Becuse it was clever. Humor doesnt need to be complex, disgusting or insightful, which I think Hollywood has completely dropped. everyone has become jaded as fuck. Also the political jokes in retrospect are interesting with jokes about Bill Clinton and late 90s issues.

It was basically the Marx Brothers in cartoon form. For every slapstick gag involving wacko smashing someone with a hammer there was another gag involving word play and wit. It hit that balance perfectly appealing to everyone. The only thing that didn't age well was the early 90s pop culture jokes that involve movies and celebrities that stopped being relevant 10 years ago.
