So can we all agree that this was a terrible movie and Marvel needs to stop trying to take over IPs they clearly can't handle

>Iron Man appears in over half the movie

>Villain's motivation is extremely shallow like all other American 'muh family' characters

It was kinda an Iron Man movie, they overused Iron Man way too much and even RDJ said it.

I disagree, I enjoyed the part when Spidey drop kicked the guy off the boat, was happy that Tony Stark had less than 16 minutes of screen time and was happy they made sure to keep Spidey's villain grounded. MJ I couldn't care less about. All in all I give it an 8/10, they could have used more Spidey action and less Peter Parker and the final fight needed some work on the visuals, but beyond that I loved it.

Also
>can we all agree
Haha no, where do you think you are?
>>
>>93730114
>16 minutes of screentime

Not sure if in the bank Scene he punch in the boat scene he kick a couple of times but doesn't need to the action scenes are ok
>Villain's motivation is extremely shallow like all other American 'muh family' characters
I really like the Vulture, the car scene is weak but overall good character well writen

It's a comparison, both Joker and Ironman were plastered all over the poster and trailers for the Homecoming and suicide squad movies, and both were in said movies for less than 16 minutes.

Of course you'd know that if you werent, in all likelihood, a shitposter from /tv/. Maybe you should go back.
>>
>>93730484
What makes you think vulture is well written
He's all over the place, he's like half psychopath and half family man.
What is his motivation really? He lives in a mansion so why is he so desperate to steal more shit? He accidently kill one of his henchmen with no second thought, but forgives Peter for fucking him over multiple times despite him knowing about his criminal activities.
>>
>>93729536
>between the Twin Towers

w-what? Is this an official poster?
>>

He never really does anything psychopathic though. When when he accidentally roasts a guy he goes "Oh shit whoops" because he picked up the wrong thing.

What an easy movie this was, literally no stakes or danger, bland villain with shit motivation, constant mention of SAME UNIVERSE GUYS, action scenes were boring, cringy dialogue, shit score and no interesting character in this flick.
At one point that nigress MJ says something like: why should I celebrate a statue build by slaves? or something like that, jesus christ. I'm gonna rewatch Spider-man 1 and 2 to wash away the taste of blandness

All I'm saying is this is not a guy that he liked, who just betrayed his trust and threatened to ruin his life. I don't think it's necessarily means he's a lunatic just because he didn't have a immediate, strong, apparent emotional reaction to accidentally frying the guy, especially when he seems like a rather taciturn individual.

I'm not saying he's a good person, but that scene doesn't necessarily speak to his mental health.

My favorite Spider-Man movie by far. High school life wasn't just a set piece it was a part of the character and played a big role. All the gadgets were good. The fat fuck I didn't think I was gonna like was hilarious, "Uhhh... Porn."

An opinion, they were definitely trying to make Zendaya not look incredibly attractive however. And I just have to generally disagree Zendaya is incredibly cute. I think she'll do a great job as MJ.
>Spider-Man doesn't punch or kick anyone
Pretty sure he kicked people, but no punches come to mind so I guess. But hes Spider-Man, I'm okay with him using his web powers a lot I think that stuff is really cool.
>Villain's motivation is extremely shallow like all other American 'muh family' characters
This part I'll slightly agree with you. It does to seem to be an overused trope but other then that as a reason to become the Vulture and do his villain shit I thought the character was well done.

Overall I agree on most points but I guess those points don't worsen the movie for me, are even points I enjoyed the movie for. Definitely my new favorite Spider-Man.

My major complaint is that Marvel is too busy trying to push jokes in favor of narrative. It works in Guardians but not every fucking movie needs to be a comedy goldmine. It is making all the movies blend into one another and it hampers the plot and tone. That scene at the end in the bathroom took to fucking long, the Ned sperging out took far too long. Penis Parker was stupid dumb shit and was not clever.

great Spider-man scenes
terrible, terrible peter parker scenes
I don't even care about Flash being brown, I just can't look at some scrawny kid as the school popular bully. I'm surprised no one just smacked his face or told him to fuck off. If he was jut going to be Peter's academic rival who's too high strung sure, but that's not the case
Them going on about how everyone wants to fuck Peter's Aunt is creepy. Yeah, the actor is pretty hot, but I can't stop thinking of Aunt May as an old granny even when I see this one on screen.
Most of the school humor was cringy. That's fine once in a while, but most Peter scenes are just something embarrassing and it's hard to watch
Michelle and Ned were really cliche characters, especially Michelle.
Ned kind of works since he as an actual character arc
but Michelle is like a character we're expected to like but what if you don't!? The MJ reveal was also dumb, kind of an annoying fake out. Should have just said she was supposed to be MJ instead of doing this.

Also, the "You're Shocker now" thing was just what the fuck? Was that suppose to be a joke? We just saw him die onscreen. I'm okay with black humor, but that didn't fit.
>>

>>
>>93738666
>but was the "MJ" thing really necessary?
No. No it wasn't and anyone who gives a shit about the character will agree with me. Same with Flash. His journey from Peter's bully to Peter's friend, to coma patient, to gym teacher, to war hero, to Venom. Anyone who disagrees doesn't read comics and therefore opinion is moot.

>>93738760
>We can all accept good changes like what they did with Vulture
.The only reason I'm giving him a pass is because Michael Keaton is baller and I've never seen the Vulture get his due in comics. And no, Slott's rendition doesn't count. And neither does the iteration found in Spider-Man: The Animated Series because his entire shtick was tied to stealing youth and god knows that didn't occur in this movie.

As much as I despised this movie, yeah. I agree. Vulture was the best part of this movie aside from being a freaking sociopath. He literally killed one of his teammates he had known for a minimum of 8 years and displayed zero reaction. Not saying that's a bad character move, but anyone who says he was relatable is a fucking psychopath.

I was actually disappointed because I was expecting a Marvel movie. Looking at what the did with Ant man and GoTG I was disappointed that this was the best the could come up with to start Spider-Man's journey considering it has better source material than the Avengers.

think about this. He gave job to the guy for who knows how many fucking years despite his lack of puntuality, his lazyness and his knack for disobeying his orders (put this stuff around here, try to lay low and don't shoot in the open).

And when he fires the guy (he doesn't even menace him with doing something, he just fires him and tells him to grab his stuff) Bryce menaces his family. To tell the cops about his business. A guy like this more than likely would also try to use his family as leverage.

So he gets the ray gun mixed with the antigravity gun and ends up frying the guy. Although he's cold about it it was no less than what the guy deserved.

Unless he keeps the training wheels protocol or whatever it was called, he's going right back to having a sentient suit that does all the thinking for him. Nigga I don't know how long you've been out of high school, but bullies aren't big dudes who shove people into lockers anymore. They don't let people get away with that shit in anywhere but absolute shithole schools.
Bullies today are just cunt kids with inferiority complexes, or rich spoiled kids who think they can treat others however they want.

I had a "bully" in middle school who was a complete fag that would make fun of me for wearing cheap clothes, Flash Thompsons don't really exist anymore.
That's why I think the movie was well-modernized. Not because it made everybody le diverse, but because the bully was actually how bullies are these days, and Peter had a crush on a smart girl who he actually knew instead of some random bimbo.

It was a great movie, and only really had a few plot issues.

Like;
Peter calling Liz and Flash by their names while dressed as spider-man, neither one thinks this is weird.

The plane carrying some of the most valuable shit leaving Avengers tower, including magic shit and actual iron man armor was totally unguarded, when tony can remotely control armor from anywhere with an internet connection?

Aside from that, totally solid.

Physical bullies in all but the most shithole schools only get away with shit by being both fast and stealthy with anything they do.

It's extremely scarce compared to decades ago.
>>
>>93741817
Yeah, but it's not in the middle of school hallways and it's not at magnet schools, at least not nearly as much. Plus, I don't want to watch Flash beat up Peter again. They did a lot to make this movie different than the others and I appreciate it. Besides, Flash beating the shit out of Peter is for the sake of showing Peter's changes when he gets his powers. He's already got his powers here, there's no need for that character.
>>
>>93741740
Could have pooped in front of his locker.
>>
>>93741832
Teacher asks her if she is gonna go up it with the other kids.
She tells him something like how she doesn't really feel like gawking at something that was built by slaves.

That's it.

It comes after a trail of her being snarky the whole movie, so it's the sort of thing you'd expect from her. If it wasn't that complaint she would have said no for some other reason because she's pretty much a non-conformist.
>>
>>93741608
Highschool football still exists though. Popular athletic guys still exist. They are still the top of the high school food chain. So why couldn't they keep Flash a football star who just bullies Peter more verbally as opposed to putting him in a locker?
>>
>>93741883
So why does Peter like her, other than that she's attractive?
>>
>>93741886
Because they wanted to make the bullying experience more relatable to modern kids, and the most common bullies now are just general douchebags.
>>
>>93741912
They don't have a relationship yet. She's not his love interest in the movie. You should watch the movie.
>>
>>93741912

>>
>>93741832
She doesn't really sperg out at anything the whole movie, she kind of just deadpans it. The sense I got was that she messes with social justice stuff as part of a larger theme of her just doing things because she's bored. For instance, she sits in the detention hall without actually having detention, to draw sketches of people in crisis.
>>

What >>93741913 said. Peter Parker is all about giving youngsters a superhero to relate to, that was his whole original appeal. He was a high school kid who had problems and got bullied and couldn't do his homework or talk to girls.
Anything you can do to make him more relateable to your average high school student, you better do.

That's fair. But this movie did well with me just because of how much of the normal Spider-man retread it skipped or walked around.

20 minute intro of getting powers/Using powers for money/Death of Ben - Skip. No one said Ben the whole movie I think, thank you!
Redhead bombshell used as fetish bait the whole movie without even having a personality? Skip.
Green Goblin/Harry and Oscorp? Skip!

Typical MJ would have dragged this movie kicking and screaming into being typical.

A portion of the interior was composed of commemorative stones shaped and designed by states and groups submitting them. Some of those came from slave labor.

This isn't something worth fighting over. Slave labor was a contribution to the construction of the washington monument, and it does not in any way discredit the work of the engineers, architects, and other stone masons who worked on it. It's just a fact that people have to accept.

To a young non-conformist, even part of the construction being related to slave labor is enough.

The same reason people are buying less diamonds. There are a ton of skilled people in the diamond industry, creating a product, or creating consumer art.

Still, blood diamonds. People are dying, or being kept in terrible poverty, because of their craft.

So screw diamonds. I don't have to 'respect the others involved' while the diamond industry still allows blood diamonds to be a thing. I don't owe them anything.

Same with the Washington Monument. Who cares about the architects and engineers, this isn't a contest. It benefited from slavery, it is slavery tainted.

'woke' characters are always 'correct but wrong'. That's the whole stereotype there.

Clearly you guys aren't Black, because this is a character trope that goes back through all Black media.

You have street knowledge, the people who know enough to work in the real world.
Then you have 'woke' people, who wear a dashiki, can't have any conversation without bringing up slavery and masons, and everyone rolls their eyes at them even if they bring up a 'fact' because none of what they say actually matters to the real world.

Go watch Boyz n the Hood or something.

>I think she was pretty fucking flat, generic, and whateverable in the other adaptations
It seems like whomever writes for Spidey outside of comics have very little understanding of the source material 90% of the time.

To answer your question; comic MJ was a very "spunky" girl, but in a completely different sense. She partied and was generally the center of attention in Peter's clique. She rarely added her own two cents to a situation unless it was a dire situation (i.e. Gwen Stacy dying). Around the time she became a supermodel was when she started doing playful banter with everyone a lot more often, but never anything crude like flipping someone off or drawing depressed people to spite them.

The movie MJ is a huge miss from the source material, but I honestly couldn't give a shit. Most of the casting sans Flash was spot on and we finally got a Spider-Man film without the Green Fuckface being shoehorned in.

Funny.
I took my nephews to see it, and the younger one (9) was laughing about that half the trip back to his place.

It could be easily explained, or just lead to Aunt May being a support character. He is already bad at keeping his secret.

I half expect Liz to come back as a villain, because there was the slightest hint she might know what his secret is. (Though Vulture wouldn't have told her, since he is clearly trying to protect her. But she is clearly smart, and could maybe figure out what he did, if she puts it all together)
>>
>>93743130
>she calling herself MJ is sort of a screw to the audience

This is why. It's a hat tip to the audience to let them know where things might be going, after letting them establish their own opinions of the girl without the baggage from the comics.
>>

Just because you have a big house doesn't mean you are financially stable. American's are great at putting themselves in bad financial situations that fall apart if their situation becomes unstable even once.
>>
I gotta wholeheartedly agree with everyone shitting on MJ.

And on the most base level it just bugs me that she's not hot. Like if she was at least as good looking as Liz or better regardless of race I could have let it go aesthetically.

But then her FUCKING PERSONALITY what the fuck were they thinking. I dunno man I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe she'd be better written if they focused on her more (she still wouldn't be hot) but all I can think of that performance is "Le Quirky different kid". That's like right next to "Blue/Pink haired female who will be presented as the mature one in the group" in the list of cliche that need to die.
>>
>>93743445
I'm saying most of those changes were for the better. Who gave a shit about Ned Leeds before this movie came out? Last I remember that fuckboy was strung up by the Jackal and Tarantula back in the 70's. That's how bland and shit his character was.

If this were the comics I'd agree 100% with you. It's important the source material builds on itself without undermining everything it worked on over the years. Someone COULD turn Ned Leeds into a more interesting character if we didn't get bad writers for over a decade, but they don't.

Movies and cartoons aren't important to adaptations. Their influence and power over the main franchise is usually little, and if there is a major shift in tone or writing or characterization, it's usually because one of the better aspects of the movie or cartoon were twisted into the main series in a well-written and fun way.

I promise you Adrian Tombs is still going to be a pedophile, The Shocker will continue to job, and Mary Jane will still be a white supermodel in the comics. Just chill the fuck out and enjoy spotting the differences.

I mean I guess it depends on what school, but when I was in high school all the tough but dumb kids were either looked down on by everyone or generally nice/inoffensive.

The ones who were popular/athletic in addition to being total pricks were generally pretty high up the social ladder.

I'd have liked a Flash who's more accurate in appearance (if only because there's no way this kid is ever gonna be Agent Venom, barring a Pratt-Tier physical transformation), but changing him from "dumb-as-bricks jock" to "snobby faggot who throws his dad's money around and pretends to be a hype DJ" works pretty goddamn well in a modern context.

My hope is that in the next movie (or I guess Infinity War, since that comes first), we learn that Peter basically jailbroke the Stark suit to align it to his own needs.

No needlessly confusing web combos, no Karen distracting him, maybe keep the useful shit like web wings, thermal vision, and Droney/Spider Tracers. Then he could add in a few modifications of his own, like making it waterproof or synching the audio relays up to his iPod or a police band or something like that.

So you get a lovely little thematic thing where the suit ends up a metaphor for his superhero career; Stark tried to make him into a little Iron Man, but Pete went his own way; nothing wrong with a little help now and again, but in the end he's gotta rely on himself and himself alone.

This was my biggest issue. He's only punished for the ferry but not for everything else. He almost gets expelled for skipping a quiz bee but he and Ned get away with damaging the Washington monument, plus all the collateral damage.

Stark proposing to Pepper was probably a deathflag for Infinity War.

I guess we're all in agreement then.

Senpai there were a number of times in the movie that something should have triggered it.

Yeah he over the shouldered a web at a guy's gun on the ferry but nothing for a building falling on him?
okay

Main Easter Egg I can think of was having Donald Glover in the movie because there was that push years ago to have him be the next Spider-man.

I hope the second movie opens like this:
>Studio Logos
>hard cut to the ending shot of the last movie
>"-UCK?"
>Cue Pete reacting like his aunt just caught him tingling his spidey-senses
>She's freaking out, he feeds her some bullshit about it being a souvenir from the Stark internship
>"Yeah I got the job back and they gave me an old Spider-Man suit as a welcome-back gift, crazy huh?" or something like that
>May buys it and goes to make dinner or whatever
>Peter is super relieved, thinks he totally fooled her
>We then see that May totally didn't buy it, but Peter doesn't know she knows

My favorite kind of Aunt May/Peter dynamic is that quiet understanding. Where May realizes that Peter does what he does for his own reasons and doesn't burden him with her own worries, even if she doesn't like seeing her nephew risk his life. She knows that if he knew that she knew, it'd eat him up inside and just make things more complicated, and he doesn't need that.

It's a more interesting dynamic than "oh golly gee Peter is late for dinner again oh look that awful Spider-Man is fighting bank robbers" and Aunt May basically just being his Alfred.

A mother can always tell, but we never seem to realize it until they tell us themselves.

Ohhhhhh yeah, I forgot about that.

He lives in New York though doesn't he? Like, the bronx specifically?

That's a 43% White demographic, 40% Black. And because of the magic of how 'hispanics' are counted, 50+% hispanic.

Everyone keeps saying this, but he still dodges stuff with the speed and precision that only spider-sense would allow.

Just because they didn't do a zoom in WOOBLEDEEWOO and shake the camera doesn't mean he doesn't have spider-sense.

>Why was a construction foreman well-off?
Trade school isn't a joke, anon.

>Implying he and Ned damaged the Washington Monument
SPIDER-MAN damaged the Washington Monument, anon. After a weird alien artifact (that was probably promptly sealed in the Damage Control vault) disabled the elevator.
>>
>>93744108
He does, they just don't call attention to it. He dodges that malfunctioning laser gun on the ferry and Civil War showed him anticipating that thing Bucky threw at him.

They just didn't have a scene where everything goes "VREEEEOOOOOSHHHHEEEEENNNNHHH" while everything slows down to show some shit headed his way.

Don't think so, though she was voiced by Jennifer Connolly.

>I... was... looking at porn...
I chortled.

I could totally get down with this. She's super powerful, and that kind of puts her outside of most people's mental scope of acceptability, and he's powerful but so young his presence is discounted.

I'd like to see these two actually save the day during the Infinity War.

God bless that hotty. I didn't realize that she's married to Paul Bettany

He lives in nyc, a pretty multicultural place, probably the most in the country so i dont think it would be too far for him to have some not white friends

Another factor im not to sure of but what I believe is that he goes to a pretty multicultural school that might be a private school? Im not sure about that because i heard it from another anon but i just say that because theres some parts in nyc that can be all black, all hispanic, all cuban or all jewish. I dunno just trying to say why the schools multicultural

Shit on that negress and any attempt to ship her baboon ass to Peter.

Sony is testing waters, we gotta tell them to fuck off with that shit very clearly.
>>
>>93740103
They better fucking do that.

And I don't even like mary jean or gwen much, Felicia is always going to be the patrician choice.

>>93744195
How hard would be to mind-break May?
>>
>>93744947
C'mon now, anon. Do you think a middle-aged woman walks around in tight skirts just to look nice for the laundry?

She's getting sticky rice pudding on the house REGULARLY. She larbs it.
>>
>>93744917
Sony isn't going to listen to some disgruntled /co/ntrarians.

besides I kinda like her and didn't feige say she isn't mj and honestly who seriously cares about what mj looks like?

He wasn't just threatening Toomes, he was basically threatening the entire crew.

>>93741105
That scene was so odd. Like, nigga, have you seen your boss's suits? They make this shit look like an NES.
>>
>>93743663
That cg was awful in the start for some reason.
>>
>>93746112
