Confession time:
I unironically loved that webcomic RED with the armless girl and am deeply saddened that the comic creator deleted its existence

There is at least one anon here who regularly posts RED. Is that you?

Let me get this straight
Ian C Samson deleted a comic strip because it WASN'T about petrification, body horror or gender swapping and had a regular plot?
>>
>>93457267
Wasn't it still about all of these things in addition to having a regular plot?

The last arc of Shredded Moose was actually entertaining because it had a story. The tard who wanted to revive it never put those strips up

ARCHIVE EVERYTHING. If you like it archive it,whether it be a picture, song, animation, comic. Get a hard drive and archive that shit.
>>
i guess artist don't want not go back to that phase and move on, deleting their stuff is their way to move on to new areas, I don't like the idea of an artist erasing their past to move on to something else but then again, some people aren't very comprehensive and will use someone's past against them

She's going to be forever bitter that her vidya comics will be eternally more popular than her grand life's work because one is funny and entertaining to read and the other is a boring slog that tries to cover up sub-par writing with nice art.

Her problem is that she's very good at parody. her vidya comics showcase this perfectly, but CQ for whatever reason does not.

I can kind of understand how she would be annoyed at the parodies being looked on as better then her original work, but the talent is there.

>ARCHIVE EVERYTHING. If you like it archive it,whether it be a picture, song, animation, comic.
Solid advice.
>Get a hard drive and archive that shit.
And you better remember to back up that hard drive and monitor its health. A failing hard drive can slowly corrupt your data. It has happened to me. Don't let it happen to you.

Also, don't forget that backups in the Wayback Machine (web.archive.org) may vanish at any time. If someone buys the work's domain name and changes the robots.txt file to disallow access, all backups will become inaccessible. This means that if your favorite thing is only preserved in the Wayback Machine you should hurry up and create a local backup on your computer.

Well, we can't have a DELET WEBCOMIC thread without the grand maestro herself.

As for why they do it, I've found it relates to one of two reasons (sometimes both). The first is a desire to move on from a work they don't really like anymore. That one is really common when the comic happens to be a fancomic--they've moved on from the fandom but they're still kinda hinged to it by the comic. So they just delete fucking everything in an act of desperation. The other reason I've seen is just plain that they don't give a shit anymore. It's a footnote on their lives and they're not really interested in dedicating more of themselves to something like that. So they just clear it out.

Nothing's WRONG with either of these things but not giving an explanation is just fundamentally dishonest. A lot of the DELET FUCKING EVERYTHING examples are people in the late teens, early twenties and are afraid of the response they'll get if they announce it. So they just pack up and run for it.
>>
I kinda feel i'm in same spot. I got popular with vidya-themed comics and now i just want to move on to something else. I don't really want to delete them, since there's so many people who like them, but i don't think i'm never going get as popular ever again.
>>
Speaking as a coulda-been who threw it all away, there are a few reasons:
>the work has become garbage in hindsight and you don't want it to represent you any longer, however successful it is at present
>e-fame from success doing this part-time-turned-full-time thing is no longer appealing and you want to move on to something else
>fans are really fucking creepy and your contempt for them finally outweighed any desire to continue

Clean breaks are really for the best. If anything, blame the fanbase for not archiving shit while it was still up.
>durr someone else will do it
Reap the sweet fuck-all then.
>>
>>93463766
Don't delete them. Let people enjoy what they like. If you feel like they really have to distance yourself from them, I suggest you migrate them to a different account or a specialized part of whatever site you host them on. But keep them there so people can enjoy them. In the end that'll help move some of the people who liked that stuff towards your new stuff because they won't feel slighted by your actions. You'll feel better about it in the long run, trust me on this one.
>>
>>93460721

>except cq is good?
Maybe if you stopped reading two or three years ago. Every moment that starts good is instantly defused as soon as possiblke. It's like she doesn't want to get anywhere or leave the status quo.
>>
My guess. A lot of people begin making a webcomic really young, and over time they change and they don't feel like said webcomic is really something they have made. It's something their teen-self made.

I know I'm just glad I never put my early comics online, because what I made as a teenager isn't what I want to make today.

Nevermind that the shift in narrative could piss off readers. Going from typical capeshit empowerment comics to existential cosmic horror is a pretty big jump.

Deleting something while it still has its fans on the Internet seems like exactly the wrong strategy due to the Streisand effect and the possibility to turn your however modest fandom into a hatedom.
>>
>>93464795

>>93454716
This happens to a lot of things that get too popular when the creator can't handle the popularity.

This is why if you find something you like, it's important to make backups of it. You never know if the creator will turn out to be one of those people. And you can't rely on other people to save it.
>>
>>93454716
I had no idea Double K's creator deleted everything. That sucks.

Anders loves Maria comes to mind, finished the comic then shortly after deleted everything. I mean, aside from the ending feeling rushed and certain plot points never being adequately resolved it wasn't that bad. Last Days of Foxhound too, good webcomic that was just deleted.

There's little difference between watching someone suffocate and placing a pillow on their face. He had plenty of ways to preserve the pages with no effort, but he chose to kill it indirectly to stave off backlash.

He's just gonna daydream about ideas he'll never commit to for the rest of his life, and that's a shame.

The author of Double K had to stop the webcomic because of money issues. Not sure why he deleted it, his smackjeeves account and his other webcomic there still exist after all.

>entitled fans asking for more
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, art is the only field where people actually seem resentful that they are expected to produce. Every other field of entertainment and creative endeavors seems to understand that their job is to produce content, I don't know why people who draw feel like they are somehow exempt from putting forward the same effort as everyone else.
>>
>>93467637
Cool image that doesn't apply to the conversation at hand. Taking action to kill is often considered more reprehensible than a refusal of aid, but it's murder either way when intent is behind it. He killed his comic through inaction, both literally and figuratively. A decent update schedule and a willingness to discuss his comic and incorporate feedback would have helped him avoid insubstantial view counts.

There's a big difference between being asked to produce and being asked to produce only one product indefinitely, which is something artists are faced with more often than in the industrial/R&D fields.

It's like if 10% of Apple's consumers demanded that the company focus on producing Apple ][ and ONLY Apple ][ variants forever and sent the employees death threats and pestering mail constantly when they don't comply. Removing the existing product isn't the solution, but Apple isn't entitled if they tell you to shut the fuck up about the Apple ][ already. They get it, you like it, you can keep your Apple ][ as long as you like, but they're busy working on new products.

Yeah, because authors don't have that happen. Actors/actresses don't have that happen. No one has ever annoyed the shit out of VA's of their favorite characters. Musicians don't ever deal with this shit.

This happens in ANY field where you work in entertainment. You think Keith Richards really wants to go out on stage and sing fucking She's So Cold for the 8 millionth time? I doubt it. But he still does, because he's giving the fans what they want. And you don't see him screaming about how the fans are entitled for wanting to hear it. The only time I really see entertainers/creative types complaining about "entitled fans" is in art, specifically drawing.

>Yeah, because authors don't have that happen. Actors/actresses don't have that happen. No one has ever annoyed the shit out of VA's of their favorite characters. Musicians don't ever deal with this shit.
...but those are all considered artists, and the behavior you're talking about occurs in all of these fields.

Artists like Bowie and Prince reinvented themselves several times, offering albums unlike their previous efforts, while bands like Metallica continue to repeat themselves. Transformers just put out its fifth movie, but there are indie directors who do different shit all the time. Gigi fled from her hiimdaisy comics and Moore refuses to ever touch Watchmen again, but Jim Davis is still cranking out Garfield and Jaques still updates Questionable Content. If you think this doesn't happen in all forms of entertainment, you're crazy. Why do you think some musicians refuse to perform their hits? Why do you think some authors don't let some of their older work get new prints? This shit is universal to media. Taking down your web comic is more akin to refusing further distribution than anything, and that's happened plenty of times elsewhere.

Why bother?

People make these in high school and then they grow up and hate what they did when they were stupid teenagers. In the old days nobody had to see what you made when you were a dumbass kid just learning how to draw but now with the internet you can start ruining your name with subpar work from a very young age.

I thought he grand master was RPG World by Ian Jewish Question who just got pissed with doing it and abandoned/deleted it, then brought it back just to do a "rocks fall, everyone dies" ending to piss people off.

i mean in his case i sorta get it. He presumably graduated med school and went on to have an actual career. You can't go having your patients google your name looking for office hours and stumble into a bunch of comics where you make fun of medical patients and casual malpractice.

Yeah didn't you hear? There was the kickstarter fiasco where he didn't think to put a cap on rewards so the fees in shipping went over the budget of the kickstarter. So after mailing out a chunk of the books he was left with a few hundred just lying around. After some whiny bitches bombarded him with emails about where their books were and demanding he send them and calling him a con artist he posted a video of him burning the remaining 100+ books out behind his apartment and then the site was wiped. Following that he said he didn't want to have any kind of an internet presence anymore and vanished, save the few CaD notices to people sharing his stuff online.

>According to DNAinfo.com, Campbell spent $30,000 USD producing the 200-page hardcover book and even more to include a plastic-wrapped dead wasp in each copy, leaving little money for actual shipping
>and even more to include a plastic-wrapped dead wasp in each copy, leaving little money for actual shipping
>a plastic-wrapped dead wasp in each copy
truly we lost a legend that day

>went to check the last page

>So for those that don't know to quote the author/artist from their twitter "I'm super tired of keeping this under wraps so I may as well say it. I am no longer affiliated in any way shape or form w/ hiveworks. likewise let the record show I in no way endorse or support them either (for all of you who have asked over the last few years)Also it should seem obvious by now that Vibe is on an indefinite Hiatus, but I suppose it helps for you all to know for sure."
