Two leakers have stated that they are killing the book because they want Doom as a villain. Presumably Waid cockblocking Bendis since Waid is one of those writers who gets pissy that other writers try and make Doom a good guy like Magneto.

Say what you will about Fraction's run, but at least it built up a direction and side characters. What did Bendis really do with Iron Man, beyond some gimmicks? Oh man, I am adopted. Oh man, here's a brown woman who will hang out with Doom later. Oh man, I am dead and and a black female version of Amadeus Cho is here and now I'm an AI. He has added nothing substantial or memorable to Tony Starks story beyond these marketing tricks.

Not all of that is on Bendis, but it's super clear Marvel doesn't really know what to do with Tony except fill him with snark and take things away from him. On some level, I respect Bendis just going on auto-pilot and cranking out these stories. They're going to get made anyway; why not get that paycheck?

Like I said, I know this isn't all on Bendis, but he's the poster boy for "meaningless, kick-around stories" for Tony Stark. They're not even fun, it's just about beard bros and long dialogue sequences.
