By punishing defenders as well as agitators you send a clear message; Run and contact a teacher. Now that doesn't sit well, It leaves a bad taste but legally it makes sense.

Now the teacher can make a judgement call, go by what they know about you and think yeah, you are probably trustworthy. The bullies in my school very deliberately picked on people and got in trouble.
The assholes in my school were passive-aggressive and condescending which wasn't helped by their parents sticking their thumbs into the school budged (it was a generational and VERY devout Protestant institution with nepotism up the ass). They weren't trying to be jerks, it's just how they were.
Hell, even some of the teachers fostered the "holier than thou" mentality. I remember one of my best friends got into Harvard, but took a lesser-known college because it suited his future better, and the school laid him the fuck out because it was one less person they could say went to an Ivy League.
And the nerds? They were a trail mix of shit. They actively went after people to pick on and beat up (no joke, this one landwhale suckerkicked me in the nuts twice for fun), and even when they didn't, they were a collage of arrogance, put-downs, and bad hygiene.

I was a loser in highschool, but when I got to Uni I cleaned up my act, lost 10kg and started dressing right.

The boost in confidence itself is amazing before you even factor in the added mental health benefits and increased memory that come with living healthy.

Plus career wise you'll always do better than the dude in the ill-fitting suit who doesn't smell quite right even if he knows 10 times more than you.

Worst film shoot I've ever been on was headed by a guy with good looks. Awful producer who made everyone shoot late nights in the worst parts of Philly and fucked with the schedule so we were constantly rearranging shit, everyone was miserable, and his annoying as shit sister did make-up.
