So, if Avengers 1 takes place in 2012 and Homecoming takes place explicitly 8 years later, and two months after Civil War, the MCU is currently in 2020?

It could be a mistake, but that seems hard to do by accident.
>>
I like how the general public will have to start dealing with continuity issues as well. It's a small consolation fof the one year in my teens when it was driving me crazy because I kept insisting on a consistent timeline of some sorts in comics.
>>
>>93693064
They might be trying to compensate for Peter. Cause if they stick to the IRL time like in the past, then by the time MCU Spider-Man 2 comes out, Peter would be a senior, when they are putting emphasis on him being in high school.

This could actually work with Phase 3.

Have Civil War take place in 2019/2020

Guardians 2 is already confirmed to take place in 2014

Doctor Strange begin in 2015 and say the montage took until 2020

Spider-Man Homecoming takes place in 2020

Infinity War Part II is coming in 2020, I believe. This would put the timeline back on IRL time.

Only thing that's fucked is AoS, but Marvel Studios doesn't give a shit.
>>
>>93693106
>Marvel Studios is bringing comics to the big screen
>even the fucked up timeline

Bravo, Kevin
>>
anyone have a visual timeline?

>Only thing that's fucked is AoS, but Marvel Studios doesn't give a shit.

And the Netflix shows. BUT if Marvel Television was smart, they could say the Defenders shows take place in 2021 and that's where Stark Tower went.

And Coulson and crew could've been in space a reeeaally long time.

I'm putting more thought into this than they did.
>>
Doctor Strange fucked with time.
Where's my no-prize?
>>
>>93693239
It'd be useless now.

It was assumed up until the release of Homecoming that each movie took place the year they were released.

If you consider SHIELD canon, then movies took place the day they came out in theaters.

Unfortunately, we have no idea when these movies take place, other than Iron Man in 2008. Even that's fickle, because it was assumed to have taken place in 2009/10 before Civil War, I believe.
>>
>>93693283
Thanos did/will do it. The movies take place in the retconned reality Thanos will create after Infinity War.
>>
Don't think of it as Avengers taking place in 2012. Think of it as Avengers taking place in 2008.

Iron Man takes place in 2008.
Hulk takes place after Iron Man and also in 2008.
However, Iron Man 2 takes place before Hulk.
Immediately after Iron Man 2 (and supposedly immediately after Hulk) is Nick Fury's big week in which the end of Captain America and the entirety of Thor takes place.

Now our heroes aren't just sitting around doing jack shit for four years. Because of this, we can infer that The Avengers only takes place a few months after Cap has been thawed.

So we have
2008:
Jan: Iron Man
Feb: Iron Man 2
March: Hulk
April: Thor
May: Captain America
July: The Avengers
December: Iron Man 3

Then just work from there, I guess. The timeline placement of Thor 2 and Cap 2 don't matter. Avengers 2 can take place in 2014 or 2015.

Then we have Phase 3: Spidey, Civil War, and Doctor Strange all take place in 2016.

Easy as pie.
>>
>>93693299
welp, looks like i'm just gonna stay confused then.
>>
The timeline of Earth and possibly the rest of the universe was altered in a supernatural way that will be explained in (a) future movie(s).
>>
General Ross in Civil War: "For the past four years the Avengers have been..."

okay, so that's confirmation that Avengers is in 2012

Nick Fury in Avengers: "Because of him (points at Thor)! Last year Earth had a visitor..."

okay, so Thor 1 takes place in 2011 then

Coulson in Iron Man 2: "I've been reassigned [...] to New Mexico"

okay, so Iron Man 2 is also in 2011

In Iron Man 2, Ivan Vanko watches news coverage of Tony Stark announcing himself as Iron Man, and then we skip to six months later, so apparently Iron Man 2 is six months after Iron Man 1, which means Iron Man 1 takes place in 2010, or even early 2011...

But then Vision in Civil War: "In the eight years since Tony Stark announced himself as Iron Man"
>>
>>93693299
>Unfortunately, we have no idea when these movies take place
GotG 2 has a splash that says the year is 2014
>>
>>93693350

dude that is not even close to accurate
>>
>>93693064

would it not make more sense to assume that The Avengers takes place only a short time after the events of Iron Man 2, and not in 2012?
>>
>>93693173
>Doctor Strange begin in 2015

Again, he's got some kind of trophy sitting on his watch drawer that clearly has "2016" engraved on the plaque.
2015 is out of the question.

The only people who have it is at Marvel. They have a scroll that they put timeline on, but they make changed when needed. This timeline is not published because it has everything they have agreed on, even stuff that hadn't filmed yet. Only senior staff gets to see the scroll, like recently hired film directors.

The First Avenger, dumb ass

>>93693350
Kevin, my man. I have a script for you to consider for Captain Marvel. It's all about how some alien comes to Stark Tower and pretends to be Happy, and it turns out he's this alien here to prepare this planet for colonization, when his alien people come, they discover that their main man already jobbed to some hippie named Star Lord, Alien Happy kills himself and his back splash falls all (and only on her) Carol Danvers, fade to black.

Mid credit sequence opens in space near the moons of Jupiter, with a voice over saying, my lord, the time coordinates have located us in the precise location of the anomaly and we see Kang's ship materialize over Titan.

Post credit sequence shows Carol in mid-fight with Manlet-Man.

Avengers came out in 2012, but set in 2009
>>
>>93693064
Only phase two (everything after Avengers) is real time, the events of phase one occur simultaneously leading up to Avengers a couple months after Cap wakes up.
Phase 3's timeline is setting up to be just as convoluted as one but it sounds like a time skip in Homecoming may have caught it up.

Isn't cinematic universe is like 50 years in the past according to events?
>>
>>93693064
People who watch movies hardly care for certain year the event happens. Movies are much like theatre plays, they operate in broader chunks of time like this happens before ww1, that after ww2, and those are during vietnam war etc. It's all they care.
