It was not "movie synergy" with the MCU, but more just spite towards Fox. Along with Quicksilver and Vision, Wanda is one of the few MCU characters where they really don't care about movie-synergy at all.

Robinson had to fight for them to give her a solo book, and there's the fact that Whedon and Fiege planned back in 2012 to do the Wanda/Vision romance in the MCU, while everyone at Marvel seems to hate the pairing, and the comics have pushed Wanda with Wonderman instead.

Busiek ended it back around the end of his Avengers. And it wasn't ever popular with her fans. Marvel knew the MCU was going to be doing Wanda/Vision, and made a decision to recycle this instead.
