Recently, an unused gem in the official artbook by the name of Concrete has been spiking in harsh popularity. Apparently the gem is racist because it "represents black caricatures from the older days" and that she doesn't know how to read.

Rebecca was pushed to make a statement to apologise, and that the crew will take Concrete out of the book.

And it still isn't enough for most people. They are going to force it into cancellation.

Most of the good anime are derived from manga. It doesn't take long for an anime to overshoot the production of the manga, especially if it gets popular. Newsflash, if you can remove any episode and watch the series like it never happened then it is a filler episode. Doesn't matter how many background sentences or images they put in to pretend there's continuity. Now I don't mind a bit of filler, but when plot points and other important information are intentionally kept away from the audience, not for mystery but for artificially extending the plot and replaced with ideas/plots that matter little in the grand scheme of things then it quickly irritates the audience. Many of the concepts and answers to questions in SU can be easily answered with a conversation or actual investigative work by the characters in question. They aren't information that needs to be explained over the course of several episodes like say quantum physics or intensive philosophical
esoteric methods. It's just 'who are they and why are they doing this'. Simple questions with simple answers with the thinly veiled 'you're not ready' excuse in leu of actually going anywhere.

Add the fact that they have a lot of freedom of what episode each person wants, and one storyboarder even going as far as to force in her own idea of character development, and you get an unfocused mess.

This is completely wrong. Every major arc has ended with a suitably epic climax. The problem is they then immediately ramp things back down to mostly status quo. And even then, this didn't ever conflict directly with the obvious natural trajectory of the show until Season 3, when they created the meme barn to dispose of Peridot and Lapis after spending almost half of the previous season detailing Peridots conversion.

Season 4 was a shitfest of experimental 'conflict free TV' garbage, but they seem to have given that up now.

Based on some screenshots of the more self-pitying posts I've seen from Zuke's Tumblr, it looked like Zuke was certainly trying to push for a lot of her head-canons/ships to be canon, but most of them were rejected with some frequency.

Though having that sort of team effort can have its own drawbacks when left with a group of writers/boarders who approach episodes as fans of the show rather than the actual staff. Which would definitely explain stuff like how Peridot's character seemingly became a flanderized joke overnight.

Concrete is actually really great from a writing and character potential standpoint. Answering questions like "Why does she like shoes so much?" opens up to her being the only gem that wears human clothing in the form of their shoes, something she'd never have the chance to experience on homeworld.

To say nothing from the classic arc of them learning to read, causing Concrete to develop and gain new interests whilst also putting the other characters in the roles of teachers, each with their own method of education. And to top it all off her having a great foundation to build her character and experiences off of is even thematic to her name/gemstone!

I really think they should use Concrete, or at least a character with a different name and design (which isn't really all that bad either) but has the same foundation. Or i'll steal the idea myself, no one will ever know.
