy the ride, but I can`t, I just can`t.
And the worst part is that I fucking love the premise and the execution of the plot. Post-apocaliptic archeology on a budget is a really, REALLY niche genre.
