Except Doom's armor is largely already just as good as Tony's. So it's basically a redundant concept since all it is is a visual of Iron Man with a cloak. And hence why there was really nothing going on in the book.

Dr. Doom does not need to become Iron Man. Even if I do not appreciate the modern Bendis, his infamous Ironman is not bad. But it could just be called new Dr.Doom. The reference to Iron Man was utterly useless, as Doom historically uses armor.

Its a crap gimmick trying to keep Doom relevant since the F4 are MIA while using the Iron Man brand in an attempt to sell books. Doom "becoming the new Iron Man" really just lessens him in every conceivable way possible.

The problem was Doom just pops in to see Tony for two pages and then it's like "k thanks bye" and he just goes off to be Doom. Doom being Ironman wouldn't have been so stupid/pointless if the book intentionally contrasted Doom and Tony's character traits, like how Doom is a villain but uses technology for good ruling Latveria while Tony is a hero however he's an arms dealer. Fuck make the idea of replacing Tony in a more literal sense on the Avengers and other teams end up superseding Doom's original goal of simply doing good.

This ENTIRE book boiled down to "yo the sleek iron man suit looks bitchin combined with a big billowy cloak" and "maker banged Doom's mom".

Doom as Iron Man could've been good. Considering the history between Tony and Victor, and the end of Secret Wars, putting Vic as a supporting character in the main Iron Man book and keeping him there for 50 or so issues, would've made for a good story. But, it's Bendis, so...
