I think I read a long long time ago that it was because it ran for so long, she wanted it to end so badly but couldn't wrap everything up properly. Plus she hated the ghostwriters she had for the majority of the books.

Maybe she didn't hate the books per-se, but she definitely hated the characters enough to give none of them good or decent endings. And Rachel's death was always pretty big too.

Friendly reminder that Animorphs got FUCKEN DARK in the later books. They tried to expand the team, gave one kid named...David I think? The power to morph, mostly to save his life because he was stuck in a shitty situation where only morphing would allow him to escape with the team
He eventually goes nuts, starts plotting to kill Jake the team leader and claim Cassie as his girl and make the team start stealing so they could afford things like guns or just a nicer home life. Rachel makes up a plan and the team agrees to it. They trick him into turning into a rat, and then trap him in a steel box so that if he changed back the size difference would crush him. Then they transport him to a lonely island off the coast with a bunch of other rats living there and WAIT THE WHOLE 2 HOURS FOR HIM TO GET STUCK IN THAT FORM LISTENING TO HIM BEG AND PLEAD.
And then they finally left him

Later on he gets found by I think it was Visser 5? Or the evil counterpart to the Elliminist, and Rachel has to kill him
None of the characters were ever older than 17 when they did these things

Because noses add a ton of personality to a face and aren't as often considered as the mouth and eyes. And, unlike the eyes and mouth, the nose doesn't change shape much and serves as a constant on the face. Making the nose stand out is a good way to add some character when you do it right. Animorphs is one of the few fiction items out there that shows how fucking terrifying yet useful a "simple" power like transformation could be.

The biggest use it has was that battle damage doesn't carry over. They lost limbs or took lasers/bullets on pretty regular basis.

Legit uses would include scientific studies. The amount of shit you could learn with the ability to naturally follow animals would be crazy. And they could actually talk to whales when they went into the ocean.

Traffic would become a thing of the past if you could simply turn into a bird and glide a few miles to your destination.

So when they finally meet again she's wary as fuck about him and only takes on the role of motherhood distantly and partially. They never connect on a personal level despite this being Tobias' greatest wish.

Then Rachel dies at Jake's command and he sort of just...loses his human side entirely.
