What are some of your favorite animated versions of fairy tales besides Disney?
Most of the "Happily Ever After" episodes were enjoyable. It's a shame they're not available in any decent quality unless you can catch it on HBO Family. I can't believe they haven't put them all on DVD or streaming to rake in cash from parents looking for alternatives.

Biblical stories are not classified as fairy tales, they would be considered part of religious mythology.

Anyone else develop a fetish for extremely long hair thanks to cartoons like these?
This version of the Little Mermaid:

Not quite a fetish but when I was little I was obsessed with Rapunzel stories and pretending I was Rapunzel in a tower with hair long enough to climb. My parents wouldn't let me grow my hair longer than my shoulders so it was a hopeless dream. That episode of Sabrina where she gets kidnapped by a troll and magics her hair super long so Harvey can climb it didn't help.

Wow, that's beautiful.
Looks like they did Cinderella too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcq_nzhgNRk

This one is fucking sick. Every fan of animation needs to watch it.
Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics, specifically Briar Rose which is the one my local video store had. There are more episodes online now, although the quality is hit and miss. Sadly Disney owns the rights to the English version of the series, so we won't be seeing a release anytime soon.

My brother.

A reboot of Happily Ever After would be pretty fun. There are plenty of modern day actors that would get into it.
The Princess and the Pauper song is still really damn good.

The songs were so odd but somehow charming. I loved the one from Snow White, err, "White Snow." You're the one, you're the one, you're the one.
Although I guess it's good they never animated the second book
>Irene and Curdie were married. The old king died, and they were king and queen. As long as they lived Gwyntystorm was a better city, and good people grew in it. But they had no children, and when they died the people chose a king. And the new king went mining and mining in the rock under the city, and grew more and more eager after the gold, and paid less and less heed to his people. Rapidly they sank toward their old wickedness. But still the king went on mining, and coining gold by the pailful, until the people were worse even than in the old time. And so greedy was the king after gold, that when at last the ore began to fail, he caused the miners to reduce the pillars which Peter and they that followed him had left standing to bear the city. And from the girth of an oak of a thousand years, they chipped them down to that of a fir tree of fifty.
>One day at noon, when life was at its highest, the whole city fell with a roaring crash. The cries of men and the shrieks of women went up with its dust, and then there was a great silence.
>Where the mighty rock once towered, crowded with homes and crowned with a palace, now rushes and raves a stone-obstructed rapid of the river. All around spreads a wilderness of wild deer, and the very name of Gwyntystorm had ceased from the lips of men.

Kinda funny how that's toei's like logo icon now.
This was a pretty refreshing modern take on the genre that didn't beat you over the head with self aware humor.
I admit I haven't gotten around to seeing this one, but I've heard good things.
Same with Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night.
After the book and Disney's movie, this is up there as one of my favorite versions of Alice in Wonderland. It's primarily stopmotion so it's /co/
This movie is a lot better than it has any right being

Who is that ugly 12 year old boy? Why is he leaning on air? Why is a giant lumpy caterpillar attached to his head?

Glad someone posted this! I have to say while i like the movie, it is missing a key plot point that you only get in the book. I'd seriously recommend it for reading.

Yes. 1000% yes.
Hold on, ALL of these posted are based on fairy tales?
>>93433072
It doesn't have to be old to be a fairy tale. You can write a fairy tale today and it still counts.

tfw Peter Beagle was abused by his manager who overworked and gaslighted him, and is once again trying to fight for the rights to the Last Unicorn
At least he published a new unicorn related novel this year.
>>93433072
a few I would consider modern fantasy rather than fairy tale
>>93432591
>unico
>fairy tale
okay that's stretching it
>>93434004
>A magical unicorn changes a cat that wants to be a witch into a little girl
Seems pretty fairy tale to me.
>>93431535
Cant recall that one. Got a pic?
>>93431616
She's so hot
>>93435652
Damn straight.
>>93431757
Is that goddess? touching herself?
>>93434519
I remember a fairy tale with that premise, it was a fairy that transformed the cat thou. Also like most classic fairy tales it didnĀ“t end well for the cat.
>>93435977
If you were a goddess, wouldn't you?
>>93436019
In unico the cat gets date raped.
>>93431803
Shit, I just saw this earlier tonight
>>93438408
What did you think of it?
>>93439352
Bretty good. I saw it at the Center for Puppetry Arts with family here in Atlanta, presented by some chick that wrote a book on Lotte Reiniger. She explained a bunch of the history behind Reiniger and her work, even brought one of the little shadow puppets for people to look at
>>93439592
Well now I'm just jealous. That's sounds like a very enlightening experience.
OK, if you're going to pick modern non-classic fairy tales, you might as well go with the obvious.
>>93441781
Never heard of this. How is it?
>>93442004
Not bad as I recall. Haven't seen it since the last network airing though. It's based on the book by Brian Froud and Alan Lee that was part of the wave of fantasy art books started by Gnomes.
>>93431748
I love this anime, it has even less famous fairy tales and some episode were really dark.
>>93431748
Tales of Magic is also pretty good if you want that corny anime dub aesthetic. The art direct varies on the stories, which I find to be a strong point and some of the stories have very cruel comeuppances.
I absolutely adore soviet fairy tale cartoons.
Great stuff, I can't even pick a favourite one.
