It was okay, nothing special. It'll probably be forgotten in about six months. If you have a big nostalgia boner for the games it might have a bit more impact, but otherwise it scrapes by at 'could be better'.

>>
The way I keep hearing people talk about the animation I was expecting utter garbage. Yeah it's not as fluid as I'd like it to be but it looks more than serviceable. As for the story, moving Lisa's life and death right up next to CV3 just makes me want to root for fucking Dracula. Aslo, I can't believe they kept the goat fucking anecdote.
>>
>>93737304
>>93737319
Why scatter discussion over multiple threads and unnecessarily push threads off the board though? Especially on /co/ where people are storytiming

>>93737441
What is the goat thing from? Is it a reference to something in Castlevania?
>>
Well the next season will probably be coming out in six months so it'll probably be the opposite of forgotten.
>>
>>93736989
So, you like to watch Castlevania
>>
>>93737521
No, it's just something Ellis wrote about on the old-ass fucking blog for this from a million years ago. The blog is long dead but this article has the entirety of what was posted there. I forgot that IGA was involved with that draft, so I guess most of what we got has/had his blessing.

Given the Metal Gear movie seems to be finally happening, Netflix definitely needs to have some sort of easter egg for watching both.

Netflix can afford to toss money around, also tons of people have it so it's an easy place to consolidate all those viewable projects which were going to die.
Do we know anything about the Metal Gear movie and if it's even live action or animated? I can accept the latter.
>>
>>93738992
We already know that it's going to be 8 episodes. The show was written as 3 movies, which have been split up into 4 episodes each. The first "movie" was season 1 while movies 2 and 3 are season 2.

Oh no.

I'm simply pointing out that we can clearly see through your attempt to disguise seething contrarianism beneath moderation, because it's become so commonplace that it's no longer subtle enough to be convincing.

For example, the cynical jab at "nostalgia boner" really gives off that low-key venomous passive-aggressiveness that's typical of contrarian hipsterdom in a pretty blatant way. A few years ago it might have come off as a honest observation on your part and be taken seriously, but nowadays people pick up on that shit right away because the "it was okay BUT *snarky remark about current trends*" format has become very widespread in the contrarian scene.
So you're gonna need to come up with a new strategy real soon if you want to still be the edgiest kid on the block, because
-rabid hostility
-ironically excessive praise
-disdainful rejection
-dismissively moderate enjoyment
are all pretty much played out.

To get historical about it, Wallachia wouldn't have had too many Muslims at the time (though nearby Poland might have, it was kind of crazy multicultural for a long time) because they were basically associated with the Turks whom the Wallachians were kinda sorta constantly at war with.

Why did this look so western? You can tell they were going for an anime-esque look and the designs themselves do look like that but something about the directing, the framing of the shots or the animation itself made it abundantly clear that it's not anime.
But I can't point my finger at what exactly the reason is.
>>
>>93745700
I felt it too, but I don't know why. I feel like there are subtle design differences that people who actually have done anime for a living would never do. Certain proportions or the way faces are drawn and such. Because I feel like if this actually were made in Japan, it would just look like Attack on Titan.

>>
>>93745679
He said he's still following the stuff laid down by the source material but in his own way, whatever that means. I can't really think of much he can change since the source material itself barely had a story. Trevor and friends go to the castle and fuck Dracula's shit up. Trevor and Sypha get married which in turn makes the future Belmont strong as fuck, Alucard goes to sleep and Grant just fucks off. I just hope he doesn't fuck it up.

>It was okay, nothing special.

It's not a 10/10, yeah, but being the best game too film/show adaptation ever made is a little special, OP. It did exactly what every adaption should do but always fails in:
>takes the existing story everyone is generally familiar with and expands on it and its characters
They didn't add their own overpowered OCs(donutsteel) to come in and save the day. They didn't make it a stupid comedy and overly silly just because it's connected to videogames. They didn't drastically change the setting and/or tone down the themes of the story for "broad appeal". They made it with excitement for the IP, not cynicism. You can disagree with how they characterized the Belmont and a few other nitpicks, but you can't deny a LOT of care went into this, which is unheard of considering what a low-awareness IP Castlevania is these days.
All in all, it seems they were legit trying to make a story/show out of this, while somehow not breaking everything we know about the games.

after many years I think I got it. aside from obvious proportional differences, I think the main thing is the lack of emphasis on secondary animation, and ease in ease out on western's part. while the east has a lack of squash and stretch, and anticipation. another would be western goes for more comic-like (shot variations, real time movement) shots while anime goes for more cinematografic story-telling (angles, pans)
quite intruiging these cultural differences

Actually they can't throw around money.

It's one of the man reasons why Netflix canceled pretty much all of their SJW original programing save for HoC and OITNB; they were bleeding money on original programing no one gives a fuck about and losing subscribers, who were starting to catch on towards the fact that Netflix was slowly letting all of their back catalog laps in favor of being 100% original programming.

The one on the left is an ok design, it's mostly the anatomy that's completely fucked up. If he was drawn like an actual human being and not a monster, it would be an acceptable outfit.

The one on the right is fetish gear.

Fuck ups: Turning Trevor from a young and inexperienced hunter into GoT ripoff to appeal to retards who think all protagonists should thirty somethings

Le ebil Church when the Church has little involvement in the series aside from sending Belmonts and other agents to fight demons and monsters

Making Dracula sympathetic. Dracula was never meant to be sympathetic, he's shown to be a part of the natural order of life. Evil and Good and the eternal struggle. Even though his origin is tragic, he uses underhanded and vile means to become what he is and fully embraces his role as the ruler of darkness

Some fags like this but excessive violence gets boring as fuck after a while.

Story lags like a motherfucker but I heard it was originally meant to only be a movie.

Still, as far as most game adaptions go, it was decent.

It was okish. It needed more than 4 episodes.

I liked the violence, blood and monsters. Especially since Netflix didn't have to self censor. Kinda surprised they didn't go for any nudity or sex though. Especially since excessive nudity/sex seems to be the new go to thing for new IPs to stand out.

I really hope they get the second season out fast. A year long delay WILL kill all interest in the show.

If not that, I fully expect them to have the lead and 'whats her name' hook up at some point before the end of the season. Something like spending the night together before finally facing Dracula.

But yeah, I was also expecting tons of nudity in season 1. Netflix is really hyping this up as their answer to Game of Thrones. (A show that boarded on softcore with the sheer amount of sex they had in the first few seasons)

Frederator had the writes for years and years, since 2008, if I remember right, but had trouble financing the project and finding a distribution method for it. Netflix approached them a couple years back and bankrolled the project because they see demand for it, whereas networks didn't. So Frederator hired a videogame company from Texas to handle the animation, and here we are. The anime aesthetic is, word of God, because Castlevania is a Japanese IP.
It was made available in multiple languages so it could be viewed in various countries, so Netflix can make a profit from it and keep the show going.
The way I see this, is it's picking up where Spawn left off nearly 20 years ago and is an attempt to make an animated program for adults that isn't just dick and drug jokes told by paper dolls moved around in flash.

The church wasn't evil. The bishop and his hired thugs given positions were. This is spelled out for you when Trevor asks for a priest who can make holy water and it works.

Sympathetic Dracula is great. Let's you understand him while not rooting for him.

Violence is excessive, yes, but I believe it should be that way when fighting monsters.

I'm guessing you've never been in a fight. So when the adrenaline is running and you're really going at it your body is going full blast. A minute of sustained fighting will leave you fighting for breath, sap your energy, is mentally demanding.

He rushes forward about a minute, while making precise movements to make headshots, and then does around forty five seconds of hand to hand combat. He should be quite tired going through that hallway. Would have spent much less energy taking a knee and scoring headshots from the end of the hallway.

Vampire Killer might sound a bit goofy, but Trevor's theme song Beginning would've been fine. Good recognizable melody that could be adapted without being overbearing.

A slower version of this with lighter instrumentation would fit in quite nicely.

Grant is pretty useless though. This Trevor already has the whole rouge like skills in his arsenal. Grant was never important to the overall story anyway. Cauchon never got the proper approval to conduct the trial, and conducted it against established canon law. It was never a proper ecclesiastical trial.

Tell me exactly how a Jihadist could defend the invasion of Christian Spain as "defensive".
>>
>>93761892
The diffrence with castlevanias protrayal is the bishop was a dick and the crusades where a military endeavor using religion as a pretext because at the time the church had a bunch of sway in politics and other decisions and they would not move a fucking inch when the enemy was knocking at theyr fucking door.

Like your picture. Look. Maybe not when the Muslim invasions first started, but certainly there are Muslims today who would somehow justify the extremism they see such as Hamaas and shit. I didn't come here to argue fucking religion. That's my point. I came here to talk about a bitchin' anime based off of a game I love and have played the FUCK out of. I was merely pleased to see another atheist. We are so few, and all, except here on boards like /b and others. You can't see the atrocity and fuck ups in logic of your religion, because you're IN your religion. You didn't argue the Jihad or Scientology because they were fucked to you, but as soon as I mention the Crusades, you get defensive. Christianity has done plenty of shit in its time, some of which was burning people. That's fact. This anime depicts that. It's not absurd. And it fits the plot, the source, and history. So fuck off about it.
>>
>>93761990
>they would not move a fucking inch when the enemy was knocking at theyr fucking door.

That was the Reconquista, anon.

The Crusades started when the Muslims started harassing Pilgrims and the Pope saw it as an opportunity to reconcile with the Orthodox.
>>
>>93762152
>You can't see the atrocity and fuck ups in logic of your religion, because you're IN your religion.

No, I can't see them because too many of the alleged "atrocities" are either exaggerations or inventions.
>>
>>93762152
>You didn't argue the Jihad or Scientology because they were fucked to you, but as soon as I mention the Crusades, you get defensive. Christianity has done plenty of shit in its time, some of which was burning people.

Because Scientology, Jihad, and the crusades are three different things, you dumb cunt. You cant blanketly condemn all religious controversies as the same thing.

Most people burned by the church were political subversives who threatened social stability and safety.

No I refuse to be the whipping boy of people.

You can fuck right off with that the only defensive part was the crusades themselves.
>Christianity has done plenty of shit in its time, some of which was burning people
Fucking protestants!Other executions during the time the church had power was because of the law.

>>
>>93762288
Grant. Ellis didn't rule him showing up completely, and Death is more likely to be the endboss of the next four episodes assuming it's still going to do the whole three movies/twelve episodes fomat.
>>
>>93762288
You can't argue for shit you're just looking for gotcha's.
>>
>>93762329
Ooooh. I'd fucking love to hear the dialogue between Death and Alucard on meeting. It was already great in its minimalistic format in the game. To expand upon that could be AWESOME. Grant's cool and all, but I'd rather see Richter be the BOSS that he is. I mean, theoretically, he could defeat Galgamoth with JUST the Vampire Killer. I mean, I didn't do that...But you COULD.
>>
>>93762288
Death because grant wont be in the show.
>>
>>93762400
Apparently, Grant has been proposed BY Ellis, according to some anons in here. So I'd bet Grant's coming soon.
>>
>>93762400
He didn't say he won't be in the show, just that he won't be in the first part. He talked about the changes he'd make to him such as calling him Dinesti instead of DaNasty and no longer making him a pirate if he did include him, which implies he's going to show up after all.
>>
>>93762439
So what will he be? Maybe part of a small group of humans who tried to work for Dracula instead of getting killed by him?
>>
>>93762439
Oh. That's different from what I thought. I redact my previous post: >>93762418
>>
>>93762459
Thief probably. Unless he wants to make it classy, maybe a lock smith that lost his wife and broke into draculas house, got cursed and turned into a monster.
>>
>>93745059
30000 was the actual number I think. The rest of the turk army saw them all impaled and said fuck this and went home.
>>
>>93762439
They kept the part with the Cyclops and the Sypha statue so most likely they'll have the part where Trevor gets deeper into the castle, fights a demon and it turns into Grant afterwards.
>>
>>93762518
Something liked they marched past a couple miles of it, then noped the fuck out of there. How Glad came to power was pretty harass too. Invited his whole traitorous family to dinner. Slit the throats of the heads of family and put the rest into slavery and hard labor.
>>
>>93762541
This sounds plausible. Nice spotting, anon. That's IF he keeps it all as tight as he seems to have been.
>>
>>93751350
so we are three. it warms my heart.
i only played Lords of Shadow
>>
>>93745059
At that point they were a vassal state paying tribute to the Ottoman Empire after Vlad got betrayed like 18 times.
>>
>>93762586
The first Lord's of Shadow was pretty good. A few wonky cameras and strange pacing. Good twists. Combat ripped STRAIGHT from God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. Overall enjoyable, though. I demand you play Symphony of the Night or any of the handhelds, however. You've only touched the reboot. Also, LoS 2 was pretty sub par honestly. Could have been a LOT better.
>>
I was more of a Metroidvania person and the only classic Castlevanias I played was Bloodlines and a bit of Dracula X. Never played any of the games with Trevor in them unless PoR's fake Trevor counts but I enjoyed the show a lot.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/02/09/first-time-warren-ellis-wrote-castlevania-animation-ten-years-ago/
Here's the article I was talking about earlier. He said Grant wouldn't be showing up with respect to this film, but that's not keeping him from showing up altogether.
On a side note it's interesting just how little of what we got changed from the original plans despite being established 10 years ago. Wonder when this show actually went into formal production.

It's a remake of Rondo of Blood that's more faithful than the version the SNES got which was renamed Dracula X, it also contains the pc engine original version of Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night as hidden unlockables

No problem, anon. Happy to share my love of the series with anyone. You won't regret playing prereboot titles, but be warned Castlevania 1 through Super Castlevania IV are hard as fuck. True platforming, quick reaction, difficult shit. As well as cheap deaths (looking at you, bats and Medusa heads.) So the most enjoyable are the Metroidvania titles like Symphony of the Night or the Gameboy/DS titles. Have fun, anon!
>>
>>93762789
Is there any good way to play this without a PSP or is emulation the way to go?
>>
>>93762816
Emulation is it if you don't have a psp, ppsspp is apparently pretty good to use
>>
>>93762816
If you have a PS3, you can buy Symphony of the Night for like $5-$10 as well. Just so you know.
>>
I still feel sad Drac killed so many innocents in his rage. He's just going to get hated more by the villagers and it's gonna turn into a shitfest.

I wonder if Alucard feels the same.
>>
>>93762791
i was thinking on trying those. especially dracula's curse. appreciate it
>>
>>93762914
Alucard would have slaughtered villagers too if his mother hadn't told him not to hate the humans for burning her alive.
>>
>>93762883
More importantly, the PSN version has the original voice acting. Though the voice acting and dialogue in the re-dub are very good in their own right, Alucard being voiced by Yuri Lowenthal aside.

>>
>>93763594
Yeah. I love that the Alucard Sword is absurdly long. It seems very sleek and finesse-like and elegant, like I'd expect a vampire to wield. Where was his shield, though?
>>
>>93763725

I think he's beyond the temptation of his hordes. I would bet succubi throw themselves upon him, receiving bitchslaps often. Lisa loved science and had a thirst for knowledge. Grant Danasty.

Given that they seem to be incorporating bits of lore from other Dracula related media, as well as the historical Dracula, perhaps they could make Grant a deposed Wallachian noble with a bone to pick with Dracula, given that the Danesti and Draculesti families were the two most influential families in Wallachia, and shared a common ancestor.

Make him a foil or parallel to Trevor; both are the last sons of their families; Trevor, of the House of Belmont, and Grant of the House of DaNasty/Danesti, and whom would have plenty of reasons to hate Dracula. Trevor hates him because of the long history his family had slaying him every time he'd rear his head, and Grant would hate him because his family suffered simply because they were related to the monster, however distant said relation was.
>>
>>93765391
Sounds solid to me, anon. Go work for them.
>>
>>93765391
IIRC his original backstory was that Dracula killed his family and he was leading a group to stand up and rebel against Drac. I think the Danestis and Draculestis were some sort of rivals though, maybe his family was purged by Dracula a while before he met Lisa.
>>
>>93738108

1: Some of the bigger, scarier bosses from previous games. Like Beelzebub, Legion, Grim reaper, or Shaft.

2: More monsters in general. Crazy skeletons, flea-men, succubi, stitched together corpse monstrosities, maybe the odd axe-hurling knight or fire breathing bone tower.

3: Alucard's shapeshifting, the wolf and bat forms were some of the most fun upgrades from Symphony of the Night, and it'd be awesome to see those on screen.
