His family filed to terminate the sale of copyright for his work( something he wanted to do while he was alive), so Disney/Marvel took them to court arguing that because it was work for hire the copyright was never sold, it belonged to Marvel because he came up with it while working for them.

Went all the way to the Supreme Court, but before the hearing Disney/Marvle settled, they were probably going to win, but if they had lost it would've set a precedent for all the other writers/artists
