The term they use is 'adjunct'. The Venom and Black Cat movies are going to be like the first seasons of the Marvel Netflix shows in that they have some tangible references to the MCU and can potentially cross over but story wise are being treated as independent. This is way different from Homecoming, where Tony Stark boarders on deutertagonist status, with the Vulture's grudge primarily being with him and Spidey getting in the way of his revenge.
