Despite being one of those posters, I honestly agree. Disney's habit of airing just 1 or 2 first-season episodes a month may be to blame because I guess that can make the earliest episodes feel like nothing changes ever-- illusion of it being on for MONTHS I guess even though before the plot began it wouldn't even be 2 hours of content-- but complaints like "well obviously this won't have a plot" after episode fucking 1 were ridiculous.

Also I think some expected the show's development to be "Star starts out weak but gets good" and saw her as overpowered Mary Sue early on, even though now its path is clearly "Star starts out strong and seemingly invincible, only to get progressively wrecked."

That said, they did some stuff that even now can't really be overlooked (a bit too episodic when more obvious references to past events could have established there was deliberate continuity even before the plot began, Ludo was used way too often in the pre-Toffee episodes).

What I expected all along. Marco only really knows like 4 locations on Mewni (Butterfly Castle, the ruins of Castle Avarius, the Forest of Certain Death and Lucitor Castle, and he might not even know that Tom's Underworld is part of Mewni) and dimensional scissors seem to only work for opening portals to locations, not to people. Naturally his first stop would be the place where Star actually lives, but with her not being there...a planet is kind of a big place, so knowing Star is "on Mewni" doesn't narrow it down much. It's about like trying to find somebody with your only clue being that they're on Earth.

I've consistently been thinking and saying that that's a retarded assumption. I think it was just some loud minority of retards who spammed their muh team role D&D type adventures headcanons as fact, while the actual majority kinda waited to see.

They're not really clear on this but it seems like you just need to have an clear idea of where you want to go, and that can be "where X is."
Ludo has opened portals right next to Star, without any way of knowing her specific location, driven by his obsession with her and getting the wand.
With the opposite effect, when Star casually opens a portal to just toss Ludo away, it sends him to a void between worlds. She probably didn't have a specific location in mind, she was just tired of his shit and wanted him gone, so he ended up in "the abyss."

If Marco had followed after Star in the heat of the moment, with a strong feeling of somethign like "I need to see her again," he might have gone right to her.
But instead it seems like he made a reasoned decision to follow her some time later, and probably came to the realization that he doesn't know exactly where she is, but reasoned Butterfly Castle was his best bet and chose to go there.

If my theory about how cheek emblems work is right, I think Moon's mother could have clubs (not to say that she's really Heinous or something). Right now I see it as 4 generations of princesses/queens directly in line for the throne have card suits in a row, going Spades-Clubs-Diamonds-Hearts, the next 4 generations have different symbols that can be anything (ex. Solaria, Festivia, Skywynne, maybe Celena, etc.), the next 4 have card suits in the same order. This works out so that Eclipsa, Star's ninth great-grandmother, would of course have the spades and begin a card suit line, while Star, Moon, and Moon's dead mother would be 3/4s of the next line.

Guess this is based off the theory of Star being impacted by the spell, which might not be true. but also just the fact that if the Tapestry Room has the card-suit theming then there are probably more Butterflys in the past who've had those marks than the 4 we know of so far.

There's symbolism all over the castle related to card suits, especially diamonds and spades, so they probably have some special significance in-universe. Or they're just a convenient design motif, but eh.

I don't think there's any kind of cycle or clear progression of the symbols though. It's not like the Queens are even the only ones with emblems, all the women of the Butterfly bloodline have them, including Star's aunts and baby cousins. And we've seen more than 4 other kinds of symbols. Crowns, Stars, Thunderbolts, Hourglasses, Bunnies, even variants on the suits like Festiva's curved diamonds.

From a design perspective I would think that they would avoid giving Moon's mother clubs or spades to avoid confusion/association with Heinous and Eclipsa, even though they're clearly not the same person.
But at the same time, I would assume Toffee's skull ornaments are painted to represent the Queen and Princess Moon.

I think they're both, recognizable symbol for audience + also mean something in-universe.

In this theory the card suits would specifically be the firstborn daughters in line for the wand, and other descendants of Butterflys can have everything else (same as those queens born outside of the 4-generation cycle). Though I don't even really expect it to be true so much as if there is a cycle going on, Eclipsa would fit into it pretty well based on her stated distance from Moon (third or eleventh great-grandmother would seem to indicate no clear pattern).

I actually think it's possible Heinous could be Star's great-aunt, and so a sister of Moon's mother if cheek emblems are the same among siblings. Seems to match her appearance age-wise at least.

Diamonds are definitely Moon, but I guess I still expect the spades to represent Eclipsa, for whatever reason.
