Why are internet animators so useless?

>lazy
>can't get real jobs
>unskilled in both art and writing
>takes months for them to shit out a small cartoon
>can't do anything without having to rely on LP money and hefty panhandling sums from Patreon

Seriously, someone explain this to me.

The Zach hate is getting redundant. Why can't we shit on Hot Diggity Demon? He hasn't made anything good since dress.mov, and swag.mov was fucking garbage and ruined the series. It's like he suddenly became a brony and felt awful for depicting the characters in such an unflattering fashion, so he tried to undo everything.

Also, his forerays into drama are fucking cringeworthy.

That being said, Zach should take a page from Oney. Zach is definitely the Garfunkel of the two.
>>
18 year old here, is it normal I have never heared about these people like Oney and Zach until recently?

I mean sure, he isn't the best animator; but he's still pushing out content.

Also props to Michael Cusack. Glad he's getting paid to animate now.

I guess I'm never here for it. I've only ever seen people sucking his dick about his genius animations and explaining why "Invader Zim Lost Episode" is hilarious.

Also, was the leaked Hellbenders feature length episode what they submitted to Adult Swim? Because now I understand why they got shot down.

Not necessarily an animator per se but this fuck puts out some pretty good stuff
>>
>can't get real jobs
Except most of them do have "real jobs", at least a majority of the original NGs crew does.

Do you actually think Oney just does his LPs? He works for Arin and Jeff and Corey work for Tom Fulp.

They don't shit out cartoons because for one they take a lot longer to make, even the short little ones, than you think and two they make next to no money from Youtube anymore.

So you're demanding they spend weeks of work to make a cartoon only to release it and make no money from it while at the same time having to pay to simply eat and live.

Animators need to just animate as a hobby because as soon as it becomes a job or business to them the work becomes sloppy and rushed out

Ever think there's a reason Arin gave up and releases 6, 10 minute videos a day?
>>
>>93417513
>Ever think there's a reason Arin gave up and releases 6, 10 minute videos a day?
Arin is a piece of shit regardless.

It's the exact same dumb expression he has every time while doing dumb shit combined with his weird appearance that gets me giggling like an idiot at this shit.

I don't know if it's my autism or whatever but just the way he looks and what he does just gives a me a pitch perfect voice of what he'd sound like in my head. Coincidentally enough, before even watching it, Sr Pelo's video he put on Twitter had him with nearly the EXACT tone and inflection I had in my head.

>lazy
This is you being blatantly disingenuous.

>Can't get real jobs
They can, but that would mean spending less time animating which means it would take even longer to put out content which you'd just bitch about anyways.

>Unskilled in both art and writing
Fluctuates between people so it's an irrelevant point, if you didn't think their art or writing was good you wouldn't watch their content.

>Takes months for them to make small cartoons
Animation takes time you fucking retard.

>Can't do anything without relying on LP/Patreon money
It's not the animators faults that Youtube decided that their content was worthless and they moved on to whatever wasn't. None of us can do anything without relying on money and this point you're trying to make is fucking meaningless.

>Even then they still manage to do jack shit
Animation still takes time even if people are paying for the animators food, rent and bills. I don't understand what is so difficult about this concept.

>Acts butthurt/self-righteous if anyone calls them out on it
Calls them out on what exactly? Everything you listed is a YOU problem that would be solved by you not watching their shit.

Calling someone lazy because they aren't pumping content out fast enough for you doesn't make you look good. Neither does bitching at them for not getting a "real job" while complaining that they take too long to make new content and then getting pissy when they're able to work on their projects full time but they get money in ways you disagree with.

honestly, with people like this, there was a real ball dropped
I always hear about how they have to "spend all their time to push out a single animation" or some such meme when there's an easy fix that the original NG crew, ESPECIALLY the Sleepy Cabin ones, never took advantage of

if they had gotten maybe 10 people to work with them, then they could easily collaborate & push out animations on at least a regular basis

if they kept it short (say, a 1-2 minute animation/month), swapped who did what & each worked on each other's projects, then they could possibly make their animations a viable thing

almost every time I've seen them list the cleanup animators, the in-between-animators, etc, it's usually outsourced to someone like Studio Yotta or something, which isn't really as financially viable as having it done in-house
>>
>>93418961

Dex tried to do Sanity with a guy named ImmortalHD, but it wasn't the same, then Immortal quit and then it was just him for a season and then he left. No, I am 18 and most people my age just know about LP people, or other YouTube personality folk, like the Vloggers and stuff.

If I bring up animation, the most I get from people my age is Swoozie or JaidenAnimations.

I just now started learning about Sleepy Cabin, Newgrounds, and all the animators that came from it.

Animation is not dead or dying, but people my age just do not care enough or are unaware.

I mean, my god, my friends know Egoraptor as Arin from GameGrumps, but never knew about any of his animation or other work, aside from the latest Star Bomb stuff, but they only learned about that because it was plugged on the Game Grumps channel, or some shit.

Sad thing is, I just not get into Harry Partridge and Hot DiggedyDemon, but from what I can tell, they only upload animations like once or twice a year.

Because the arts attracts millions of people but only like 0.001% are ever going to have the combination of natural talent, acquired skill, and work ethic to ever be exceptional or excellent.

Because the internet allows anyone to share anything on a multitude of platforms, it means you're going to have to sift through 99% bullshit to ever possibly find someone who fits all the above criteria. I mean look at the amount of people on /co/ who consider themselves artists or writers to the point where they think they could get paid for it (I don't mean just the hobbyists). Everyone overestimates their own skills, and everyone these days in the lands of the amateur thinks that they have what it takes to be a professional.

Internet animators follow these rules. You'll find 99% trash who think they're competent and capable, and some tiny fraction of people tucked away in the corners who actually are competent or capable.

Good choice, fuck HotDiggetyDemon. Guy moves forward knowing his income is going away, changing nothing, then cries a sob story when his inflexibility (in an industry that extremely requires flexibility) keeps his from paying his bills. I don't know why people think any drawing or animation they put on the internet entitles them to demand support from the people who stumble upon to see it. I understand the need for patrons of art but who seriously thinks it's a good idea to take anonymous patronage as a given? Make an art object for someone who will pay for it, don't only just make what seems most marketable and throw it out there hoping an algorithm or a donor will give something back.

>decent release schedule
>does his own thing
>doesn't get involved in political bullshit/youtube drama
>gives exposure to other animators through Great: The Show
>>
>>93421233
He doesn't release often enough to be the king, although all his stuff is amazing
>>
>>93421294
Still, the last time he did release something, it was a minor sensation on /co/ that sustained threads for several days. He's high tier for sure.
>>
>>93421256
Yeah. Joe's weird as fuck is clearly pursuing his own bizarre idea of (children's?) entertainment, but the guy has always remained productive and completely stable to keep his finances and personal life controlled enough not to meltdown in people's faces over. I sincerely believe any person who chooses to make personal projects for the public eye has a responsibility not to pile on the totality of their life's grief oto their fans who are just people who liked their stuff that they found browsing.
Life is hard, but it really is your life and your thing, tying up all your grief into your attempt at a marketable career isn't going to help you, unless your plan is to make yourself a charity case, which will only be fun for the most generous of people who pity you.

These lads are hysterical and crank out content at a decent rate.
These would be my pick for best internet animators.
>>
>>93421353
There's no problem, it's simply true that this guy is hedging his life on the idea that he'll eventually make something of larger value, and is relying on patronage to get there (which is an investment relying on good faith in an artist's labor) and his biggest most important project he's been working on for years, which has kept him from working on other things, didn't work out. This is simply the stage where psychicpebbles has not 'made it' yet, and following the guy in any capacity at this point means stress, especially since his happiness has clearly eroded to the point where he argues and complains about the state of the world and his audience. I full expect him to pull something out and make something really enjoyable eventually, but until then this is the point where he's just a pile of stress and a point of contention.

Ok.
He's supposedly been working on something with Justin Roiland so we'll see if that pans out. Animation isn't exactly a stable form of income, but that's the route he went with.
Hey did you know you can actually avoid the content of artists you don't like by not opening it in your web browser? :^)

29 year old here. No idea who they are and I've fail animated in Newgrounds. Never liked fucking commentary on gameplay vids. Seen OP pic posted here before with zero context minus the patreon stats. Only know of porn patreons
>>
>>93421589
Drop the shit you facetious fucker. I've been following Zach since newgrounds because I liked his personality and left-handed attitude, and when he started talking like he was going to make something big I got excited, and let downs are let downs especially after so long a time. I'm so sorry you had to suffer to hear anything but unilateral praise for a long term failed project that led to an shifting of gears to a different promise of future results.
>>
>>93421404
It just means he wasn't sensible enough to have a back-up plan with money, he wasn't wise enough to realize that no animator has made a living off of YouTube and he sure as hell wasn't going to be the first, and he isn't mature enough to give his cats not stupid as fuck names.

This guy shouldn't be taking care of cats when he can barely take care of himself.
>>
>>93416484

Why are him and Chris not following each other on twatter/youtube anymore? They used to be inseparable.
>>
>>93417819
not like that at all, he is more subtle about it. if his subscribers weren't autists like us he would have stop long ago
>>
>>93423428
Chris is tired of Zach
>>
>>93423428
Because Chris is shifting gears making more lighthearted and profitable content with new friends after his project with Zach fell through and he started getting argumentative on twitter. Also Zach is able to afford to spend an infinite amount of time on projects whether they succeed or fail, since he gets all his money from Patreon, but there's no way for Chris to make any money working with Zach until after a project succeeds, and the last one hadn't.
>>
>>93419137
Before youtube changed, an animation a month could make you a comfortable middle-class salary. Now it doesn't really make any money at all.

1-2 minute animations would absolutely not pay for the efforts of a team of animators. Youtube basically requires videos that are 10-20 minutes long to be profitable, and that's just not doable on a monthly basis for independent animation.

Animators now HAVE to go the patreon route, and I know how you fuckers feel about patreon.
>>
>>93423529
>after his project with Zach fell through

Hellbenders? Zach kept promising updates on this, yet I have no idea what happened. I know an incomplete episode 3 got leaked, but thats it.

What happened to the project these two were doing with Roiland?
>>
zach is a fucking jew
he only made 2 podcasts
>I CAN'T FIND A FAMOUS GUEST EVERY TIME GUYS
do it by yourself dude
>>
>>93419175
All he's saying is that between ten well-known independent animators sharing an office, none of them worked with eachother to create a workable career. They all independently sank huge time into big personal projects and none of them made any money. What about someone noticing lost potential for business makes you need to insist they must be poor? I mean you clearly misunderstood his post if you think 'they should have worked together to make money' is something only a poor person would say.
>>
>>93423574
Yeah Hellbenders. Adult Swim showed no interest in the show, the big pilot episode leaked and it isn't anything notable for being two years of work, and Zach is basically now just promising another adult swim pitch with a guy who's other show is on total hiatus and he won't share anything about it.

Zach is doubling down on trying to get his tv spot, but based on the hellbenders episode he simply doesn't have the understanding to executively produce or be in control of a television-length show. Chris did extremely well to se up a daily form of content that is fun, workable, and capitalizes on the delivering the personality and silliness that he always brought to the table. And it pays for his continued freelance efforts without relying on anonymous patronage.
In short, Zach lacks adaptability and is held back by an unsuitable and possibly egotistical dream of being a creative director in television, while being beholden to ideas he came up with in middle school where he basically painstakingly draws him and his friend being retarded, at a rate of a month per minute if we're lucky.

This sleepycast thing really gets under my skin. I understand they couldn't continue it, that's fair enough. The issue is the fact we were promised 5 more episodes a year ago and we've only gotten one.
>we're just too busy to meet up and do one
bullshit
1. you have already taken money from patreon for sleepycast. Sure it's not an obligation, but it's fucking scummy as shit to take money on the promise of content and not deliver on it (especially when there have been multiple times you called other people for this exact thing.)
2. At most an episode of sleepycast would take 12 hours to make, between recording and editing audio. You can make time for this once a month.
3. With as busy as they try to make you believe they are you would think their youtube channels would be flourishing. Nope. The only one's who are releasing consistent content are Chris, Stamper and Mick. What do you know, they only three with work ethics are also the only three to do an episode of sleepycabin postmortem.

For people who constantly talk shit about other content creators, they are really showing their true colors.
>>
>>93419023
He has Ross and Ding Dong now and doodle doods is pretty quality entertainment that he gets a nice paycheck for.
>>
>>93419230

agreed
>>
>>93416484
I think the problem stems from making an animation being a chore to them and not something they enjoy. They're not like most working animators who usually aren't also the writer/art director/editor/sound/voices/etc. They're just doing working on specific frames of animation along with a bunch of other people and the types work is split between different groups. People want quality so they expect the creator to put more work into the animations which takes more time since they have to do the work of several people. Look at Arin's old work for example. It was cheap and shitty looking as fuck. He could bang that out in a few days. Now with the newer animations he started adding in more movement which requires more work, so his animations took longer to come out.

Coming up with ideas for an animation also isn't easy. You can only get so much out of an idea before it gets stale and the people want something else. Then you gotta come up with a new idea to replace the old one that will still keep the people coming back to you. Some can do small stuff on the side while coming up with something, but not all artists work like that. Some need to take the time to think it out before perusing it. You gotta come up with characters, settings, premises, etc. Again this sort of thing in professional animation is done by multiple people as opposed to one.

>>93423867
Now you have to throw in the fact that most of these guys have grown up and moved out of their parents houses, meaning they have other responsibilities like paying for shit with money they have to work for. Animation isn't a open field of jobs so they're probably doing other things that aren't animation related. Some might be doing commercial work with the skills they have so their own work has pushed back to being something done in their free time. Some have gone the Patreon route, but like I already mentioned, all the factors of going solo come into play and people can't get around this concept of one person doing everything slows it the fuck down.

No they don't. Regardless, I have a full-time job and it really doesn't suck away every free second you have. I know you never had a job before, but it's not hard to make time.
>they're split in half right
Stamper, Chris, Mick, Zach, and Niall all live in California. Jeff and Cory both live in Pennsylvania. It's not that hard to make work with slight effort (scary word I know).

Oh believe me, I have no expectations. It's just basic human dignity to deliver on a promise after people have paid you money for it. Maybe you should have Anita Sarkeesian on as a guest.
>>
>>93423779
Yep, no need to feel alone on this one. SleepyCabin was a failed wishy-washy attempt at an art collective and DIY fireside chat, and the people who stuck to it he most were the ones who had big smartasses ideas about how the world and productivity worked, that they ended up wasting their time grandstanding wounded manifestos for why they're actually the smartest and coolest for ever having anything to show. The people who are most productive are the ones who speakers the least on the show, which invariably always devolved into Zach and Stamper agreeing that anyone who has expectations of them are idiot villians, and spouting off uneducated rants against anything that reminds them of being asked to take life seriously as a child. Now SleepyCast is just one last guy who won't move on, failing to release a third episode in eight months while remaining silent or enraged on every issue of productivity.
To those who have stuck too much with the 'program', the newgrounds brand of punk independence gave way to adult indignance and discontent with anyone who's paying enough attention to notice that there isn't a damn thing to follow with these guys. The best of them moved on immediately and the worst of them are moving goalposts and bragging that their effort is more important than the rest of the world's productivity. SleepyCabin is an enabling scab for people who associate adaptation with loss of identity. It's a small, broken thing now and the one person who pretends to keep it up spends his time on the show telling people not to bother him.

Because they are all millenials who are both self centered and antisocial.

They want to do everything by themselves and at the same time not actually put any effort in to it. They want studios, jobs and the world to just give them money and happyness without doing anything or giving anything in return. They want a hit TV show and movie but they want all the credit for it.

They keep blaming others for their mistakes when really they are asshole fuck ups who don't do shit.

If any 5 of them actually put their shit aside and joined together to make shit they would be swimming in cash right now. Instead they all would rather bitch on twitter about SJW and youtube boogy men while doing nothing.

This. So simple. I relate with them so closely because back in newgrounds times I was the same way, and in the end blame them because this last year I have really focused on growing out of that awful antisocial isolated selfish work ethic and I am finding so much success because of that.
You need to work with people, for god's sake. Communicate and flesh out something that's cooperative, needed work. Quit wasting years trying to create temples to your talent alone. You keep telling us every reason why what you're doing isn't working, but you won't stop.
