Is it possible to introduce a new OC with a major role into an already well-established series and not only pull it off successfully, but have them be positively received by the fans? Pic very related.
Reminder that Geno will never be in Smash

As pic related shows it's quite doable. It just needs to be because the story is also expanding into new and different territory and the original character fits the narrative. Bad OCs are ones dropped into the story's existing routine for no good reason.
Hi
They can't make the protag inert unless it's a sequel in which they are the star.
If extremely important/talented: they need an element to knock them down a peg and an arc to overcome, preferably not their arrogance

The overall quality of the product where they debut matters a lot. See also Rosalina for another Mario example.

Which is the case almost all the time.

Giving Rosalina as an example doesn't work.
Rosalina is as popular as it is because in the Mario universe there are only 2 other human princesses, and because she's pretty.
whether the game was good or not it wouldn't have matter for her.

One of the few rare female characters to break this trend.
For some reason you cannot introduce a brand new female OC to an existing series unless she's a remix from a pre-existing character or minority taking the role of someone else.
took a bit to come in during season 2

Do you know what OC means?
