Russian characters are always fun whether they are bad guys or good guys or something in between.
And it helps that the soviets had a great and memorable aesthetic, plus the accent is easy to imitate.
Besides, they don't seem to mind it.

Tbh this one is legit because wasting money to replace one unimportant detail of your uniform is definitely not something russian army cares about, I've seen uniforms from around 2006 and they still had headwear with hammer & sickle on it, ushanka included.
