>WE'RE FRIENDS FROM WORK!

Isn't Thor supposed to talk in pseudo olde English?
Why is he using the syntax of a casual modern guy?
>>
>>93335540
He learned at work.
>>
>>93335540
Because his time on Earth has changed his style of speech a little?

We tend to unconciously change our speech patterns to match the people around us. Makes sense that he'd pick some stuff up.
>>
>>93335540
>They're playing up him being naive still
>It's a MCU flick, it's going to have comedy bits
>He hasn't talked in Olde English for a while in the movies
Nice bait.
>>
>>93335540
Because he's been visiting Earth on and off since 2011, and he's picked up language elements. His reference to Hulk as a "friend from work" is a sarcastic refrerence to them both being on the same superhero team.
>>
>>93335540
The only time he ever talked like that was in Avengers

Every other time he talked normal
>>
>>93335540
It's funny. Just shut off your mind, bro. XDDD

>>

To who?
No one where he is from Earth...
>>
>>93335540
Thou art a friend who doth hail from the work!
>>
>>93335608
That's all they ever make so yeah
>>
>>93335608
Have any directors really batted below their average in the MCU? From what I've seen, good directors make good movies in the MCU and even directors with some flops behind them get propled up by the safety net.
>>
>>93335639
>and even directors with some flops behind them get propped up by the safety net.

Liiiiiiikeeee?
>>
>>93335628
They haven't made a truly good movie since Iron Man 1.
They've made acceptable movies. Nothing actually worth getting hyped over though.
>>
>>93335613
Judging by the trailer, it seems like he's just saying it to mock them that they would think he and the Hulk would fight. They don't need to know the details of Hulk and Thor's work together in the Avengers, just that they were friends and worked together.
>>
>>93335556
I kind of want Taika to make a short where he introduces Daryl to the Avengers as "these...these are my work colleagues...Tony, he makes things...Steve, who was Captain America...and...er...Stephen and Wanda wave their hands alot.
>>
>>93335681
But that doesn't answer my question. You implied that he used earth-y vernacular to illicit a response from something/someone.
But no one there is from Earth so there is no reason for him to not talk normally.
>>
>>93335583
>>93335613
I didn't see it as sarcasm so much as just Thor sees his time with the Avengers as his "job."
>>
>>93335665
James Gunn worked on the live action Scooby Doo movie.
Scott Derrickson directed and wrote for several horror movies that while not necessarily monetary flops, were recieved poorly by critics and audiences.
>>
>>93335722
>on the live action Scooby Doo movie.

>>
>>93335540
This Thor never really talked like that.

Shane Black did Iron Man 3...............

I really don't get what the fuck the tone of this movie is supposed to be. All of the Hel scenes seem to have massive tonal whiplash compared to the space scenes. My non-comic-reading friends were confused as fuck by the trailer, they didn't know what to think.

Taika and Coogler both have stellar track records so the potential is why
>>
>>93335734
And Kenneth Branagh has made movies that are considered significantly worse than the first Thor movie. My point stands.
>>
>>93335765
That's not what he was saying. He was saying that they are below the director's average movie, and they are.

Dumb fuck.

What about him? The First Avenger is better than Jurrassic Park III and the Rocketeer.

No?
>>
>>93335809
>and the Rocketeer.
No.
And October Sky is Joe Johnston's best film.
>>
>>93335809

The First Avenger is nowhere in the same stratosphere as Rocketeer
>>
>>93335540
Thor got the worst MCU movies, Thor 1 is worse than everything in MCU except thor 2.

My faith for this movie is pretty low
>>
>>93335758
I really wish Hemsworth Thor would talk like this with an English accent like the one he used in Rush. MCU Thor sounds like an Aussie. Also, his whole face and hairstyle in Rush looked more Thor than in MCU movies. The beard, the terrible greasy braids, and the short hair just aren't the character.
>>
>>93335780
Fair enough, though I'd say Branagh is arguable.
>>
>>93335751
It has both dramatic and lighthearted moments. It's a fairly basic thing lots of other movies do.
>>
>>93335804
That's not what syntax is. "We're friends from work" is a correct English sentence.
>>
>>93335883

Branagh is great with his Shakespearean adaptations, but everything else is kinda meh.
The bigger the budget, the worse it is (Frankenstein, Cinderella)

which makes me wonder why I'm looking forward to his Murder on the Orient Express, and possible Artemis Fowl movie.

Not typically to such an absurd degree.
>>
>>93336404
He did London Has Fallen and Gods of Egypt.
>>
I really wish Ragnarok was more of an intense action drama with Surter as the main villain rather than a damn memefest with psychedelic shit.
>>
>>93336415
Didn't seem absurd to me.
And even then I don't necessarily mind that if it's done well in the movie itself. Something like Swiss Army Man is a good example of soemthing that mixed dramatic things played straight and a ridiculous amount of fart jokes, but didn't feel jarring (at least no more than it intended to be).
>>
>>93336421

Maybe have Amora and Skurge working for him and Thor has to get Loki, Odin, and the rest of the Asgardians to fight Surter. But alas.
>>
>>93335726
I'd say it's great for all the wrong reasons.
It would've been legitimately great (rather than ironically great) if they didn't get cold feet at the last minute and let it be a self-aware parody for adults.

>Shaggy and Scooby were gonna be outright stoners
>Velma was gonna have lesbian tension with Daphne
>Cleavage everywhere (which later got CGI'd out so as not to traumatize the kiddies)

So the end result is a movie with some fun performances, but we still have to see Shaggy and Scooby have a farting contest.

I'm liking that with Ragnarok, they're taking the two characters with the most wasted potential who always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to solo films and just going all out with it.

Thor doesn't really speak Thor-talk in the movies or the comics. The last writers to have him talk with all the thees and thous were Busiek and Jurgens and that stopped around the early '00s.

Movie Thor and current comics Thor basically talk normal but with a few old-fashioned words, so it's not a stretch to go from there to using a few contractions.

I prefer the cod-Shakespeare talk Stan Lee invented but I have to admit it's not very popular among writers. Walt Simonson's run mostly had him talking normal and that's the most popular run.

>>
>>93336613
I wish they retconned Ruffalo out of the role. He sucks. Or at least let Ferrigno or Tatasciore do the voice. Ruffalo's modulated "puny god" sounded terrible by comparison to the "Hulk smash!" on the Norton movie.
>>
>>93336415
>Aliens has Bill Paxton yelling "GAME OVER MAN" juxtaposed with a little girl in danger of being face-raped by space parasites
>Star Wars has comic relief robots in the same film in which an entire planet's worth of people are killed in an instant
>Spider-Man comically beats up Randy Savage while Bruce Campbell makes fun of his name mere minutes before his uncle tragically dies in his arms
>The Simpsons Movie is a wacky comedy about a town being sealed inside a dome, except for the part where Marge tearfully leaves Homer and tapes over their wedding video
>Guardians of the Galaxy, an irreverent space opera/comedy opens with a little boy watching his mom die from cancer
>Iron Man jokes about taking selfies with soliders moments before they're all murdered onscreen by terrorists

You may not have noticed it.
But your brain did.

The movie is at least 90 minutes (more likely 120 and change), we've seen a total of maybe 5 minutes of footage so far. The juxtaposition can seem a bit jarring in that format, since it's all crammed that much closer together. But if you really look at some of the places some films go, you'd be surprised how all over the place the tone can get. Most well-made movies just have it shift so gradually (or at least naturally) that you don't even notice.
>>
>>93336636
Agreed. I really like him as Banner, just because he really nails the "dude who's always walking on eggshells" bit, but his voice sounds like shit.

No one will ever be better at yelling "HULK SMASH" than Tatasciore, so they may as well use him (or at least blend them together in post).

Isn't something he could have learned from Asgard, it's clearly something he picked up from Earth and understands it as something t to be excited about. If they want a Hulk who speaks few words, it should be Ferrigno. His Hulk Smash is boss. But if they want someone to speak more, it should probably be Tatasciore since Ferrigno is partially deaf and probably couldn't do long bits of dialogue as well. Either way, Ruffalo should not do the voice.

Just because it's in the source material doesn't mean it makes sense.

I get that it was a way to convey that Thor is an immortal god who's been around for centuries, but it still doesn't make sense. Obviously the only reason for Thor to speak English at all would be magic, and magic shouldn't give him translations that are centuries out of date. Just having him speak in a formal manner would get the message across much better than having him speak in what Hollywood thinks Old English was like.

Because the writers/creators are hack normies who don't think about these things and look at comic characters like the meme-tier parody these other normies make.

>>93335565

This is BARELY true. People don't really change their speech patterns that much. I live in the South, you can't get rid of a Southern accent if you move the southerner out of the south because THEY ENJOY talking that way. It's what they're used to.

Thor chooses to speak the way he does because he's Asgardian, it's the way he was raised and he's used to it. The mortals can learn from him, he doesn't need to learn their lingual norms. It's always been that way and Thor's language barrier is something that ads comedy to his character.

>>93339506

Exactly. And the older the person, the less likely they are to change their habits. Young people change, but old people don't. And Thor's several thousand years old.
