Some people wanted to make a cartoon that is clearly inspired by Tales of the Golden Monkey, and Disney made them use Jungle Book characters.

That could be said about a ton of shows in the 90s if we were to look at things ass backwards, which leads me to your answer
It was the 90s, and deviantart was largely influenced by it apparently since it came after

Rescue Rangers is just Magnum PI, Tale Spin is Tales of the Gold Monkey, Duck Tales is...Duck Tales...
Goof Troop was some kind of Lorimar Television styled thing.
All the way into Bonkers being a buddy cop show with a meta narrative.
The Disney Afternoon stuff was all styled after popular TV genres.

As someone who only grew up with Disney movies and not the Disney Afternoon, seeing Shere Khan in a fucking suit was both jarring and hilarious.
"Let's take the Jungle Book and make the characters fly planes!"
Like what if they made cartoons like this for other Disney animal movies? Lady and The Tramp except they're surfers, Oliver and Company except they deliver pizzas, The Aristocats except it's gangsta urban...oh wait, they almost did do that. What the fuck, Disney?

>>

Porco Rosso was released in 1992 but it was a one shot manga during the late 80s.

>>
>>93623070
A lot of Becky's business ideas are really farfetched get-rich-quick schemes.

Which makes her actually a pretty good comedic character in her own right. A lot of female characters had a tendency to have no flaws but Rebecca had a bunch that made the show worth watching.

Baloo was aloof and a lout. Rebecca was a naive, somewhat greedy business woman. Honestly making characters flawed like this works so well and makes you enjoy them more, not less.

It was inevitable.

90s child here. It was a much more innocent time. I grew up on Talespin and other shows like Ducktales and Rescue Rangers. I remember wanting to explore the locations Baloo went to, have a swanky fancy apartment in the city there, hang out at Louie's bar. I think it was the detailed backgrounds that made it feel more real.
>>
>>93624485
Well, Muppet Babies was actually the first one to do this, based on how popular the actual "muppets as little tykes" scene from Muppets Take Manhattan turned out.

It was a huge success and then everyone else imitated it. Shit, even Tazmania aped it with a Baby Taz segment that was purposely calling out everyone for the stupid craze (and then WB made Baby Looney Tunes anywfuckingway...) A Pup Named Scooby doo was the only initial one to actually deliver something decent, but even then it was just more slapstick and over all comedy effects added to the SD formula.

Tiny Toons both is and isn't a part of this trend. It's more of a "Next Generation" kinda deal, which --for all the shit that show gaved to toy-based properties (in particular TMNT)-- it used the *exact* same formula as numerous (read: Most) cartoons did by introducing later new generations of characters. He-Man suddenly had a sister anmed She-ra, Transformers had Rodimus and his new team, new GI Joes, et all.

For Tiny Tunes, it was "these are the newer (better) Toons being taught at school by the older generation."

>Shit, even Tazmania aped it with a Baby Taz segment that was purposely calling out everyone for the stupid craze (and then WB made Baby Looney Tunes anywfuckingway...)

Warner execs wanted Baby Looney Tunes as early as 1988—or rather, they wanted a treacly, unknowingly brand-damaging series about the Looney Tunes as the Muppet Babies with Granny as Nanny.

Tiny Toons was the first staffers who'd been assigned to do it rebelling, refusing to do it, and manipulating Spielberg to allow them to do something that was smarter, not babyish, and only moderately similar in certain ways.

Taz Babies was the second staffers who'd been assigned to do it rebelling and using Taz-Mania to insult it.

Little Go Beep was the third staffers who'd been assigned to do it rebelling and using the character models Marketing gave them, but for a traditional Looney Tune instead of the heartwarming shitstain WB wanted.

Finally Warner told a team to produce the garbage they'd wanted since the start, or get fired. So fifteen years later, they got their shit-ass Muppet Babies ripoff and sure enough, it damaged the popularity of their brand irreparably with everyone over two. It wasn't even very popular with the babies and parents its boosters had insisted it would attract. It only stayed on the air because it qualified as an educational show, and CN had few.

The staffers who hadn't wanted to do it were right all along, but they couldn't save Warner from itself.

I didn't realize this was based on the Jungle Book when I watched it. I feel pretty fucking retarded now.

In all fairness, as a kid I thought taking characters from something and shoving them in a show was just something Disney did. At least that's how I rationalized Chip N Dale RR's.

Damn that's some firepower.

Don't even mention that show, it's the reason why I can't stand even thinking about the Lion King
>>
>>93664274
The availability of digital means to arght made people lazy.
>>
>>93665688
It was the best thing that came out of the Lion King "franchise".

It was total mood whiplash, and I know the movie had comedic scenes, but that wasn't the main focus of the whole thing, unlike this

The environments in this show were really beautiful. Lots of art deco and the tropical aesthetic for places like Louie's were great.

I particularly liked how many of the Cape Suzette buildings look built with durability in mind. With the exception of Becky's apartment, just about every building looks like it could double as an emergency shelter. I guess it makes sense in a world where a bunch of pirates can fly in and start destroying shit.

Probably has more to do with the Art Deco artstyle. On the other hand it's not hard to imagine just about everything being bullet proof when you got pirates with zeppelins.

What did he mean by this?

Don't believe me, try watching scenes from the movie and this show back to back, and tell me they fit together, seriously, I just hate this show for causing such Mood Whiplash

Porco rosso comic was too obscure for disney to notice. Both took from the same sources tho.

recycled character designs, low budget animation, and kids love talking animals.

I'm actually surprised there aren't a shit ton of these shows being produced now.

I always wanted her and Baloo to hook up. I'm one of those faggots who loves romance in my stories. Always miffed that they never hooked up.

Fuck, i'm a colossal faggot.

Steampunk is supposed to look practical too, but the vast majority of "steampunk" you see these days is overdesigned crap that's nothing more thab style without substance. It's not really steampunk, its just cogfop.

10/10 informative post bruh. It's amazing how stubborn those old WB execs can be.
