I never knew betty boop and a bunch of those other classic cartoon shorts were so freaking good till I got bored and started looking up shit under the public domain. Anyone else know about some hidden gems, or old stuff that's fallen out of the public eye?

It never stops surprising me all the work they put on these, I mean look at those painted backgrounds, the fluid nonstop animation of almost all the elements in the front layers, for fuck sake they even had CAB CALLOWAY singing

It's really crazy, these cartoons seem like they were on the bleeding age of everything 1920's. Animation techniques, abstraction, tone, music. I love it and want more.

I hope we ever get another boom of high quality animation as a 'standard'

that's incredible. One good suggestion deserves another.

Watch the original B/W popeye cartoons. They are by Fleisher studios also (the same studio that did betty boop) fucking awesome

Reminder that these are theatrical cartoons.
Only Disney still does cartoon shorts that run before movies. Everyone else just plays Verizon commercials.

Also Koko the clown cartoons. I like the cartoons, but I hate Koko
I love Fleisher Studios
It's really weird to see these cartoons and think that World War 2 and the stuff that Germany did 10 years later. What happened?

The only person attempting this atmosphere today is probably Felix Colgrave desu. It's like a raw look into someone's subconscious.

This raises a good point. That's why the three Roger Rabbit cartoons out there are so high in quality that they qualify for the OP too.
Also have you guys seen Bill Plimpton's stuff? Incredible stuff there. Not vintage though.

They put a guy who should have been a surrealist and like DalĂ in charge of a nations politics.

Poverty and kikes inciting commie rebellions repeatedly.

I hate this pavlovian response.
They decide to make television cartoons of a lower quality than theatrical cartoons.

>They decide to make television cartoons of a lower quality than theatrical cartoons.
Like how they decide to make TV shows a lower quality than movies. It's not a matter of economics, someone just "decided" it had to be that way.
>>93462318
Was that Mickey?
>>93463617
That version of "Swing You Sinners" is probably my favorite.
>>93468993
The last few years of television disproves your point.

Ripping on Mickey was the hot thing to do back in the day
