Gambit was at least hugely popular once. His decline could be blamed on Marvel mismanaging him, or on it not being the 1990s anymore, but if Marvel put the effort in, they could easily make him popular again.

Wonder Man, on the other hand, the industry seems full of guys who like him, but none of can raise him beyond "a guy that nostalgics vaguely feel ought to be on an Avengers team somewhere".

A Wonder Man movie would've only been good in the 80s or early 90s. Not that Whedon kept him out of the MCU but he did go to bat for Vision and Scarlet Witch, but didn't create a Wonder Man for Vision to get his brain patterns from.

He may get in eventually but Gunn wasn't able to fit him in, and it gets harder as they have more and more characters.
