What the fuck are you talking about, this is completely retarded

>They're supposed to maintain one emotion all the time

Fucking why, they only need to do that when the user uses them, just make a face for 3 seconds so they can get scanned and sent, there's no fucking need to always be with the same emotion in the city

It'd be like if an actor was always in-character, even if they weren't recording and he was buying groceries or some shit
>>

The concept itself doesn't work.

It'd be like having a movie where the limbs of a body came to life while the body is asleep and having conservations and adventures during that that time.

Perhaps they do not know when they will be "scanned and sent". The movie's plot probably stems from that kid trying to send a "meh" face to someone and it ends up being something else.
>>
>>93772695
That depends on the writing. Brad had mentioned wanting to do more with the Incredibles, but wanted to wait for the right story to come to mind, so I bet he was jotting done every little good idea that came to mind.

Ralph is gonna be tricky, since the first film was all about dealing with mid-life crisis. If the sequel is just a random adventure, it'll probably lack any deeper theme to it. Though as long as they don't do what the Shrek movies did where Ralph resets to his old ways, it could be fine.

Wreck-It-Ralph: Characters have to act a certain way when being presented to humans, but are otherwise generally free to do as they wish.

>>93772897
Everyone is "always on their phone". Sort of like how everyone drives a car or uses a modern form of transportation instead of horses. It's not a generational thing like old people try to say, it's just part of the world today.

On top of that, kids are usually glued to their phone when in a conversation with someone on their phone, or when trying to escape.

If a kid ignores you for their phone it's more likely because they would rather talk to anyone else but you or they're just trying to escape you.

>>
>>93772602
Method acting is a real a thing, and I'd excuse the movie if that was the entire point of always having to be an emotion.
>>
>>93772602
The visuals are good, the animation is good, some of the jokes even land. On a technical standpoint, this is as competent as something like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs but it's not worth watching. And that's why it's upsetting.

Everything's "there" except for the fact that this is a 90 minute movie based on a nothing concept. This would've been better as like, 5 minute shorts or something.

Take all the skill that was made to pull this off and put it on an actual project, we'd have a real fucking movie worth talking about now.

1. Methinks that the decently designed human characters deserve better stories than this yawn of a movie.

2. Why a whole population of different emojis that can be grouped according to similiar designs / dimensions compared to...say, a yellow circle stick man, some princess figure etc that can pull off various expressions?

This is just as weak as the societies from whatever that Detergent movie is.

3.

>>
>>93773178
it's just a shirt
>>
>>93773127
It's only bad if you're doing shit that can hurt yourself. But trying to get into the head of a character is hardly wrong if you want to perform them well. But yea, needing to "practice" for a role with little to no lines, much less trying to make something that anyone can do "more believable" is quite silly.
>>
>>93771279
I do want to take a moment to admit, that when the movie was announced and the very first images were released, I bitched a lot about the design for "meh" being off and not a good representation of the meh face or emotion at all. And I now appreciate that at least the film sort of recognizes that and meh being off is perhaps actually intentional and a core part of the plot.

I suspect that some of the stuff that seems to be inconsistencies now will actually be explained in the movie, like >>93772602.

But that doesn't excuse the fact that this is still going to be an incredibly shallow and formulaic film with a stupid, uninteresting, and forced premise.
>>
>>93772326
>Not dead, just unprofitable.
Zootopia and the first WiR were pretty creative and made money. Inside Out made money. Despicable Me 1 made money. Secret Life of Pets, Sing, both of which were also original ideas, made money.

Original ideas can still make money. A lot, in fact. I know reboots and sequels are all the rage, but they aren't the ONLY rage.

>The finger is always just off screen, even out of sight for the other characters
>When he walks away in full sight, others comment on it like he's being an asshole

>>
>>93773252
I mean I wouldn't have minded if it was a one time thing, because I did learn how to more effectively dig (they had me digging up pre-buried bones on stage and through the span of the scene I needed to make sure I could dig up 2 skulls on queue), but it was kind of ridiculous to come to rehearsal only for it to be "alright graveboy you know your lines, go dig in the pit."

Wasn't that the method acting was bad, simply that it seemed excessive.

Still one of my favorite roles though desu.
>>
>>93771279
don't see it. plain and simple
>>
>>93773363
Just saying. It's weird how some people out there seem to hate the concept even though the idea of understanding the role on such a level is how you make the best performance, not just knowing how to say the lines without being a ham or flubbing them.
>>
>>93773312
But that doesn't negate that they're still original ideas not based on a previous installment or franchise and still made money.

If the argument is "I'm tired of sequels" even if that means not having Toy Story 4 which will probably be a thousand times easier than Sing, then we need to acknowledge things that ARE original in the industry right now.

Free Birds, Nut Job, Escape from Planet Earth, Planet 51, Hotel Translyvania, Turbo.

A person's definition of "creative" varies, so you can't say that creativity is dead in Hollywood because someone might say Zootopia was creative the other will just shitpost with, "It's furry town, nothing creative about that".

A lot of the people who currently don't like what's in theaters right now are just very hard to please people who can't find something that suits their niche needs.

Remember

Ralph 2 was made because Rich Moore fucking loves the universe he created and wanted to immediately make more

Incredibles 2 is being made because Brad Bird finally has all his shit together for the story he's wanted to tell for years.

Toy Story 4 is being made because it's a special one off idea that was too good to pass up

Frozen 2 is being made to appease shareholders and sell Elsa dolls, just like Pixar's Cars. This one I can't defend.

I'm going to say it's timing rather than dead creativity.

Fuck you, there's no idea good enough to warrant a sequel after the finale that was Toy Story 3. The main reason they're making a Toy Story 4 is because it does well in the box office and is probably one of Pixar's biggest cash cow in terms of merchandise. It's the same reason Cars got two shitty sequels despite being Pixar's shittiest creative property.

Well for one thing, they've really affected how we interact socially. Sure, we can talk to more people at a time now but I'd imagine the quality of the interactions are a lot more poor compared to face-to-face communication. Though this can fall under the umbrella of social media too since they both encourage quantity over quality in a lot of cases.

It's so convoluted on a basic level. In Wreck it Ralph, people got on Ralph's case not because he was a good guy but because he wanted be the good guy role in his own game. In the Lego movie, Emmett was considered put down because every Lego character has a role that encompasses their lives and personalities, so it they can't control who they are.

Here, with the Emoticons, most of the characters have the ability to consciously act out of their roles which consist of making a face for a few seconds then going back to their own business.

Did they not think the basics of this story through?

>>93771279
So yknow what? At least they're KINDA trying. I've seen some bad movies, some really bad movies that DON'T try (animated titanic anyone?).

Even though this premise is retarded, fucking stupid, and I can't imagine anyone watching this without rolling their eyes a little, they still got me interested in the stupid story and now I kinda wanna see it...Don't guarantee I'll pay money to but I'll probably still see it.

I mean, I liked Boss Baby (it's still entirely retarded bur I WAS entertained and not entirely in a bad way).

I at least want to know what he ends up fucking up by not being good at his job but this makes me wonder. Do you have to be born into the job? Or do you just sorta start existing once someone designs you and installs you into the phone? Like so if a kid downloaded some special cat emojis, would they be in the text city too? Would it be a new personality (Like how this meh face seems to be bad at being meh which implies others might be good at it) or would downloaded ones come with a preset personality?

I'm overthinking this but something like this kinda leads to overthinking.
>>
>>93772175
But where is Zootopia 2?
>>
>>93772175
I'm psyched for that incredibles sequel I just hope it's not overhyped by them waiting this long.

Toy story 3 ended perfectly, there's no reason for this. I'd take a shitty tv series over ANOTHER sequel (UNLESS it's a REALLY GOOD prequel? The toy story team seems the most committed to keeping that magic alive with their sequels at least so there's some hope...Maybe.

Ralph Breaks the Internet huh? Curious what that's gonna be. The universe is pretty unlimited with possibilities so i'm okay with a second swing at this.

Frozen 2, most shameless money grab ever it was announced before the first one was even out of theaters.

But if Elsa gets a girlfriend maybe there will be hot lesbian fanart at least NOT involving her sister since she's at least one of the few disney ladies that's not 13-16
>>
>>93783554
Eh, this is pretty much the bare minimum for most theatrical release 3-D kid movies nowadays. Not sure how you can be interested in the story considering how predictable it will probably end up being. I guarantee you it will end with "just be yourself" with everyone learning they can be whoever they want to be.

Yeah, Unicode made some of these codepoints into emoji. Surprisingly, U+263A WHITE SMILING FACE is an emoji now and U+263B BLACK SMILING FACE is not. For each emoji, there's a flag (Emoji_Presentation) that decides whether they should display as text (black and white) or emoji (full-colour) by default. U+263A is still text by default, so most programs will display it like that, though some programs (eg. messaging apps) can override the default and always display it as emoji. Also, the user can override it with the emoji variation selectors, so U+263A followed U+FE0F should always use emoji style.

My new setup tried to get rid of them. Any time I typed an Emoticon it auto replaced with some Emoji equivalent. I literally have to go into and manual edit it to make Emoticons now. Thankfully it still accepts Unicode inputs from my root terminal. But given how seldom I use them it is not a big deal for me. But it really makes one stop and question how much preprogrammed automation one wants in life as it is taking my freedom of choice for some convenience.

She's called Jailbreak, so I'd assume she looks so different because she was injected into the phone by an outside force. She has no place she "belongs," which is probably going to tie into Gene's dilemma and give him a choice about whether or not he should conform to the standard or be comfortable with himself. Then there'll be a sudden boss fight with *gasp* the Smiley emoji and everyone learns a valuable lesson after a heartfelt speech from the protagonist.

This movie's plot is so damn transparent.

I wonder... What if emojis that didn't convey specific emotions (like the elephant and ice cream) got heat from the ones that did? If emojis like Meh and Angery have to act like that their whole life, while French Fries and Bomb didn't, that could be interesting.

But then again, it's Sony and Emoji, so I'm not expecting anything challenging or engaging, or good, or fun, or funny, or unique, and so on and so forth.
>>
>>93815563
Not the same guy you were talking to, but Zootopia just doesn't need a sequel at all. The movie just ended off so nicely, creating a whole 'nother movie would just milk it a little too dry.
>>
>>93804502
Go to a theater you don't mind being banned from, then go to a movie that ends a little before this one starts. Hang out in the bathroom after the first movie, then come out and go to the second. Make sure that you don't get two movies in different wings, if the theater is like that.

Zootpia could have more messages about inclusion and we haven't even resolved the relationship between Nick and Judy which is a perfect opportunity for interaccial message.
