Check out Megas Xlr, every episode is on youtube atm and because it was used as a tax write off it is literally owned by the united states government. I remember being pissed as a kid when it dissappeared, and rewatching it has been amazing.

A teenaged girl drew fanart of Steven Universe. Tumblr thought a character in it looked too thin. They started harassing her for months. Even started a hate blog against her. Drove her to attempt suicide. Some of the SU crew commented on it, including Sugar. Then some of those same folks on tumblr started calling Sugar a pedo for drawing shota shit.

Long story short is that Nick has been salty ever since what happened with Doug.

After they cancelled Doug and did nothing with it, they let their rights to the IP expire and revert back to Jim Jenkins. He then took Doug to Disney, where they renewed it for more seasons that were in turn successful enough to make a movie (which flopped).

That pissed Nick off, as they felt Disney was profiting off of a foundation they had built and weren't receiving any revenue from it. So since then, they've made their policies more cutthroat to ensure that they never let an IP revert again, even if it means destroying the person who created it for them.

When you don't pay your taxes, the IRS takes your assets. the Megas IP was considered an asset.
The strange part of this story is usually once the IRS has seized an asset they usually proceed to auction it off rather than hold it indefinitely. There's no rational reason for the IRS to hold on to a cartoon about robots on behalf of the US government.

Same thing that happened with Mina and the Count. It was pitched to Cartoon Network and they didn't pick it up. Then Nickelodeon jumped on it and produced 3 or 4 more shorts for their network (but not a full series).
