I'm honestly surprised that people were surprised about Eclipsa's personality. She's literally Star if Star was older and more evil and manipulative. She had that same carefree, irresponsible tone to her voice and behavior. As a character I feel she'll act as a reflection for Star to see what she could end up becoming if she continues to ignore the needs and wishes of other people in favour of her own impulsive desires.

Oh yeah, also Star fucked everything up when she dipped down at the end of the movie to kill Toffee. I know it was played as if she did the right thing and saved the day but I think that's not the case. Glossarick was trying to revitalize and restore the universe's magic using the small spark of magic he had to create a slow boild reaction that would allow magic to recover over time. However Star didn't listen to him and outright ignored his telling her not to grab the spark, which allowed her to immediately revitalize magic and gain great power temporarily, but the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.

Long theory short, Star messed up in the same way she always does, she went for the quick fix that seems to work in the short term but causes even bigger problems in the long run because she doesn't listen to anyone and acts impulsively.

I guarantee that I am right on this. It's far too thematically appropriate for Star's character arc for this to not be the case. If this ends up being true it also means the ending of the movie where Star defeats Toffee wasn't ever meant to be a copout/asspull but was designed to seem that way until the other shoe drops.

The same thing happened the first time Star "Defeated" Toffee, she exploded him, got a 'Wand Upgrade' and everything worked out fine for her despite her not having a plan and being totally outplayed.

Then the other shoe dropped. See a pattern here?

I don't hate Star, however one of the biggest aspects of her character is that she's impulsive and doesn't listen to others, which leads her to do things that seem good at the time but lead to problems down the road. Which is why it would be jarring to me if all of Star's blind impulsiveness and completely ignoring everyone else resulted in her winning anyway and everything being fine without any problems. It's completely against everything that we've seen from this show thematically.

This was all a part of the plan, he fucks with everything, forces Moon to make the deal for her freedom, dies, gets resurrected by Eclipsa now that she's free and gets his mom back. Of course the original plan was that Moon would kill him using the spell that Eclipsa taught her, however it put a kink in that plan when she missed and cut his finger off instead. However, then along came Star, someone powerful enough to kill him even without the spell so he re-worked the plan.

I mean why do you think he has hair? None of the other Lizards had hair, Toffee has hair because he's a half-breed.

I think I just figured out how Season 3 can still finish Dies Irae.

Now that we know Moon has a curse on her that could possibly kill her I think this will cause events leading to Star's fall from light to Darkess. This is where Eclipsa promises to cure it, but needs to teach Star dark magic. So Star starts leaning Dark magic only for it to cause more problems then she thought ultimately leading to Moons death. This causes Star to fully fall and the season ends. All I got for now.

He didn't have full control over Ludo. He could give suggestions, but not take full possession of him except for explicit instances where high levels of magic were being released.
1) First possess Ludo when Eclipsa's chapter is opened, and does nothing else but talk to Glossaryck and tell him to hide;
2) Absorbs Moon's magic, defeats the High Commission, and loses possession. Ludo wakes up the next morning with no memory;
3) Glossaryck's book burns, he gets to possess him for half a minute to talk to the dying god;
4) Possesses Ludo one final time to force Moon to give back his finger.

Making sure Eclipsa was alive was irrelevant to what he was doing. He had to complete several tasks in a short amount of time, and he had to rely on someone with Ludo's physique to intimidate and strongarm those plans to fruition. Toffee never had time to verify anything, and even if he wanted to, Ludo being a monster would set off so many magical alarms he wouldn't find out the truth anyways.

so with season 3 the ratio of female regular boarders vs male regular boarders is 3:1, with 3 mixed gender teams (Zach/Cassie, Jushtin/Amelia, and Casey/Evon) and 3 all female teams (Sabrina/Kirsten, Madeleine/Nicolette, and Gina/Sarah). Also, I think she may have intentionally missed Toffee as she was indecisive about what to do with them. Rather than negotiate peace or war, she proved she had the power to kill toffee.

By proving that, even if his army HADN'T left him, he knew that any attack he led would end in failure as long as she had the wand and the power to end them. I don't think it matters if his army deserted him. More important was that it sent a message that the upper hand was still in the palm of the royal family.

I always thought it was a crack theory. But the fact they even showed Merpeople with the same sorta color scheme and fittingly seashell theme as Jackie made me rethink it. Yeah, but think of it this way. What would cause more collateral damage, Stopping Toffee's army dead on its tracks w/o killing him or Killing Toffee, releasing Eclipse, then trying to reseal her? We don't know how much effort it took to seal Eclipsa in the first place. Now if she was freed and built a monster army of her own, not only do you have to deal with a monster army, but now they have access to an experienced magic user. Magic was the only advantage Moon had against Toffee's army and Eclipsa was more experienced with it than her.

OK so this is my theory of what's going on. Trying to think like Nefcy does and hopefuly assuming that everything she planned wasn't discarded or retconned.

Here how it starts:

1. Mewni land on the island and great Mewni/Monster war begin

2. Monsters are defeated and live in the less fertile lands. There is still hatred between the mewni and monster kind and occasional wars and battles.

3. Eclipsa becomes a queen. She feel empathethic toward monsters that mewni lords and counts are crushing in her name.
3A. In ruins of septarian village She finds and adopt an orphan baby monster whom she named Toffee because it like one of her candy bars

OR
3B She somehow manage to give birth to a monster with a different species of a monster (this is less likely but explain human hair on Toffee)


4. Eclipsa manage to rise Toffee as a intelligent noble in secret and maybe even tell him what happned with his parents

5. Nobles and royalty learn about Toffee and assume that she's a lover and traitor to monsters. Toffee only manage to learn that she was executed and assumes that she died. But in fact she was imprisoned for that for eternity.

6. Toffee basically had his real parents and foster parent killed by Mewnian and want to take revenge on Butterfly line. He make sure to disrupt the peace among monsters and Mewni and kill Moons mother.

7. His knowledge about GLossaryck and magic as well as whispering spell comes from Eclipsa herself. His ultimate plan was to destroy Butterflies, get his revenge and install monsters like Ludo to make everyone suffer. Also by ruining the magic to anyone else who would want to ever challenge him. He didn't however expect that Star would be this powerfull.


OK so how does that work? Explain most of the plotholes?

final thoughts on Toffee death I guess. really hoped they weren't going to go there this early in the show's run and the alive/dead back-and-forth toward the end was way too much of a tease. will have to wait and see where the plot goes in the future/rewatch the episodes later individually rather than in the movie format to better judge how it all works.

but as for the Toffee death, assuming it's permanent, it did at least cover all the bases I'd hoped for when predicting how he'd go out

>Ludo also plays a role in fucking him over (guess you could argue who killed him but I'd it wouldn't have happened at all without Star)
>he's a monster who's known for his regeneration, so get really gruesome and brutal with it
and they went above and beyond in that department.

so as of right now it feels like both a weird anticlimax for what I thought Toffee's role in the narrative was and an interesting sequence that hopefully will mean more in the future.
