A better question is why did they call it World of Winx and label it a spinoff and then continue to season 8 afterwards, when it's part of the plot of the main story and you need to watch seasons 1-7, followed by World of Winx, and then you can continue with season 8.

No you're right they called it a spin off and gave it a different name. But it's the same main cast. The catch is the girls are on Earth now hiding their fairy identities and acting as talent agents/spies. They go around recruiting and protecting variously talented Earth kids. It's rather removed from the story of the original series since it doesn't focus on the endgame of the overarching show and is more like a side story, but one that's going to be essential to watch since elements and characters are going to carry over into the main show.

The actual final plot of World of Winx actually had a pretty interesting concept that I never saw coming.

The main villain was this powerful evil Fairy named Queen, who turned out to be Tinkerbell who fell to the dark side because Peter Pan left her to go back to Earth and she's still in love with him. Her bitterness festered for years until she eventually turned evil and now wants to destroy Earth for revenge. The season deals with Neverland, and some Peter Pan lore. Captain hook is a recurring villain made young again by Queen and has some powers, although he's just playing along so he can take over Neverland. Smee is with him of course. The girls try to track down Peter only to find he went missing years ago, but they find his and Wendy's son who goes with them to find his father. Totally didn't see any of this peter pan stuff coming when the season started.
