I thought the plot stuff was often more interesting than "lol Star fucks around on Earth" and it frustrated me a bit that Star was so infrequently involved with it and that most of the actual development concerned fuckin Moon instead. Despite this Star's character development/exploration was handled well; I only wish we'd gotten more of it that related to the Mewnu stuff.

I'm excited that S3's premiere seems to be aiming to almost correct that, with Star doing some actual fighting herself. Really hoping S2 was just the "calm before the storm" season and that from now on we'll have her doing more in her own show.

If they continue to do this sort of thing I'll probably start feeling this story is focused around the wrong character, but I'm hopeful they won't.

I think unlike 1 where it felt a little self-contained (not totally because of obvious cliffhangers, but Star's wand being cleaved at the very end setting up a dividing line between first and second), 2 sets up stuff that seems set to also continue across 3. That doesn't bother me, yet, because I think it shows they have more of a long-term plan.

The grinded corn at least seemed to be used a bit for that model of Butterfly castle the rats were practicing attacking, which seems like it might happen in the premiere.

I'm more confident about this than the other two points, since she's one of the card suits. If they hadn't gotten a renewal for 3 she probably would have done something more in the second half of 2, but as it is now the Heinous episode seemed mostly to remind the audience she's still out there.

We'll probably get some lore stuff related to her down the line. How she's connected to the Butterflys, her monster fetish, etc. Maybe she's Eclipsa's descendant.

I don't think there was any particular need for monsters to guard the temple as the MHC's raid was pretty much a non-issue, but more than that I think ultimately Toffee doesn't care much about those monsters' loyalty, see Ludo's army. Their purpose ended after Ludo left his original hideout.

The main thing I wanted to get across was that all of these seem set up to continue, from my perspective pretty obviously, and my main issue with them would be whether they're satisfactorily paid off. It seems you think they weren't handled well in the first place, which is fine, but going by the progression last season I think they know what they're doing plotwise-- it's how they do it I'm worried about.

Her connection with monsters hadn't been shown to that extent before, and so dropping all that information on us then would feel rushed at that point (Rasticore at first could've just been seen as some random guy she hired, which is a little different than her kissing him in his next appearance). Her thing for monsters needs to be established before we can get into her backstory that probably relates to that.

I think that latter point specifically is the crux of why it feels like a lot of setup so far: they're implying stuff happening so that when they actually pay it off-- who Heinous is related to, the purpose of the corn, etc.-- it won't feel like it totally came out of nowhere.

Some mystery also leaves more room for fan speculation, which I think might be the main reason behind these writing decisions. Don't see that as a problem either, since now the next premiere itself seems like it will answer certain things being speculated about.

Maybe even S3 in its entirety will, as eventually we'll reach a point where we'll know as much about the situation as the majority of characters. It seems like we're getting to the time of answers being revealed.

I don't think Marco's feelings ever got to be that strong, or even strong enough to be called a real crush, but at the same time BMB is the first and only time he sees Star as a girl, someone who could at least be a romantic option. He probably told himself he was just looking out for his friend when he went to save her from the "Moon of Lovers" but when he sees her again in that dress he loved so much, he doesn't try to warn her or take her home, he pulls her into a dance.
He clearly puts those feelings aside after she tells him she needs "a friend" and they're gone by Sleepover, but she's still a very special person in his life.
For someone with all of Marco's alleged insecurities and issues, holding hands with a girl or letting her watch you shower should be a big deal, but it's not a problem with Star because she's more than that to him.
