Peter's parents have a far more prominent role in 616, than they do in 1610 (and it still isn't a huge element). The robots are tied to the Green Goblin, which is where the Oscorp nod came from.

They real Richard and Mary were secret agents and were killed in a plane crash, ordered by Red Skull. All covered in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #5 (pic related), told in... wait for it... 616 continuity, NOT Ultimate Spider-Man.
